probably a useless thread, but since Harvey is being introduced in TDK, does it make sense to introduce the coin as well? it could prove usefull in Harvey's character development, as well as setting up Two-Face's eventual appearance in film 3. ideas?

(mods, feel free to merge this into the Harvey Dent thread if necessary)

It would be interesting to get a bit of a look of where it comes from in the movie version. maybe as rachel meets dent for the first time in his office, she sees it displayed on a mantle and asks about it. he says it is a reminder that unlike the coin, every story has two sides, and justice is a balance...that instead of shades of grey, it helps him to see the black and white.

niiice. I feel ashamed of myself as a Batfan to have completley forgot about the coin. Yeah, I think maybe a backstory of the coin (like in BTAS and Harvey's father) should be established. But no flipping till 3.

Yep, I def think the coin has to be in The Dark Knight. Maybe just a hint.

So, Dent never flipped his coin before he turned into Two-Face.

alright, since there's interest in this topic, here's my idea:

the coin is a gift, from Bruce to Harvey, after Harvey is appointed DA. in the dialogue, we find out that Harvey and Bruce became friends at Princeton, and that Harvey is an avid (albeit amateur) coin collector.

no matter what the story is, it would be a shame not to at least have a brief introduction....just a minute....kinda like the arrowhead for bruce and rachel

I rather the coin be something from his father, whom they briefly reference to established Dent's troubled childhood. Have him refer to it as "the only thing worth something my dad ever gave me". Give it some significance. Maybe he refers to it as his lucky coin and always takes it to trial. After his scarring (whenever it takes place), he should scratch one side of it and become compulsive with it.

In the old Batman cartoon from the 90s aren't Bruce & Dent already friends.

i'd like to see the coin pre Two-face, i don't care how they explain its relation to harvey.

It could be there...a good luck charm perhaps...I have one..old school silver dollar from the 1920's

I think they should do the scene in TLH.

Harvey is sitting in the basement by himself. Gilda is calling, his name, she sees him sitting in a chair scarring something. He says he went to see his Dad, saying he gave him something. Then he says, "I was so sure that Bruce Wayne was doing favors for the Falcone Family. But, a "jury of my peers" didn't agree with me. It's like they flipped a coin. Heads he wins; tails I lose. And Bruce Wayne. With all his money. His good family name. Goes back to high society. Leaving the rest of us to take care of what needs to be done..." Then we see the coin laying in his hand.

It would only be cool though it it were one of the last scenes in the movie.

I think whenever Harvey shows his dark side he shoudl flip the coin to make some signifance. Or when he's doen an evil act.

I worry that it might be sledgehammer subtle if done incorrectly. Maybe he could flip the coin while talking to Jim or Bats and nobody comments on it.
Also, Bruce and Harvey shouldn't be friends, I feel. I don't think public Bruce, the playboy, is someone Harv would want to be friends with.
That said, if they go with that, the bottom won't fall out of my world.

Since it appears that the scarring will occur in THE DARK KNIGHT (one of the scenes in the sides appears to be the scarring scene, Goyer has said THE DARK KNIGHT will make it clear that THE LONG HALLOWEEN is the greatest influence on the franchise, and Ekhart keeps talking like he's playign Two Face in the film to some degree), they better establish the coin.

Don't emphasis the coin in dialouge, just show him playing with it....particularly in his darker or contemplative moments.....

One of the scenes in the sides is Bruce Wayne bringing an attractive companion to dinner at the Dent home. So it seems they'll have some level of friendship as Bruce/Harvey.

He could maybe explain it was a gift from his father or something.

But the scene from TLH would work well also, except that I don't think he's going to go after Bruce.

I hope it's not so much a 'friendship' as it is two powerful Gotham identities mixing in the same social circle. I don't really see Bruce and Dent getting along in their personal lives considering the playboy image Bruce likes to keep.

After watching the TAS Two-Face origin a little while ago (I found it on AOL Videos) I really like this idea. And like throughout TDK, they could hint at Big Bad Harv without full out displaying him, and show Harvey flipping the coin or playing with it in his hand or something when ever BBH is trying to come out. And sort of have Harvey slowly lose control of BBH through TDK.

If TDK mentions the phrase "Big Bad Harv", I will double over in laughter and need medical assistance.

Agreed, but I used that phrase because it was fresh on my mind and I didn't know what else to call his other personality.

If the words "Big Bad Harv" appear, there will be great weeping and gnashing of teeth. It's a terrible name. It was terrible in the BTAS (which actually had a fairly mediocre Two Face origin, if you ask me), and it is terrible now.

Personally, I don't think Dent should have any documented history of mental illness, and his descent into darkness should borrow from two sources: THE LONG HALLOWEEN and the exceptional "Eye of the Beholder."

I was just thinking, there isn't much discussion as to whether Two-Face really needs to have two personalities at all. While that's the common contemporary interpretation, plenty of them over the years have not given him two distinct personalities.

Do I smell a new thread?
