Its weird how this movie is a great finale but yet a slight disappointment in my eyes. Maybe coming off infinity war is unfair.

First hour is awesome and felt like the russos/markus/mcfeely.

Second hour with felt very “marvely” which is a lot of humour and not much else.

Third hour is phenomenal.

But when i think about infinity war.....its all awesome. Winter soldier is all awesome. Age of ultron is also all awesome imo. I think this one is 4th right above civil war. But i think civil war might be better.

Hopefully when I watch it more and more it will climb up higher. Seen it twice and there are a lot of things i dont like and a lot of things i love.

For people that can look past brand loyalty, there's lots to chew on here. I know... Ya'll can't conceive of anything that doesn't say these products are a totally unalloyed good thing as some kind of personal attack. Still... Keep an open mind.

The Avengers Just Took Over Our World. We Need to Talk.

Also understand that I adored this movie. So I'm not trolling.
AO Scott and Manohla Dargis are just so insufferable with their pretentiousness. The only one who seemingly gets the appeal of these films and doesn't seem condescending is Buchanan.

I watched the movie second time (IMAX 3D- not sure I like it) and the hype was smaller (all the twists were already in the bag). Loopholes in the plot more obvious. The comedy - still OK (Rocket :-)) but part too forced (
Thor - this part with him being drunk and fat should be much shorter. It was fun when revealed and once when discussing the content of his vains
). Still touching (I realised that I got some dialogues wrong!) though and the last hour is still epic as hell. I could now concentrate on the visuals and
Caps final fight
was extreme. He got the best parts for sure.

Funny thing about watching in IMAX - I got sometimes the feeling I am looking at giant "live" Lego world (especially with shots over New York or
Hulk travel to New Asgard
).

On second viewing, the movie still flies by for me. I liked it better in IMAX 2D than UltraAVX 3D(obviously). The crowd wasn't nearly as hype, still some gasps and ahhhhs for
Steve Rogers is worthy!
I think it was a mix of people like me (repeat viewers) and casuals who were finally getting to see the movie. Theatre was packed all the way up to the front for the Friday 10:30PM viewing.
my pure anecdote, but the crowd didn't laugh much except for the Rocket bits and most of the Thor humour, especially his piece with the (A)GotG at the end.

There are clear markers:
First hour: Avenging the Fallen, dealing with the aftermath of a post-decimation world. Second hour: the Time-Heist. Last 45 minutes: the grand finale

Having watched and mentally overanalyzed the movie and knowing what to expect, the movie didn't drag at all. If I checked my watch it was to time the markers and start my final hour "now I can finish my beer" time check.

It feels like a different movie than Infinity War, and they view great back to back. The action is front-loaded with IW, and leads to a nice 1 hourish segue where we setup the Endgame. But the first hour/90 minutes of Endgame is definitely more "mellow", starting melancholy and building to the "grand adventure" that the Russos/M+M promised us. Each part for me worked now that I've seen it. I really liked the character interactions and I feel the directors/writers nailed it.

I still loved the Thor journey with the guess that it was left open ended intentionally; hopefully he completes this portion of his arc in Thor 4/GotG 3. I theorize they wanted to remove one of the most powerful Avengers to build up the drama at the end. This version of Thor was no match for Thanos, with or without Stormbreaker/Mjolnir, and had no business wielding the gauntlet, either.

Looking forward to round three next weekend

Saw this today and for me it was a bit underwhelming. Even without knowing things ahead of time, it moved on a very predictable path. No big wow moments for me. Not that it was bad by any means and it didn't drag, but I still think Infinity War was better because it still had surprises for me. I'll buy it for sure, but won't pay for the theater again.

Just finished watching the movie for my 2nd viewing and yeah it's still awesome to me! Even better the 2nd time

Saw it again today in a full theater with a great audience. What a great film to see in a theater. Truly awesome experiences.

AO Scott means I don't read it. I've read his condescending elitist crap before. I'm good liking what I like, thanks.

Endgames Portal Scene still gives me tremendous chills, just by thinking about it.

So I had my 2nd viewing at the weekend there, went with my brother (was his 1st viewing).

Enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Probably more actually since I had more time to digest snippets of dialogue, easter eggs and various other things that may have escaped me first time round. The last hour is just epic.

One thing I noticed 2nd time round, and it may be nothing ..........

At the end of the film, when Cap is preparing to go back in time and return the Infinity stones, there is a slightly lingering shot of Mjolnir resting on the launch pad. I didn't really notice it first time but second time round I found it curious. I saw his use of Mjolnir as a means to an end, he simply borrowed it from Thor to give himself the upper hand in the battle against Thanos, and would then return it. I didn't think there was any expectation from anyone that Cap would keep Mjolnir indefinitely - at least not on my part. Is it only me who thinks that?

Thus I'm curious if Mjolnir's presence there is a deliberate move by the writers, and he will somehow use its power in the past for some purpose. And perhaps this will be explored in another story.

I think they just wanted to make sure the audience knew that it would be going back and no longer available for Thor.

He took it for the same reason he was taking the stones back, to return it to the branched timeline that it was taken from (because, otherwise, the Thor that exists in that alternate 2013 timeline is without his primary weapon)

I really don't know what most critics are thinking, this movie is so-so.
The time travel aspect is convoluted, ridiculous and a cop out.
3/10

So, how exactly *would* you suggest that the movie have the Avengers save the world?

Saw it for a third time. First time I went through it. Second time I understand it better...I guess. Third viewing...

Tony/IM arc, one of the few great things about the film. The academy needs to honor Rdj's performance, it reminded me a lot of Hugh Jackman's Logan. He was solid and too real.

Hawkeye/vigilante. I loved how it gave him layers and at the same time, he still should have been the one to sacrifice himself in the end. His daughter would have picked up the mantel just fine on her own to honor his legacy.

Thor/The Dude Lebowski. I didn't completely hate it. I love Hemsworth's performance. Very versatile. He showed range that I barely saw in the almost overtly seriousness of his character, minus IW and Ragnarok, was often saturated in. That being said, I think they made him a bit over-the-top, it's like telling the same joke in different ways. Thor wasn't this pathetic.

Cap "must move forward not back" Rogers. Probably the worst conclusion I've seen. It just gets so sad how much they water down his importance to the point of nothingness. Aside from very cool moments, here and there, Cap deserved to move on and stop living so much in the past, practice what he preaches. I hate the fan service for his relationship with Peggy. Having him stay in the past, despite it being his time, negates all the progression his character has had leading up to this film. They wrote him as a coward, Cap would never choose personal gain over what's right. Giving the shield to Sam over Bucky, just no. An insult to Bucky and Cap's friendship and bond.

Scott "time heist" Ant-Man. I really loved seeing more of his interactions with the team. If I could find a flaw in IW, it was this. Scott should have been utilized with the avengers. I get why he wasn't but still, his scenes were amusing. Also, Paul Rudd is a great dramatic actor as well as on point with the comedy. His reunion with his daughter was very heartwarming.

Present/Past Nebula/Past Gamora. I liked seeing these two team up the way I wanted them to in IW, before what happened to Gamora in Vormir. Present Nebula killing off her past, villainous self was symbolic. I wish Gamora and Nebula had given out some direct hits on Thanos though.

Professor "No smash" Ruffalohulk. I did like this idea at first. The writers were going to build something great for Bruce in Ragnarok but it felt like the story they had was scrapped. Hulk wasn't Hulk. Sure he concocted the formula to combine the best of both entities, but he still wasn't Hulk. More Mark/Bruce than Hulk. We showed up for Hulk, yes we wanted Hulk. We did not get the Hulk.

Natasha's sacrifice. Why oh why did they think it was a good idea to kill Natasha off like this? So because she has no one and nothing, she must die? She is the strongest developed character with a complex history to explore and not just in prequels. And no funeral or memorial service for her? No way to honor what she did in any way? Just seems like the writers didn't care that much.

The final battle scene was epic and well worth the hype. It almost makes up for the plot holes the writers could have solved through a new revision but chose not to.

I give it a 7/10, I moved it up from my previous rating because the performances were amazing, the CGI was on point, the action slayed and it was extremely fun overall.

Specifics please I'll be waiting with bated breath

Saw it a second time over weekend. It got slightly better in some aspects like the final battle and the 2nd act especially Thors and Widows/Hawkeyes journey. But I just hated even more than 1st viewing what they did to Hulk and Thor in general.

Hulk was watered down way too much and resulted in being a comedy punchline. Thats not the Hulk I want to see, I want the rage and intensity he is known for.

Thors constant fat jokes and off putting attitude was a mess. I really liked his visit to Asgard to see his mother but the last line Frigga says, Eat a salad wrecks the heart to heart convo they had prior to that. Too many uneccesary jokes dotted throughout

Good luck with that.

Really it comes down to confusion on their part. Far too many times have I seen people use "convoluted" as a criticism for movies that weren't that hard to understand.

On another note, I have zero problems with Professor Hulk. It was a nice change from the one note Hulk we've seen numerous times in the past. I enjoy watching Hulk SMASH but there's nothing new about it after awhile. Professor Hulk was a nice grab from the comics and I enjoyed seeing that in a live action movie for the first time.

The real complaint should be about how silly and lame Banner was in a lot of scenes in Infinity War. As some have said it was Ruffalo being Ruffalo.

Given the 2 choices, its HULK SMASH everytime, even if weve seen it before (which we havent really since AoU). I wont ever tire of seeing Bruce transform into an intense rage-filled killing machine, smashing enemies left and right. Thats what he is designed for, he is a force of nature and the way they held him back is very unsatisfying, imo.

We saw old school Hulk in both RAGNAROK and at the start of IW.
