Its supposed be with Superman Returns.

The kid was only fifteen when he wrote the Eragon. The books arent that great but they are fun for what they are.

Yeah?

Cool, SR has Spidey 3 and Eragon's teasers.

I liked book, it wasn't bad.

The fact that this world is based on something a 15 year old wrote may in fact give it some credibility issues. But if Hollywood saw something there, there could be merit. I guess I should read the books and see if the author does indeed have the chops you all claim he does.

In the books they are. Apparently not in the movie.

They aren't like Orcs in the book.
They are more like extreme barbarians to me.

I remember they been described as hairy/furry beasts with red (or something "not normal" eye color)? Or am I thinking some other species?

Well, look at what Rowling wrote, and she's an adult

It has cool actors, and dragons
I doubt we're getting a sequel to the very underrated (IMO) Reign of Fire, so this will have to do.

We have recently received an update from 'Joel' for the upcoming film Eragon. Remember the teaser trailer that we had been anticipating for release with Superman Returns? Well, it turns out that Fox isn't quite ready to release it yet.

Eragon Budget

Here is the report available at Shurtugal:

It looks like Fox has had to push the Eragon trailer release date yet again, this time off of Superman Returns. Today, a reliable source close to the movie who wished to remain anonymous told us that Fox wants to move the trailer off of Superman Returns so that the special effects are further along when the trailer releases. Right now, the movie effects (Saphira, etc.) still have a long way to go. We have no information as to which movie they now anticipate the trailer will release on, but we'll update you as soon as we hear something!

I guess this alert shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The early trailer impressions claimed that the film looked good but there was little to no effects shots yet; at least, none that were shown. The only scene with Saphira has the dragon so high in the sky that it might as well be Superman up there.

We recently reported that the budget for Eragon will definitely pass the estimated number of $100 million (read here). Considering this is Fox's big chance at another epic, the increase in budget comes as great news.

Maybe Fox is holding off on the teaser trailer until they can get some of their higher budget effect shots into play?

Either way, don't expect to see the teaser trailer with Superman Returns.

Eragon comes to theatres on December 15th.

Just abit from C-Con...

ERAGON
I must confess to knowing very little about this. I read a little fantasy, but as a general rule I've never really been drawn to books about dragons (the Temeraire books by Naomi Novik have me reading, though). The panel had the young man playing Eragon, Edward Speleers, and showed a trailer. Not sure if the trailer is out there, but while I really want this movie to rock I can't shake a DUNGEONS & DRAGONS vibe from the visual style and the cinematography. Strangely enough, the only thing in the trailer I really liked was Jeremy Irons who didn't feel like the D&D movie, even though he was a part of it.
Tidbits from the panel:
- Eragon's dragon, Saphira, will be created tag-team style between ILM and Weta Digital. ILM's work on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2 was top notch and Weta's always ****in' great. This is the most exciting element of the film for me.
- The producers found Edward Speleers for the title role after months of shooting. It was almost too late. They were 2 days away from pulling the plug on the film when they found him in London.

Comic Con Report: Eragon!
Date: July 22, 2006

By: Mark Lagamayo
Source: Latino Review

Christopher Paolini's best-selling debut novel becomes the next blockbuster film for Fox 2000 Pictures, a division of Twentieth Century Fox. Accompanying the preview of the film was Elizabeth Gabler, the President of Fox 2000 Pictures and actor Edward Speleers who plays the title character. Moderating the Twentieth movie panel was Michael Broyte, a publicist for the company, who has been coming to Comic Con for the past 12 years. Fox 2000 Pictures acquired the rights to Eragon soon after it was self-published by Paolini's parents. Determined to bring the novel to life on the big screen, they began pre-production work that took them to five locations around the world. The real draw of the new film is, of course, the dragon Saphira, wonderfully rendered using the latest CGI technology from special effects houses, Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) and Peter Jackson's own special F/X house, Weta.

Considering the name recognition of the special effects houses being employed, the trailer shows every bit of the mastery and technical advancement of a true Hollywood blockbuster film. As the trailer begins, we are thrust into a world of magic and myth. Majestic mountains and boundless skies frame the introduction bringing an almost biblical scope that is reminiscent of the vistas seen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. That's where Tolkien's world ends and Paolini's adventure begins. The first chapter of the Inheritance trilogy features Saphira laying waste to ground forces with her sulfurous breath. In addition, we saw glimpses of John Malkovich as King Galbatorix he plies his nefarious plans against Eragon and the forces of good. "You are the next dragon rider," said Jeremy Irons who plays Brom, Eragon’s mentor as our hero takes that giant leap into legend. That’s what the film is to become from what the trailer has shown. Eragon premieres on December 15, 2006; not a moment too soon for readers of the novel and for fantasy fans alike.

Ms. Gabler thanked the packed hall at Comic Con for their thunderous applause right after the trailer. She then talked about the long hard search for the perfect actor to play the lead role of Eragon. The task took them all over the English-speaking world. Ms. Gabler remarked that they wanted to do justice to Chris Paolini's novel. The only way that could be accomplished was with the brilliant casting of a twenty-something English heartthrob by the name of Edward Speleers. At that point, the audience went wild when Mr. Speleers walked onto the stage and sat down with Michael and Elizabeth. It was Ed's first time visiting Comic-Con as well as the first time he has visited Southern California.

When asked about playing the role of Eragon, Ed commented on the how amazing he thought the book was and admired the heart of Chris's novel as well as became intrigued by the title character. He also related to the character on a personal level. He remarked on how Eragon's life paralleled his own experiences. He said he brought that experience to the forefront when playing the character. When asked how he felt about working with such great actors as John Malkovich and Jeremy Irons, he said that they were brilliant actors and they are and continue to be an inspiration to him as an actor. Ed is also an avid gamer and provides the voice in the upcoming video game for Eragon. he then talked about the challenges for him in the second film of the trilogy. For three weeks before principal photography of the first chapter, he trained in the gym and took lessons in horse riding and swordsmanship. However, Ed took it all in stride when he said that he enjoys training and working out. That's an important aspect, he confirmed, because all that training and experience in the first movie will serve him well in the second. Fans regaled him with applause with that comment. After principal photography is finished, he will vacation with his friends in Jamaica and take a well-deserved break from his hectic schedule. He is desperate to see the movie in December 2006 as are a multitude of fans around the world. Ed ended the panel by saying he hopes to continue doing more stories of the Eragon mythology.
