Exiles: Proteus-Morph Discussion

Whenever someone mentions Exiles now, I get all sad inside. I miss you Mimic. I miss you, Claremont CrapFree Exiles :(

I don't even think either of those would have actually been that bad if they'd actually let the deaths mean something by letting the team actually beat Proteus, instead of this jacked-up skin-puppet ********.

...I mean they even more or less killed Mimic before with the Brood and the book worked fine before they brought him back.
I agree. I didn't have a problem with World Tour or the team fighting Proteus or anything, but come on, they compromised for a non-victory after the loss of two major characters. That's just plain not heroic. I don't want to root for these a**holes if they're willing to let one of their own be turned into some freakish abomination and pretend nothing's wrong.

I mean, I could understand if they wanted to take the Exiles darker. That'd be fine. Just merge them with Weapon X and have them be a little less morally upstanding and a little more down and dirty. That might actually have been cool (especially if they brought the Weapon X Vision back). But no, they essentially lost the fight against Proteus in the end, accepted a s***ty consolation 'win' at the expense of Morph, and tried to pretend they were still decent people at the end of it. F*** you, Blink. If your team does that sort of thing, they're filthy human beings; the least you could do is have the decency to act like it. :o

... Man.... I miss how good the Exhiles used to be.

It took me WAAAY too long to drop this title because of the fondness i had for it when it started out. (I actually waited all the way till the horrible new exhiles cartooney bestiality issue with the dragon and some prince)

In its prime, Exiles was a great book.

Now, I think it would be better to put the book out of its misery.

I'm fine with it continuing. It'll keep Claremont off of some other book that actually matters.

Bedard at least had the team trying to figure out a way to get Proteus out of Morph, they weren't ignoring it or just dealing with him like he was. He left that avenue and story open for Claremont to finish, and instead he just dropped it.

They look like uncaring morons due to Claremont, not Bedard. :cmad:

Eh, there's so much to hate Claremont for already, though. Share the wealth a bit.

But I like Bedard, and I loved his writing on Exiles.

Can the shared hate be aimed toward Busiek for the abomination that is Trinity. :(

Trinity isn't anywhere near as bad as anything Clairemont's done in the last ten years.

Trinity's actually not bad at all. It's not great, but it's a solid read every week. It seems like all the disparate elements are coming together to actually push the plot in a coherent direction now, too.

Sadly, I was thinking the same thing until I read the last issue. That was the first issue in the Claremont run that I kind of enjoyed. It's about time. I have too much respect for Claremont's past work not to give him the benefit of the doubt but it was becoming a chore just to try and choke down a ridiculous issue of New Exiles. Awful line up and an awful run... this coming from a Claremont loyalist. I hope this last issue signifies a turn. It literally is the first issue that I read where I did NOT close the cover and say, "Boy, that SUCKED."

It's been getting a little better but really some of the ideas (cartoon dragon in love with the prince) Absolute crap. Also can we get some diffent characters please. Granted Exiles was started a vehicle to feature blink and has always had more x related characters but it's practically the whole damn cast now. And some don't make sense at all they are exactly like their counterpart (Psyloche) or are written like people they are not (sabretooth basically being a bigger wolverine he even said bub in an issue a while back!). I do like the new Gambit son of Namor Character and the Mystique as a guy but I could do so much better (idea wise and coming up with characters) than claremont is.

I mean you can have literally anyone you can imagine and all we get are some half baked xmen. Damn use this book as an outlet for characters that got screwed!

I was gonna start a new thread based on my last post but decided not to clutter.

My thread theme would have been If you were writing exiles what would your dream cast be? Can't be all original cast.

Mine would be:
Scarlet Spider (ben reilly we miss you)
Morph (the real one no proteus)
Gambit (Female alternate)
Captain America (young alternate)
Darkhawk (yes that one)
Blink
Songbird (thunderbolts)
ultimate firestar
Hawkeye (female one kate bishop)
Jolt (thunderbolts)

-Blink
-Mimic
-Morph (these three are the heart of the damn team to me. They're the Iron Man, Cap and Thor)

-Hercules: Young and arrogant....er... more arrogant I guess. Still rocking the Nemean Lion hide costume and using his mace and such... Still willing to use a bow)

-Spider: Alternate reality. Superhero registration happened decades earlier. Before the Spider bite. As a result Parker registered right away and went through Shield Training. Has customised, shield issue weaponry and a more advanced costume. (Think Like Bucky's version of Cap but for Spiderman.) Rookie fresh out of the initiative but top of his class.

- Dane Whitman: Black Knight and adept sorcerer (trained briefly under Stephen Strange before Strange's death) Carries a collection of both mystical and technological weaponry including the eye of Aggamotto. In reality the entire world is at War with Dormammu's forces who have breached the barrier between dimensions. Grizzled war veteran type.

- Aurora: Orphaned at a young age when her and her brother's powers manifested. Her brother went crazy and killed the rest of her family. Aurora tried to stop him accidentally killing him in the process. Swore never to kill again.

- Black Cat: reformed (probably) cat burglar/ super villain. Has were-cat form/abilities instead of luck based ones given to her by the Kingpin to defeat her world's Spiderman. Taken to join the Exhiles directly from prison after her first defeat by Spiderman.

I copletely agree with your blink, mimic morph comment but i didn't put mimic cause I was trying to limit it two originals.

Love your other pics especially your spider and black cat. I almost used aurora almost. I feel my team might be a little to big but there are so many good characters you could use.

Someone once posted a funky costume for spidey under that shield idea it was pretty wicked cool, do you want me to try and find it?

I like your ideas actually. And you're right Blink, Mimic, and Morph should be the everlasting veterans. Beyond them the cast could be rotating.

I could do without Blink, myself. I thought the period after she left was pretty good.

As promised this was done by JediKnight pretty crazy stuff:

As for Blink Corp how could you say that:csad:

Well vanguard what do you think of the pic?

Good but not absolutely necessary. A team without Blink and Mimic would've been kind of sad but bearable if they put good characters in. A team without Morph is not the Exiles.

I miss Mimic, but the team would have been fine...and Corp is right...even though I love Blink, the book did work for a while without her, and it could have again.

The team just needs to be filled with interesting characters, and right now, that is what it is lacking. Remember the team with Mariko (Sunfire) on the team, that was probably my favorite version of the team. The relationship with Morph and Mariko was sweet and sad all at the same time. She was the only one he would allow to see the real him, no jokes or silliness. It saddened me that it was doomed to failure. I miss Morph being handled in a serious manner like that, unlike the characature he is now.
