...going Sunday morning, have to see Beau tonight.

Seeing Beau (in IMAX for some reason) and Evil Dead on Sunday.

Evil dead rise was fantastic. I've always been a huge fan of this franchise and I feel like a lot of people don't recognize that it's pretty much the most consistent horror franchise out there. Evil Dead Rise didn't disappoint. Tons of gore? Check. Great cast of characters? Check. Vulgarity from the possessed? Check. And it was scary! The film carries the DNA of what Raimis films did and Fede Alvarez's 2013 film did as well. I'm one happy Evil dead fan.

This was such a gnarly blast and I can't wait to see what's next for this long running and beautiful franchise. hope we get that Ash, Mia, and Beth crossover!!

9/10

Yeah, I absolutely loved it. What a spook-a-blast. Really enjoyed and was impressed by how Cronin blended Raimi's comedic black humor zaniness and Alvarez's serious tones together masterfully. The leads rock it and the kids were wonderful (I hope the studio covered their therapy!)

Another great entry to the franchise that further solidifies Evil Dead as the best horror series around.

Excited to see where it goes from here and whatever Cronin does next. He's a terrific talent to keep an eye on. Props to Raimi and co. for betting on these up-and-comers like Alvarez and Lee and letting them do their thing. They've made worthy editions that stand next to Sam and Bruce's.

It's scary! It's actually scary! Loved it so very much!

It was even more tonally in line with the 2013 flick than I was expecting. I've read lots of people saying it has more humor, but I'm not seeing that. I also think the 2013 version is funny, just in a super super dark, insane, mean spirited way. It doesn't mix scares and punchlines the way Raimi does in EVIL DEAD II (which makes me think, if you want that mix between scares and comedic punchlines tonally in line with ED2, then Zach Cregger has to be the guy to make it, right?).

None of that is a complaint either, just an observation. I absolutely adore the 2013 flick and I'm over the moon we got a movie as nasty as that one.

Yeah this was very scary!

The scene where Beth is listening to the record to figure out how to end it, and Ellie crawling through the vents? that was horrifying. And Ellies possessed daughter floating towards her other kids with the bed sheet still on like a ghost. That was so damn effective and spooky.

Alyssa sutherland looking through the peephole of the door has instantly become one of the most iconic bits in a recent horror film. It's just so damn good.

I also loved how with the original films, and the remake, there was a cellar where the book was. In this one, there was a hole in the parking lot under the apartment complex caused by an earthquake. The vinyl record, the book, etc, is all there. I loved that little twist on it.

Also, the title reveal for this movie is just *chefs kiss*. Lee Cronin poured all his love for the franchise into this movie, and before the movie actually even begins, you know it if you're an Evil Dead fan. I love this franchise so much, and it really is my favorite horror franchise overall.

Very clever riffs on the Evil Dead formula. Loved the Wuthering Heights bit at the beginning. Super smart way of invoking the playing cards.

The peep hole is a great evolution of the deadite-in-the-cellar. You get the dynamic of the deadite being right there and easily able to taunt and verbally torment the characters. You lose the unnervingness of the thing being kind of in the same room as them, but the trade off is they get to use the peephole as a POV, which just warps an already nightmarish character into something even more bizarre, so it's still a win.

Saw this last night in a packed theater. Overall, it was decent not as good as the 2013 film, but I enjoyed the sheer madness of the deadites. The only issues I had with it were the characters’ accents slipping out from time-to-time and the number of occurrences they would just stare at someone after they’ve witnessed them mutilate themselves or someone else.

Glad to hear y'all are liking it. Not sure if I'll be able to go tonight or have to wait until Tuesday.

yes please! Raimi has brought up the idea of an anthology. Where Raimi directs one part, Fede another, and Cronin the third part. That's such an ambitious idea. The fact that it keeps getting brought up sounds to me like Raimi really wants to make this crossover happen.

I didn’t realize the 2013 remake opened to over $25M! That was pretty big. Why no sequel?

Huge drop off, I presume? (ala the remakes of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street).

I recall watching a feature on Ash vs Evil Dead that Sam and the boys felt they had to go back to the original continuity because it didn't resonate with fans as well as they hoped.

The chainsaw in this has the same color-scheme as the Delta 88:hehe:

That's interesting because I feel like the last decade has been nothing but kind to the 2013 version. I remember it being a mixed response at the time, but it really seems like folks have started to come around to its sadistic charms.

Yeah, it only did $54 mil domestically. Which isn't really bad for its budget, but apparently not what they were looking for.
