So I have finally watched the film and I thought it was truly marvelous (excuse the pun) and it felt like a finale to the MCU. I pretty much enjoyed almost everything in the movie. Hawkeye was utilized a lot more in this film than in previous MCU movies and I enjoyed his character arc in this movie.
Hawkeye being a raging psychopath caught me off guard and he basically became the Punisher type character. I stilI felt that it worked as it gave the character some urgency and Whedon giving Hawkeye a family is probably the best thing to ever happened to this character

My fav scene is
Is when Steve Rogers lifted Mjölnir and it felt right that Steve was worthy to wield it as he's arguabaly the most selfless hero in the MCU

I actually liked Carol Danvers more in this than in her own movie and it seems like she will be the main player in the next phase. The 3rd art was basically fanservice which I didn't mind and the action sequences during the 3rd was great. The sendoffs to the key characters were solid imo

I will rate this 8.5/10.

Dude you need to chill out. We get it. You didn't like it. Don't be one of those people that craps on everyone else's enjoyment of something. You are not the be all end all of movie critics.
I wouldn't have said anything if other posters didn't start attacking me first. I was quoting people whose reviews and criticism I agreed with. Not once did I take a post from someone I disagreed with and debate with them. If anything, it's the ones who love the movie who are all butt hurt with the ones who are not holding this thing like it's the next coming of Christ.

My friends were like, he goes from killing half the world, to being a farmer cooking food in a shack?

Jim Starlin wrote all of the epic confrontations with Thanos in the comics including the Infinity Gauntlet. This was an adaptation of one of his original, story elements and that's the way the heroes find him after he uses the Gauntlet:

No. It's not near as divisive as TLJ. Endgame gave fans nearly everything we asked for..and more. The Last Jedi didn't give anything the fans wanted. It was made to be divisive to 'subvert expectations'.
Endgame only has a few lingering quirks but is an awesome movie!!

Eh, I'm a Star Wars fan and Last Jedi gave a lot to me as a fan.

Regardless, Endgame is a great movie. Its weird, I objectively think Infinity War is the better movie but I like Endgame a bit more. I truly hope the immediate harsh criticisms from people remains small - don't even want to deal with it like I had to with TLJ or even Dark Knight Rises.

You implied that those who like Endgame are simply sheep following along with everyone else. Apparently unaware that others don't hold the same opinion as you.

and was disappointed yet again that Fiege refused to let the TV characters join the theatrical characters in the finale battle

I thought that

it's like they simply cannot use those characters for legal reasons, they are not allowed to use the netflix heroes for a couple of years?

It was...fair. Rogers actions at the end really bothered me. Seemed out of keeping with the nature of his character. Presented with a similar choice at the end of Avengers Forever, for example, the character made a vastly different choice.

Just got back from seeing it. It was really well done and I enjoyed it a lot.

Have to see my 2nd showing to form a more concrete opinion about a couple things.

That's factually incorrect and you know it. Not to mention you did insult the intelligence levels of everyone who enjoyed this movie.

Endgame was a massive disappointment for me.

Long story short:
it's a messy time travel story with unclear rules and a bizarrely inconsistent tone. It spends far too much time on callbacks to previous films and doesn't really have that many great lines/moments of its own.

The action isn't in the same league as Infinity War (or Civil War, Ragnarok, GotG 2 etc):
Most of the film's very light on action. We get the original Thanos being curbstomped in a matter of seconds and a weird Cap vs Cap fight. The big final battle had some cool spectacle but it was too overcrowded and CGI heavy for my taste.

And then there's how individual characters get treated.
  • Thor was absolutely butchered by this film. His arc from Ragnarok/Infinity War goes out the window in favour of having him abandon what's left of his people to become an overweight, alcoholic slob who's the butt of half the film's jokes. And yet he's still somehow worthy? If they wanted to make him weaker and more vulnerable there were so many better ways they could've done that (make him lose hope and become unworthy, have him lose control of his lightning due to PTSD, have him lose Stormbreaker or a limb in the opening fight with Thanos etc)
  • The real Thanos is anti-climactically killed 20 minutes into the film, without even putting up a fight. The new Thanos from 2014 is a way more 2 dimensional villain who has no history with the heroes and now wants to wipe out all life.
  • Hulk doesn't get a single fight scene. He gets his moment undoing the snap but I would've loved to see an enraged Hulk give Thanos a serious challenge.
  • Spider-Man is still an in over his head rookie who has to be rescued by his Stark suit.
  • Iron Man had the best story arc but they could've made it way more interesting by forcing him to choose between his new family and undoing the snap
  • Cap got an okay but very predictable send off. His moment with Mjolnir was cool, although having him quit the Avengers by lying that he's just going to time travel to return the stones seems very out of character for him.
  • Most other characters were handled okay and maybe got a cool moment but barely get any development.

I'm also still confused about all the timeline and lore issues.

  • The snap survivors are five years older than everyone that was brought back? The world itself is presumably still five years older and messed up by five years of disrepair?
  • The Ancient One was very clear that removing the Infinity Stones from her timeline would be catastrophic because they're fundamental to the universe. If so, why were there no consequences when Thanos destroyed all six?
  • If Mjolnir just helped Thor control and focus his lightning powers and was never his source of strength then how does Cap summon lightning when he wields it
  • We're told that MCU time travel creates alternate timelines. Thanks to the Avengers there's now an alternate timeline where Hydra think Cap's joined them and Loki's alive and has the space stone. There's also another alternate timeline where Thanos and his army went missing in 2014 and Peter Quill was KO'd by War Machine and left for dead before he found the power stone.
  • Cap visited both of the above alternate timelines and returned the soul stone to Red Skull, left the power stone for Ronan, put the Reality Stone back inside Jane Foster etc?
  • Cap somehow broke the rules of MCU time travel (see above) and went back to live a full life with Peggy in the main MCU timeline. Does this retcon previous films? Or did he live under the radar and Peggy's dementia/"Steve you're alive, it's been so long" scene in Winter Soldier was some kind of act?
  • Nerd Hulk decided not to resurrect Vision, Heimdall, Quicksilver etc for some reason?
  • Were all the people who died indirectly because of the snap (in plane crashes, on operating tables etc) brought back too or did they stay dead?
  • Why did Doctor Strange think there was no other way? Now we've seen the whole thing play out it just seems illogical. We never get an answer to why Strange doesn't just prevent Star Lord from screwing things up on Titan or use his portals to go tell Thor to go for the head.
  • Previous films repeatedly told us it takes immensely powerful beings to wield the Infinity Stones and even this film has Hulk and Thor argue over who'll take the risk and Hawkeye, Panther etc running round with the completed gauntlet presumably because they can't wield it. But suddenly Iron Man can snap away Thanos entire army and live long enough to say goodbye to Rhodey/Spidey/Pepper?

I wish I was one of the fans that loved Endgame but I'm not.

So basically you made the same mistake as with TLJ. Dreamed up the movie in your head and when it wasn't like that, you were disappointed for selfish reasons.

Every time I think I can go on the web and not have it confirmed that people are morons, they prove me wrong.

Waaaah! Why didn't they read my mind and make the movie I wanted? Everyone who disagrees with me is stupid!

I'm not saying it's bad to dislike this movie. But I'm going to need to see some valid reasons which this is not.

Well I tend to separate which film I think is a better film to which film I prefer ,so its not weird. That's why while I think EG is among the best MCU, I can't say its my favorite MCU film.

I really don't see their being a super harsh critiques of this film, nor anywhere near divisive and polarizing as TLJ , MOS , or BvS. I still consider the divides over TDKR to be pretty tame compared to today's standards of fandom.

What could happen, however ,is a divide between fanboys who love the film, and those who like it alot. It then becomes petty because they're basically two sides on the same spectrum and in agreement about alot ,but if its not 100 percent agreement, then there's an issue.

A more than worthy followup to Infinity War. I am a very happy fan, and I'm so happy that this saga of the MCU ended on such a high note.

If the MCU becomes straight-up garbage from here on out, I won't even be mad. I got my complete Infinity Saga, and it may very well be my favorite film franchise of all time.

We're simply not going to get something like this again for a very long time. Not even from the MCU. What Kevin Feige has accomplished over the past 11 years is historic.

If Infinity War was the MCU's Empire Strikes Back, then Endgame is the MCU's Return of the Jedi, Return of the King, and Back to the Future II. I mean all of that as a good thing.

I can see some character choices dividing some fans, especially Thor's. Personally, I thought his character arc made sense. He is ashamed of himself for failing at the end of Infinity War; he's completely been demoralized and is ridden with guilt and trauma because of it. He cast himself out as unworthy. I see no problem with seeing our favorite characters at such a low point, especially when he becomes a hero in the end all over again.

I shall call him Thor B. Odinson. lol.

I also don't mind Thor going with the Guardians and letting Valkyrie rule New Asguard. He wasn't there for his people for 5 years; abandoned his title, really (and he abandoned them for legitimate reasons, IMO). Why become king when they've had a leader already for five years? Plus, Thor doesn't want to be king, and he had expressed so in multiple MCU movies. He wants to be a superhero. To me, that doesn't mean he's leaving his people hanging out to dry; he's just set to do what he thinks he's best suited for.

Within the context of MCU's Thor, the decisions made in Endgame made total sense to me. I can see how comic book purists aren't too thrilled with the MCU Thor, though.

Oh, it will probably turn into what everything else turns into these days. There will be a certain percentage of vocal people who lambast anyone who does not see the world exactly as they do. :cwink:

I love it. Not going to write a full on review but I'll just say that it's instantly already my 2nd favorite MCU film behind the first Avengers film and is my third favorite cbm of all time behind Batman(1989)and The Avengers

I loved Endgame on my first viewing and just got out of my 2nd viewing and was able to take in so much more even with the crowd being louder than the first. I simply love this movie and can't wait to see it a few more times. They really went out on a high note. The 3 hours just flies by, even moreso on the 2nd viewing.

I've re-watched certain key scenes on YouTube a few times, read what people are saying and I feel like pointing out a certain part of one particular scene which is unfortunately getting overlooked and not getting as much recognition as it probably should. It's also one of my favorite moments in the movie.

When the first portal opens and Black Panther, Shuri and Okoye step on the battlefield, there is a brief part where Cap looks at Black Panther with tremendous relief. But what makes that scene one of my favorites in the movie is the moment right after that when Black Panther looks back at Cap and just lightly nods. 2 seconds, but it said so much (at least in my mind). That nod to Cap was like 'You guys did it. Now let us help you and handle it from here'..

I just wanted to point that tiny bit out because I understand why it's getting overlooked, but hopefully, people recognize the moment as it really deserves a recognition in my opinion. It's really unbelievable to me how this movie absolutely 200% knocked it out of the park on some scenes, but also ridiculously messed it up on other scenes. It's as if two different sets of people worked on the movie and then put it all together.

The first hour of the movie is probably gonna drag in the future. But those lost two are just so good. My Amy Pond has come so far.

I'm just gonna spoiler tag all of it

This is the first time I cried during MCU movie. I had to bite my lip not to straight up go into full WHY GOD WHY hysterics. That was so ballsy and unexpected, everyone thought Cap was the one to go.

The film had so much heart and so many emotional moments but the most amazing thing is the amount of callbacks that feel so effortless - on your left, BP remembering Clint's name etc. it felt like huge "thank you" to fans for watching all the movies leading up to it. The gang going back and revisiting the previous events was so much fun and it's incredible how many actors appeared here

I don't understand people's problems with the movie. Thor's depression was natural and inevitable since he always had a goal and here he was without one knowing that he cannot do anything to help. Hemsworth was the highlight - he was going from comedy to drama so effortlessly and he gave the audience so many laughs - I almost died when he was explaining the whole eather situation and Paul Rudd's reaction, listening to him and being all giddy while Rocket was facepalming was HILARIOUS. Also loved "Lebowski" comment from Tony

And I love the beard. That is a hot beard

The girl power scene was awesome and I cannot believe men have the audacity to complain - 22 of these movies were led by men and you cannot handle a minute long scene just for us ladies? Come on.

The time travel thing is a bit confusing but I don't understand why people are angry about Cap's ending. The man fought so hard and he never had a life. He deserves one. That was a lovely ending for him.

Not only did they manage to tie everything together but every major character got such lovely moments - Tony, Cap, Thor, Clint, Natasha - they all got big emotional scenes. I am not a fan of Hulk but I really liked what they did with him here, the taco moment was adorable.

Overall it's my 10/10 for MCU movie. It had it all and it's amazing they pulled this off. What a crowd pleasing event, I'm so glad I got to experience it

I've heard some complaints about that first act being a "little too slow."

I couldn't disagree more with these sentiments. That first act makes you feel the weight of the events from the previous movie. It's emotionally engaging to me.

This movie may have been 3 hours, but it was some of the quickest 3 hours I've ever experienced. I had zero issues with the pacing of this movie. I don't think the audience I was with in the theater had any issues, either ... Everyone was fully engaged throughout the entire movie.

Ahem...

I believe we were guaranteed a 10/10 rating from you if that thing you wanted to happen happened, and that definitely happened, so yeah, pay up.

;)

@harlequinade this or Aquaman? ;)

I loved this movie but I actually get that they made some bold creative choices that are definitely going to rub some people the wrong way.
