Everybody Is Turning Against Netflix

netflix, cable, and satellite tv are dumb.

It's so much nicer popping over to a "site";

- downloading tv shows minutes after they finish on the air
- download movies (old or just released) not yet on Blu-Ray
- download tv series that are not released (Boy Meets World, Power Rangers, etc...)

Bollocks and Voodoo. I believe the great Karl Plinkington said something like "Now we're just making stuff cause we can." I honestly think new age technology is silly. I see little need for iTunes, PS3 and soon to be 4, and all this other crap.

I rather stream video than have to download it. That's the beauty of Netflix and Comcast's ONDemand service.

The exposure does more good than harm. This is like when a network TV series goes on syndication. The network is no longer getting ad revenues, but they're still making a good profit nonetheless. Netflix hasn't really affected Starz or Showtime. It has just been additional business for them. They're just jealous that they haven't been able to pull off what Netflix does. It's as simple as that. Hulu was essentially a big "f--k you" to Netflix and now other channels are trying to figure out ways to screw them as well. That's why Netflix is now in the process of developing original programming. They know the writing is on the wall. By the end of the decade no channel will be streaming their content through Netflix. That's their ultimate goal.

You should probably take a course in economics if you think Showtime and Starz are making a bad decision. Premium channels charge people $15/month on my cable provider, they get most of that money. Netflix is as low as $8/month and I highly doubt Showtime and Starz get nearly the percentage from them. Good economics would be stream your old seasons, get people hooked, then wait on delivering the current season so people want to pay you directly. How is this a bad decision for Showtime and Starz? If I liked a show on one of those networks and had a choice between paying $15/month and $8/month, I'm paying $8/month, plus that plan gives me even more options of things to watch.

Netflix is a video store, so they'll always have streaming TV shows and movies, it just might not be the most recent stuff, but that's okay. Netflix isn't going away anytime soon, they've got an excellent business model and are constantly adapting to the market place unlike say Blockbuster, which waiting way too long to do what Netflix was doing and then tried to ape Red Box way too late.

Dude, that's not how Netflix works at all. Netflix pays them MILLIONS to have that content. Netflix just paid Miramax $100 million to stream their movies for the next 5 years. And that's just movies. So, just imagine how much Netflix is paying Starz and Showtime for their movies AND original TV shows. Some speculate it's almost $250 million. With that kind of cash, Starz and Showtime are being a-holes.

This is happening in music as well...the internet opens up new possibilities...the people in charge ignore it, forcing people to follow the old system. Then, someone opens up shop in this new industry, and cuts into the profits of the old system. As the old system dies, it tries everything it can to shut down the new system...because the old system refuses to change, and will gladly die rather than have to come up with new strategies for success.

Netflix is awesome. No other system comes close to it, including On Demand. If Netflix ever eliminates mail order altogether and allows it's entire library to stream automatically on my tv, they will own the entertainment industry for a generation.

As a Netflix subscriber, I'm definitely not happy about this news. It also means we'd have to wait 90 days before we can see the episodes from the second season of Spartacus streamling on Netflix as well. :cmad:

that's already on instant stream, they have been since they first aired:huh:

Ugh... I guess I'm going to have to resort to downloading Torchwood, Spartacus, and Camelot now. I'll buy Torchwood on blu-ray, that's a given, and probably Spartacus.
Not like I have a whole bunch of shows to download from HBO, but these three along with A Game of Thrones and True Blood take up a lot of hard drive space,

but season 2 which will start next year (not counting season 1 and the prequel) won't be available as the episodes air. :csad:

season three

blood and sand
gods of the arena
season 3

want to see it when it airs? buy the channel. they've got every right to distribute their product as they see fit.

No, it's season 2
Gods of the Arena was a prequel miniseries.

I hate watching tv on my computer.

Anyway, I love Netflix. I do own a dish, but it's pretty cheap. Way cheaper than cable. I use both about equal. But I'd never drop a dime on extended channels like HBO.

More or less. iTunes has restored order to some degree.

Itunes sucks...
Amazon has cheaper albums and they get their stuff the same time Itunes does except for the very rare exception. I've only had to wait ONCE for Amazon to get an album.

The only thing I don't like about Amazon MP3 is that every MP3 seems to be a different Bitrate instead of like Itunes where everything is 320k

The only real difference is that Itunes uses AAC. Amazon using 256 and Itunes using 320. But at those numbers the difference is not distinguishable to the human ear. AAC is only better sounding at lower bitrates. Much lower. Itunes overcharges for no real reason other than greed.
