Eternals Eternals at the Box Office

Gee, I wonder why :o

I dont think being banned in those countries matters. Marvel probably knew it was probable

I should also add we're awfully spoiled if we turn our noses up at a $75 M opening weekend for the freaking Eternals. A property that a lot of comics fans have barely heard of let alone read. There's no large scale fanbase for the property.

If it opens with $75 million, it would be the 3rd or 4th highest opening weekend in North America. $76 million would put it above Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as it also opened with $75 million.

The only movie that is certain to make more than Venom 2, in the opening weekend, later this year is Spider-Man: No Way Home. The MatriX Resurrections, maybe it would open with 70 million or more; but it will be on HBO MaX right away.

1. Spider-Man No Way Home - 100 million+?
2. Venom Let There Be Carnage - 90 million
3. Black Widow - 80 million
4. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings/Eternals - 75 million

Crazy how Marvel movies are dominating North America's boX office

How is that different from any other year recently?

In 2019, there are 3 non Marvel movies that outgrossed Captain Marvel in North America. 4 non Marvel movies, outgrossed Spider-Man Far From Home. The Lion King and Star Wars Ep 9 opened with bigger numbers than Captain Marvel and Far from Home, in North America. And thats not even including Dark PhoeniX/Venom.

2018, a couple of movies outgrossed and opened higher than Ant-Man and the Wasp.

1 - Marvel still has highest grossing film each of those years

2 - more competition

I wouldn't say the MCU is doing that great this year, though. Sure it does really well in the US but worldwide there aren't any entries in the top three (not even counting the Chinese films).Venom holds the record for best opening weekend, soon will make more than Shang-Chi and looks like even Dune will probably surpass Black Widow. I'm sure Spider-Man will be #1 by next year but so far t's actually refreshing to see some healthy competition for a change.

Not every year. And Spider-Man is going to have to gross a lot more then any Marvel movie this year to be #1 WW. F9 is the biggest non-China film release at 721m. I don't really believe China domestic numbers.

I actually had a bigger crowd for this Thursday preview night showing than I did for BW or Shang Chi. They did have it in a smaller room though than the other movies but noticeable bigger crowd.

Perhaps people are really keen to witness first hand if it is indeed as bad as critics will it to be around the league of Sharknado series. :oldrazz:

the opening week looks solid based on some preview estimates unless the weekend sale collapses faster than its RT score. The key is week 2 and 3 that will be a good test of the MCU brand.

I will have a 2nd viewing in theater, the 3rd MCU movie that I will see more than once in cinema after Ragnarok and Endgame. :word:

Eternals International Box Office Pacing Ahead Of Shang-Chi And Black Widow

So domestically this will have either the second or third best opening weekend of the year.

Spiderman is gonna beat that.

The tracking crew over at BOT has previews estimated around $9.5-10 million, which would point to a $22-23 million true Friday and a high 70s/low 80s OW. So pretty much bang on expectations.

The opening is pretty good.

The real test will see how much it drops next weekend. Black Widow dropped a big 68%, thanks in part because of Disney+. Shang-Chi did much better at 54%.

If this drops above 60%, it’ll be in trouble.

Very Impressive. For this to do Shang Chi numbers,
Shang Chi had a holiday to help it out, this didn't.
Fingers Crossed.
