I remember the audible screams and groans in my theater when this happened.I wonder if there's a scene in this new one that will be as painful to watch as this.

Yeah this was very scary!
The scene where Beth is listening to the record to figure out how to end it, and Ellie crawling through the vents? that was horrifying. And Ellies possessed daughter floating towards her other kids with the bed sheet still on like a ghost. That was so damn effective and spooky.
Alyssa sutherland looking through the peephole of the door has instantly become one of the most iconic bits in a recent horror film. It's just so damn good.
I also loved how with the original films, and the remake, there was a cellar where the book was. In this one, there was a hole in the parking lot under the apartment complex caused by an earthquake. The vinyl record, the book, etc, is all there. I loved that little twist on it.
Also, the title reveal for this movie is just *chefs kiss*. Lee Cronin poured all his love for the franchise into this movie, and before the movie actually even begins, you know it if you're an Evil Dead fan. I love this franchise so much, and it really is my favorite horror franchise overall.
I recall watching a feature on Ash vs Evil Dead that Sam and the boys felt they had to go back to the original continuity because it didn't resonate with fans as well as they hoped.
I didn’t realize the 2013 remake opened to over $25M! That was pretty big. Why no sequel?
Huge drop off, I presume? (ala the remakes of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street).
That's interesting because I feel like the last decade has been nothing but kind to the 2013 version. I remember it being a mixed response at the time, but it really seems like folks have started to come around to its sadistic charms.I recall watching a feature on Ash vs Evil Dead that Sam and the boys felt they had to go back to the original continuity because the resonate with fans as well as they hoped.
