Hawkeye Episodes 1 and 2 (Spoiler Discussion)

Lol Clint's reaction to Ant-Man being in the musical when he wasn't even apart of the Battle of New York was hilarious.

I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. It's the surprise Xmas gift I didn't even know I needed or wanted.

I always found MCU Clint likable and I'm glad they're giving him more to do. Love his interactions with the civilians and the "I'm getting too old for this" schtick.

But that lovely Hailee Steinfeld. She's really bringing it and I'm loving the energy she's putting into Kate Bishop. Also really love the subtle father/daughter dynamic that's starting between Clint and Kate.

Can't wait for episode 3.

It’s ok so far. Nothing groundbreaking, which I don’t think anyone expected. It’s definitely not appointment viewing like WV was.

They are definitely oversaturing the market with all these shows that unless it’s something distinct and unique, it feels all the same. Like is Echo and a potential new Daredevil show going to feel like another Hawkeye show?

I found it funny though how Hawkeye is getting comped free meals and probably other stuff while in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Falcon couldn’t even get his sister a loan from the bank.

Why was it such a thing to find an albi for where Kate was when her apartment burned?

She was among the victims of a terrorist style attack on a building that was all over the news. Her family was there. That is a solid alibi. It's LESS believable that she left in the chaos and was followed by some gang that firebombed her apartment.

The first thing that caught my attention was that Kate's dad was killed and her mom had to raise her alone. This theme of killing off dads and forcing women to raise their kids by themselves has gotten real old real fast. They could literally switch out the mom and dad's roles and nothing would change story wise.

I also really like Clint. His whole thing with the live action roleplay was hilarious. Guy just wants to go home for Christmas and live a quiet life.

I'm curious to see where this goes but I'm also not invested in Kate as an Avenger.

Loving it. I was worried about how MCU Clint would mesh with the extremely Fraction-inspired storyline, but it's really working. Hailee is perfect as Kate, as expected. Tony Dalton is fun. And the Echo reveal was bad***. As excited as I am for more of Pugh as Yelena, I am a bit worried that with everything else going on, she's going to muddle the story. I don't want this to end up like F&WS where they try to fit 10 episodes worth of storyline into 6 hours and it all gets confused.

Also, I definitely yelled "BROOOOOOOO!" the first time the Tracksuit Mafia showed up and I was not disappointed. They may be the most accurately adapted villain the MCU has ever done :funny:

I like to imagine that Luis spent the 5 Years of the Blip telling everyone that Ant-man was totally there fighting in the Battle of New York and all the other Avengers were too busy or disinterested to correct the record so now it's just publicly accepted.

LOL I wonder how much of that information is classified and how much the public is aware of. Like, do they know that the Avengers went back in time? It's a pretty essential part of explaining how they brought everyone back. If that's the case and they know mostly everything then maybe they do consider Ant-Man to be part of the Battle of New York. Who knows?

They altered backstories for Kate. In the comics, her mother was the one that died, and her father was a crime boss.

Thus far, I found the first two episodes underwhelming. Tracksuit Mafia are not compelling bad guys.

Hailee Steinfeld is my favorite part of the show. I enjoy her personality.

Still don't like Clint Barton. Not to mention, he's a pretty terrible father. No one even knows he's Ronin. I don't get why the suit is so important to him he needed to track it down himself and send his kids back home by themselves.

So awesome. This couldn’t have been any better.

I hope they end every episode with that creepy song (Christmas Island from Depeche Mode)

I think he doesn’t want someone wearing it and getting killed because they think it’s the real Ronin.

That second episode cliffhanger was also dumb. I know that’s supposed to be Echo, but honestly most casual viewers won’t. I’m honestly surprised they’ve already announced a show for her already when the actress could be terrible for all we know.

The missus seems to know the dealio. A while back Krypton Inc. posted a theory about Mrs. Barton that seems plausible given her and Clint's phone call.

As for the suit, I have no idea why its so important to him. Maybe its got a vibranium weave? But I wouldn't say Clint is a bad pappa for having his three kids, two of whom are adults, fly back to Mizzou without him. A couple of nights in a suite at a posh midtown hotel a week before Christmas plus meals, airfare and 4 tickets to Rogers might have set him back about 10 grand. That's solid parenting!

Yeah these were his kids in 2015.

They're not adults.

I wonder what's so special about the watch. Someone is speculating that it's a stark gauntlet.

That was my first guess. No idea where it went though unless Pizza Dog ate it.

probably villains taking advantage of Iron Man's death, by going for his tech, we have seen this in past MCU movies, like Spider-Man Far From Home

It is possible that Wanda and Loki opening the multiverse made the citizens remember that Ant-Man was in the Battle Of New York for the musical.
I imagine there'd also be plenty of people who'd say "Of course he was there, you just couldn't see him because he was tiny!"

Maybe it’s special for Maya.
Maybe
Kingpin
Made her believe that Ronin killed her father.
Maybe Ronin accidentally really killed her father.

Awwww! They grow up so fast!

They maybe shoulda recast if they were planning to blip em for five years. But the two oldest Barton kids certainly looked old enough to navigate their way around an airport without adult supervision, even if they are only around 16 and 14 canonically. Children of divorce often have to learn how to do that at a very young age to comply with custody agreements

That's what I love about this, Street Level Marvel.

Though its only very technically street level, in that so far the show has done quite a good job portraying Clint Barton as being above this weight class. *ahem* He's an Avenger who is slumming, because he *really* doesn't want to deal with this, he just wants to clean this stuff up and get back to Christmas with his family, damnit.

As an aside, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne is so hilariously sleezy and suspicious that I kind of want it to turn out that he's *not* the villain. Oh, he's scummy and lying about stuff and all, but he's not the primary instigator of the plot, and didn't kill his uncle. He's just a slimy mercenary soldier of fortune type with the hots for Eleanor Bishop. Who is actually kind of my suspect for having killed Duquesne the Elder.

I wouldn't be surprised if Eleanor used the chaos surrounding the invasion to off Papa Bishop as well.

Dalton's great. I hope Elaine drops by to whisk him away at some point in the series.

Rationally speaking, yes. The thing is, for all that Kate is legitimately talented, she's never had to lie to police out of the blue before. She did a bad job of it because she's inexperienced.
