Eternals Eternals at the Box Office

I hope in the future some folks in threads/forums like these could post sources on how much each movie that come out needs to break even, make a profit etc..
Example-

How Much Eternals Cost To Make (& How Much Box Office To Be A Success)
With Marvel's Eternals arriving in theaters, we take a look at how much the film cost to make and what it needs to earn for box office success. quote- Eternals' reported production budget is around $200 million. That figure makes it one of the pricier non-Avengers movies in the MCU recently. Shang-Chi cost $150 million to make, while Spider-Man: Far From Home cost $160 million. Captain Marvel's budget was between $150-175 million. In the last few years, Black Widow and Black Panther were MCU solo movies that cost $200 million to make.

The general rule of thumb is a film's breakeven point is its production budget doubled. This means Eternals would have to gross around $400 million globally in order to recoup its costs. Right now, it has a good chance of hitting that mark.
A handful of Hollywood blockbusters have passed that threshold worldwide, including Shang-Chi ($423.6 million) and No Time to Die ($606.7 million). Black Widow earned $379.6 million, but its gross was affected by the hybrid Disney+ release where viewers paid to watch it via Premier Access. Given the popularity of the MCU and the gap between studio tentpoles since No Time to Die opened, there should be demand for Eternals. However, there are some factors working against it.

The reason i bring this up because i seen some youtube channels(and you know who they are)making stuff up, like eternals need 500 million to break even etc.and that's not true of course.

Hmmm I think for the longest time, doubling the film's production budget at the worldwide boX office if I'm not mistaken is what most people assume for the film to break even; and for the boX office numbers to be considered as okay, if not good. Aside from that, I don't know anything else.

Hollywood accounting I suppose.

I thought NTTD needed at least $900 million to break even. There’s an article somewhere about that.

Part of NTTD's issue was all the money they sank into marketing right before COVID shut downs. That movie was like, a week or 2 away before it moved. So I think that is why that number is so high

Eternals moved multiple times as well.

Not the same cause it didn't move right before release. It moved way in advance, thus marketing money not spent. NTTD spent a bunch of money on TV spots, billboards, etc. All of which was just lost money. Not the same situations at all, my friend

If they're moving release dates they spent marketing money.

No they didn't. Eternals hadn't even released a teaser when COVID hit. The movie was still eight months away and still in post-production.

Eternals iirc didn't have any marketing material released back in 2019/early 2020, aside from logo/concept arts and promoting in Comic Con 2019.

Its definitely nowhere near like No Time to Die, Mulan, The Quiet Place and Black Widow in which marketing/promotion were in full force and premiere events already happened. I can still remember the Billie Eilish song was already out but they had to delay the movie. Must have been a nightmare for studios at that time.

Who knows, money was probably still spent elsewhere for Eternals. delaying movies and merchandise can/would definitely cost money.

Vile, you are just being obtuse here. Are you really trying to tell me that Eternals spent the same money as NTTD when it never started its big marketing push right before the movie opens? Cause if you are, you are just pushing an agenda then. Because you are just wrong. Not even a matter of speculation, this is a fact. Moving a movie 2 weeks before it opens costs you more in lost marketing dollars than doing so many months in advance. If you think the situations are identical, you can keep living on that fantasy and you do you. I have nothing else to say to you

Seems like Marvels films have a much lower breakeven point than other films..:oldrazz:

The thing is most of the big budget films this year will loose some money, Black Widow and Eternals included. The studios are factoring the pandemic situation hence the reason we will see more Jungle Cruise, Dune, Eternals and Black Widow on the big screen in the future..

The silver lining is that Disney will allow some losses, it needs content for the streaming business, that’s just content costs. Especially it is just starting and need to catch up, MCU content is among its most reliable sources so losses and disappointment be damned, it’s still good for the big picture. Netflix spends billions on content every year and it gets pretty much next to nothing from box offices.

By the way here some info for black widow.

Was Marvel's 'Black Widow' was a home run or a strike out? We dug through the numbers.

Not sure why Jungle Cruise needs a sequel.

71M isn't bad. Let's see what the drop is next week. I suspect it'll be about 60%. I'm going to see it tomorrow as it's my day "off".

I don't think I'm being obtuse. *Shrugs* I wasn't wrong about the Tomato Meter dropping.

But you clearly don't understand how marketing works. Or how money spending works. So this is just a waste of time for me.

Respond however you like. I aint replying
