The Force Awakens Episode VII Cast Announced(4/29/2014)

I think his character has not (yet) interacted with Mark so much (due to the rumored storyline)

What is it like working within the secrecy surrounding "Star Wars"?
[Oscar Isaac]: You can’t say anything. You can’t say ****. But it’s fine! I don’t know why people are so obsessed with finding out stuff before the movie comes out. It’s so much more fun to just go. I mean, I don’t do that. I don’t go looking for stuff that I’m interested in, you know, to try and find out pictures and what the movie’s about. It’s so much more fun to be surprised.

Is there anything you are excited about that won't reveal anything about your mysterious, yet-to-be-announced character?
[Oscar Isaac]: There’s not anything that I can say about the character, but I can say that I’m most excited and, I know this seems nerdy, but I love the fact that J.J. Abrams is shooting it on film. And that’s not just from an aesthetic standpoint -- it really does matter -- but it’s about how a movie is filmed and the set, it changes it. It changes so many things. I mean, I’ve had to do things over again because there was a hair in the gate, which is so old school, but it just feels better, and movies are all about feeling, so I think that’s something that I’m so very excited about apart from the fact that it looks amazing, so textured and alive.

Vanity Fair - Adam Driver Is Not Ready to Become a Star Wars Action Figure (September 8, 2014)

TIFF 2014: Adam Driver and Corey Stoll explain what 'This Is Where I Leave You' has in common with 'Star Wars' and 'Ant-Man' (September 6, 2014)

......

“‘Star Wars’ is a big thing, ‘Ant-Man’ is a big thing, they're huge and the scales are bigger than the things we've worked on before,” Driver told reporters at the Shangri-La Hotel. “I can't speak for ‘Ant-Man,’ but I know for ‘Star Wars’ what JJ [Abrams] and Larry Kasdan have written - and the way they've decided to approach the project - is very much how you'd approach anything."

He continued: “From the very beginning it's all about story and character... Yes, it's ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...’ but at the same time there's those moments: It's about loss and friendship and those universal themes that made the original movies have such a long life and resonate. I think it's the same as [‘This is Where I Leave You’]: we're playing this moment, then the next moment, and hopefully at the end we'll have a movie."

Toronto Sun - TIFF 2014: Adam Driver and Corey Stoll talk 'This Is Where I Leave You' (September 6, 2014)

.......

So what about those big-budget movies? Does acting school prepare you for them?

“It totally prepares you,” Driver says. “Watching J.J. Abrams and (writer) Larry Kasdan, what they’ve written, from the very beginning, it’s all about story and character. There’s loss and friendship and universal themes.”

Hitfix - OSCAR ISAAC DOESN'T FEEL THE PRESSURE ON 'STAR WARS: EPISODE VII' OR A COENS FLICK

..........

Heads up everyone: Oscar Isaac's last day shooting "Star Wars: Episode VII" is this Friday, Sept. 26. The cast has another few weeks of filming, but Isaac is taking a well deserved four day vacation before moving on to his next project, David Simon's HBO mini-series "Show Me A Hero."

.............

As for "Star Wars," the film will no doubt change Isaac's life. He'll go from an actor you recognize from something to "the guy from 'Star Wars.'" That's a big life change for anyone, but Isaac reveals he's not feeling the pressure. It's no different from "Two Faces" or any other high profile projects he's worked on.

"I think that if I had any success in this field, which I have, I think it comes from a place that I’m able to find stillness within all the wildness of what’s happening," Isaac says. "So regardless of whether it’s the Coens or whether it’s 'Star Wars' or 'Robin Hood' when I did that or whatever, it could be I’m able just to focus on what I’m hired to do, which is inhabit the psyche of a character. And so those thoughts don’t really come into it very much as far as like what it means or how it will come across. Because once you start going there I don’t see how you can do the job of acting at all, because those things have nothing to do with each other."

Now, you might think, "But Isaac, you weren't even a little nervous even auditioning for a major role in a new 'Star Wars' franchise?" Again, Isaac says he's able to focus past it all.

Soresu!

I do wonder who Isaacs is playing. Looking back at the casting calls, is he the 30-something cynic Han Solo-type? If so, I wonder if he will be a lead, or if he's a one-off in SW7.

Imaginarium = Andy Serkis's motion capture company

Serkis said some months ago

“The Imaginarium is now involved in all of the performance capture on the Star Wars projects,” Serkis confirms, “and I’m playing a character in that.”

http://www.scifinow.co.uk/news/star-wars-7-exclusive-andy-serkis-talks-script-jj-abrams-more/

What’s coming up with Star Wars that you can say?

Serkis: Very, very little about Star Wars unfortunately... I mean I’d love to--I'd to fill you in on everything. I mean... I suppose what I can say is...I’m not... I’m not playing a main character, it’s more of a cameo role.

Ok...

Serkis: We're also playing an important part in Star Wars in that the performance capture company--The Imaginarium--that I started two years ago. We’re involved in the consultancy for the picture.

So there’ll be more of that as opposed to the straight forward stuff Lucas did in the last trilogy...

Serkis: ??? performance capture in it yep.

Weird that he would say his role is a cameo when he was at the script read-through. Perhaps that was just for publicity.

Vulture - 9 Actors Who Could Be Big Movie Stars Next Year
Kyle Buchanan

John Boyega
The 22-year-old Brit first impressed in 2011's scrappy sci-fi vehicle Attack the Block, but his next foray into that genre will be one of the biggest movies of all time: After meeting with just about every young actor in town, J.J. Abrams cast Boyega as the male lead in Star Wars: Episode VII. (And to judge from his frequent, giddy posts on social media, no one is more excited about the movie than Boyega himself.) Will he prove to be the next Harrison Ford, or take after Mark Hamill ... or, more likely, blaze a new career path all his own?

Daisy Ridley
No actor on this list is as poised for as stratospheric a transformation as Daisy Ridley. The young Brit was a complete unknown fresh out of school (with only a few bit TV parts to her name) when J.J. Abrams cast her as the protagonist in next year's most highly anticipated movie, Star Wars: Episode VII. Major agencies started fighting over Ridley immediately (she signed with UTA, then was lured over to CAA two months later), but when the rest of the world is introduced to her next winter in the most significant studio debut in ages, what's in store?

Actor's Calendar: 'Girls,' 'Star Wars,' Taking Theater To The Military

.......

Adam Driver starred in Tracks, This Is Where I Leave You and What If — all out this year. He says there are surprising similarities between two of his other biggest roles, on HBO's Girls and in the new Star Wars film. "If you think about breaking it down into moments ... and making them make sense as much as possible, it's actually not that far off," he says.

Talks about Star Wars at the end of the interview (there's a little more in the audio than in the text)

May the force be with her: Christina Chong on why joining Star Wars has been such an incredible adventure

Few things can cause a hush to fall over a room like admitting you did not watch Star Wars as a child, but coming from Christina Chong it is quite a revelation. For the actress is about to star in the latest film, Episode VII. Don’t worry — she has caught up now. “My boyfriend is a huge Star Wars fan and kept saying I needed to watch it. I was busy doing my thing but got round to watching when I knew I was auditioning. I thought I was going to be watching this dated film but it’s brilliant and timeless. I absolutely loved it.”

..........

Those in charge of the Star Wars publicity juggernaut have told Chong she has to be careful and not divulge too much about her role until the hotly awaited film is out next year but she will be working with just about everyone, from Harrison Ford to Carrie Fisher and fellow Londoner Daisy Ridley. “Unfortunately, all I can say is it was incredible to be involved. It is probably the biggest film in cinema history and to be part of that is amazing. People are very fond of it.” Her nieces and nephews are big fans of the originals and do the Chewbacca voice — although Chong won’t.

Glass Magazine - Written in the stars
November 17, 2014

How does it feel to become a part of a cinematic legacy [Star Wars] that dates back to 1977 and comes after 6 equally highly-anticipated films?
Considering it’s probably one of, if not the most successful movie franchises in cinematic history, when I realised that I was going to be a part of it, it was just all too incredible.

The latest addition episode VII isn’t set to hit theatres until this time next year, so how does it feel to know the world will be waiting with bated breath until they can see it?
Quite scary actually, but it’s nice to have that year to build all the excitement and anticipation.

We realise that you will have to remain strictly tight-lipped about anything related to the film, however, could you possibly give us some kind of clue as to what will be in store for us!?
I’d love to, believe me, but I am just not allowed yet.

Could you at least give us a few hints about some of the processes you went through / are going through for the production?
My experience, in one word … astounding.

Getting to the point, would you say this your highest career high so far?
Most definitely!

Meet the Star Wars' actress who studied in Glasgow - and fell in love with the city
November 7, 2014

SHE was plucked from thousands of hopefuls for a part in the new Star Wars film but young American actress Crystal Clarke says her heart belongs to Glasgow.

.......

She cannot reveal the details of her part or who she filmed with at Pinewood Studios.

"I don't know if I can even say when the filming was done, to be honest," she laughs.

She admits she wasn't a Star Wars fan when she was younger, growing up in an immigrant family in north New Jersey.

"My family are West Indian - I'm first generation American - so it really wasn't part of our culture, I didn't know a thing about it," she says. "I saw a Star Wars film in my first year at the Royal Conservatoire and along with two other friends we ended up watching all of the Star Wars films

Another James McA playing Xavier eh?

Someone being cast as a Padawan suggests Jedi are being trained somewhere. Ooh it makes me wonder...

Here's my theory: These Jedi are found one by one by Han and the main characters as clues to where Luke has been. In his wake he's left a trail of Jedi he's trained.

NY Daily New - ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ actor Andy Serkis voices surprise at fan reaction to trailer

“(Director J.J. Abrams) said to me, ‘Andy, just so you know you’re all over the trailer, your voice is all over the trailer,” says Serkis, “And I went, ‘Oh, that’s great, that’s fantastic,’ but I had no idea it was going to cause such consternation and intrigue.”

Serkis shows a Jedi master’s skill at deflecting potential spoiler questions about his role in movie that doesn’t hit our galaxy until Dec. 18, 2015 — but did tease that the raspy voice was very much “emotionally rooted” in his top-secret character.

That must be a strange sentence to say 'My first acting job was Star Wars?'

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] It is really strange, but it’s also fantastic. I’d always done theater, and his was my first screen experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to introduce me to the world of screen acting.

How did Star Wars happen?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I auditioned along with thousands of other people. I think it was a worldwide audition process, and it just took off from there, step by step. I’m not allowed to say a lot, unfortunately. But, I think the great thing about J.J. is that he really hunts for talent. It’s not just about the name or what you’ve done. If you look at a lot of the people he did end up casting, many of them haven't done much before, and I think that’s really exciting — that he gives people that kind of opportunity.

What was your mindset like when you went out for the audition. Did you ever think you were going to get it?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I didn’t think I was going to get it. I just thought "Let’s have fun, let’s play, and let me make the most of my time here." I tried to make it an enjoyable process instead of a terrifying one, and I think that’s how I approach every audition. It’s an opportunity to show people what I love to do, and if it works out, fantastic, and if not, at least it’s more experience.

How did you react when you got the phone call saying that you got the part?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] It was an incredible feeling; just to be able to know that I was going to work with such incredible people, and that I was going to have the opportunity to be a part of such an epic story that’s been going for so many years. It was just an honor for me to be a part of that.

How many auditions did you have to go through before you got the part?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I’m not allowed to say that.

Exactly how shrouded in secrecy was the filming process?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I had to sign many, many contracts. It’s very, very secret. But, everyone who's working on it loves and respects the franchise so much, they all want to keep it a secret. We wanted to hold it tight, so it wasn’t hard for anyone. It wasn’t a forced thing; it's our little child which we’re going to present to the world in a year.

How familiar were you with the Star Wars universe?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I grew up watching them and I’ve always been fascinated about how they use the epic nature of the story — but also make it really personal. It has tender relationships, and it’s funny and quirky. I feel it’s really well-rounded and that’s why it’s so popular; it’s so accessible for so many generations and backgrounds. Even though it’s such a surreal story, it feels very true. All the relationships are very true. It breaks down the age old story of good versus evil in a very accessible manner.

Did the huge reaction to the trailer blow you away?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] It was amazing! It’s fantastic to see so many people still so engaged and so thrilled. It’s so nice to be a part of something that can bring so many people such excitement and such happiness.

Do you think you're ready for what's coming in a year?

[Maisie Richardson-Sellers:] I can’t even imagine what it will be like — especially because this is my first experience. I’ve never been involved in the glitz and glamour of it, so I just plan on taking what comes and rolling with it.

The Guardian - Domhnall Gleeson: ‘I’m done talking about Star Wars’

...

Star Wars? He squirms as my eyes light up, and I can’t help myself.

“Domhnall, are you Luke Skywalker’s son?”

“Ah, I can’t talk about it.”

“Are you Boba Fett’s son?”

“Look, that’s not for me to say.”

“Anything to do with Jar Jar Binks?”

“I can do the voice…” he replies laughing. And, lo, he can. “Whatever that tells you! Jar Jar Junior!”

...

Wouldn’t that also make Gleeson also the obvious choice to play a role like, say, Kylo Ren, the hooded Jedi with the cruciform lightsaber in Star Wars? “I’ve literally no idea,” Garland demurs, tactfully. “When all that stuff was going down, I absolutely made sure I wasn’t asking questions of him or Oscar that would out them on the spot. They’ve had to sign such heavy NDAs [non-disclosure agreements], they’re dangerous in career terms if you transgress them.”

I decide that a more cunning route of questioning is required. So, as is the norm with blockbuster franchises, is Gleeson signed up for three movies?

“I don’t think we’re even allowed to talk about that!” wails the actor, squirming again. “Because if I say ‘no’, they’re like, ‘Oh right, you die.’ And if it’s ‘yes’, well, you live. And if say I’ve signed up for nine, they’re like, ‘Well, you must be a lead…’ I don’t how it works! That’s why [when] we finished filming I just hit the switch. I was like, ‘I’m done talking about this.’”

Gleeson can, however, gush effusively about JJ Abrams and the privilege of being on set with him. “He is incredible,” he says. “There was always a sense on the film of, like, ‘Let nobody forget that we are making Star Wars. We owe our best in every moment for the people [for whom] Star Wars is their whole life.’ There is so much love.”
