Look at my avatar, I have a place in my heart for seedy soldiers. Jokes aside, I liked him as a couple together with Sersi, because both are kind of unagitated and introverted together. As an introverted person myself, it was really refreshing to see someone like him / them in a leading role.
Furthermore, I liked Maddens acting and struggle and his kind of regret.
I think it would be interesting to see Ikaris in the future movies after his betrayal here.

I can see why people felt cold about him and Sersi though. My guess is there would be more flashbacks, which were cut in the editing room for a better pacing. The beautiful scene with Thena from the trailers is missing in the final cut (possibel the time in Athen?), and I guess Phastos had more in the original plan as well.

The missing Thena scene looks like it was filmed many thousands of years ago in Babylon.

here's a question, did Dr. Strange (in his 14 million+ visions) see as far to the events of the Eternals? cause if this was the scenario he saw playing out that made this timeline "the one that works"

then this completely changes my view on the events
(maybe strange knew the Eternals needed that extra 5 years to get their **** together to be able to stop the coming events, maybe had they saved the population at the time and these events happen 5 years earlier the Eternals wouldn't have been able to act in time)

but if he(Dr. Stange) let the events play out not knowing what was going to happen in the Eternals then I think there's still some ethical dilemmas with it

Interesting question as to how far Strange could see into the future. Never thought of that before. I assumed it was just the defeat of Thanos.

Just watched it again and still like it despite its flaws. But as the credits were rolling right as Brian Tyree Henry’s name comes up there is a picture of what looks like an arm and the rings from Shang chi around it did anyone else notice that?

Finally got around to watching Eternals. My biggest complaint is the Thanos of it all. Sersi's answer Dane about not interfering with Human conflict is actually okay by me. Despite Thanos not being Human, Sersi didn't know their true purpose on Earth, so her explanation makes sense. Ikaris and Ajak however did know the true purpose, helping grow the life force of Earth to feed a Celestial. Ikaris is clearly fanatic in his beliefs for Arishem, so why would he not interfere when an alien comes to Earth to kill a large portion of the population. They should have protected humans from Thanos, the same as they do against variants. I would have been more willing to accept the answer that they just didn't know about Thanos. They live forever, they aren't all seeing gods. They are trained to hunt variants, Thanos fighting the Avengers wouldn't even be on the Eternal's radar until suddenly half the population is gone and there isn't much they can do about it.

That aside, it was just okay. I wasn't super excited to watch this one in the first place, but did so for what it could set up for the rest of the MCU.

Also, I could not get over Kit Harrington and Richard Madden yelling Sersi in a different context.

idk if it would make Sersi herself more interesting... but the movie being more center Focused on (a non-catatonic) Thena in of itself would have been more interesting

nothing against Sersi per-say, just would have been interesting to see it told from Thena's POV

Sersi with "Mad-weary" wouldn't have been as much of a threat as Thena
(at least not at that point as we/she wouldn't have known how potentially OP she could truly be) unless in her mad-weary triggered memory of her being that OP'd and her using these powers much earlier on

A big problem is that Sersi and Thena are often diametrically opposed figures in the comics, with Sersi presenting as a shallow party girl and Thena the committed warrior who is literally sleeping with the enemy. The movie versions of these characters were much less interesting than the ones on the printed page.

Another problem is that I don't think the Deviants make a whole heck of a lot of sense. You mean to tell me the Space Gods who can pluck Eternals off of the planet have a problem controlling Deviants? I think they should have been created by some other entity - Perhaps Galactus as an early attempt at heralds? - as a way to stop the development of new Celestials. And the Eternals have been sent to stop the infestation.

Its like I've said before, I'm pretty sure in the original story plan Kro and the Deviants were the "Fake Final Boss" at the midpoint of the movie. Maybe Kro would have still shown up in the finale, maybe not, but his main point would be as both a red herring, and the original source of exposition reveals that otherwise came kind of randomly from Arishem.

That said, I'm honestly fine with the Deviants being Celestial creations. Just peg them as "We created the Deviants as predators to exert an evolutionary pressure on sentient life towards civilization and development. The Eternals provide a positive support towards civilization and development, protection against excess predation, and eventually clear out the Deviants once they are no longer needed." Carrot and stick, sort of.
