Yep interesting review...and I too thought of why Melissa didnt call 911...but then again she is a minor stripping (maybe get in trouble)...if she talked to a reporter...could label her "anonymous" and expose the truth, etc.....just thought of that just now...
911 wouldn't have worked because the guy had diplomatic imunity. They couldn't touch him. But a reporter could expose the story. That's why the girl... (do we even know her name?) insisted on having a reporter.

Uhm, that's not how diplomatic immunity works. Hulk is a lawyer and could explain it, but the guy would still get arrested.

While the lawbreaking diplomat was in custody, then the home country would work out what to do with him. It's up to the home country to decide whether or not they want the guy to be protected, for violent crimes they often waive immunity.

Other times the bad guy would get deported to be prosecuted by his home country instead.

So, calling 911 is the thing she shoulda done...

Personally, I have no idea where she was keeping the change to use that pay phone anyway. She was wearing a slim haltar dress and had no purse in her hands...

Where was the change?

Even better. DIdn't she have a cell phone? Even Clark has a cell phone and he lives on a farm. :)

...its a comic book tv show. If we're going to be picky about details such as diplomatic immunity (such a big word for the target audience of smallville) then we might as well say that due to the impact of the Helicopter flying into Clark's hand, everybody in that chopper would have had a SERIOUS case of whip-lash...if they were lucky. But NO.

I don't know if it's just me, but I really enjoy the scenes between Lex and Jonathan. I especially enjoyed this weeks interaction between them with Lex being the "righteous" one and Jonathan having to actually swallow his words. They have a certain chemistry between them that is quite exciting to watch. Just an opinion. Oh and btw, i'm not particularly a filler episode fan, BUT, I think it just makes you enjoy the really good episodes even more.

She probably stole the change and held it in her hand. I imagine she didn't go too terribly far, because if I were in the situation I'd hit the first payphone I saw. It's not that hard to imagine.

I liked the Lex/Jonathan scenes as well...except when Lex referred to Wopat's character as Jonathan's "good old boy." Made me cringe.

I also enjoyed the episode, mostly for the Dukes references, and jonothan peeling out in the General Lee!

I like the Lex/Jonothan scenes, except one thing. When Jonothan said to him, "You know Lex, I have never liked you." That was just cold, because I thought they had been ok with each other since the end of Pheonix, when Lex bought their farm for them. I mean...he SAVED their home, and this is the way Jonothan Treats Lex.

That just erked me!

Lex has always been treated unfairly despite his good intentions. It's one of the main reasons I think he finally accepted his dark side.
"Everybody treats me like I'm the bad guy. Might as well be the bad guy."

I was little bothered by that statement as well, but then I thought we can assume that Clark has told Jonathan everything about Lex's less than scrupulous activities, so now Jonathan is drawing from the feelings that he always had. That is he has never liked Lex Luthor very much, his instincts were right from the beginning.

I guess he now sees Lex's helping out with the farm's finances just as he saw it in that episode Cool, he wanted to wangle his way into their lives just to get closer and find out more about Clark.

Here's my review so take a look if you want.

I guess your review was coming from a bag of mixed feelings, and I'm still not sure that I was totally bedazzled by this episode either, but for me it had the obvious redeeming qualities and I do like it when they throw a crime story into the mix.

I thought Melissa's death was quite spectacular, and I'm not a sadist. I also think that she phoned Chloe at the Daily Planet because of the bad guy having diplomatic immunity and its not too much of a stretch to think that she grabbed some change before she fled. And if you think of the Daily Planet of the future, that is one with Lois & Clark as reporters, alot of victims, people with big stories phone the Planet to get the story Exposed.

I cant comment on the diplomatic immunity thing as I know nothing about International Law, but I would hate to think that they wrote a story with a plot like that without doing a little bit of homework.

Oh, and I didnt notice anything wrong with Clark's hair, he looked as gorgeous as always to me, but then I never think he looks bad. ;) :D

I agree with you Brainiac, that's why I added that Jonathan had to swallow his words. I loved when Lex told him if he could get off his pulpit. That was a nice little jab and I would like to see more of that in Lex. I want to see him start defending his actions, but only the way Lex can. Almost like double talking and making you doubt yourself. I think Lex is by far the coolest character on the show.

When you think about it tho, Lex was very masterful the way he played that whole thing. He got Clark to investigate what was happening with Jennings knowing full well what Clark's feeling were towards the Senator and that he wouldnt stop until he got to the bottom.

"I recognise the club, here's my VIP pass"

Lex knew that if he investigated and revealed the evidence he found, then he would be accused of political slander/games.

And he also showed Jonathan the phone bill and said he would do nothing about it, just to show that he wasnt the bad guy.

In the end he got the result that he wanted without barely lifting a finger.

Lex is playing the Kent's.

Good observation Avid, you hit the nail on the head. I'm telling you Lex is the reason I watch this show and the casting director couldn't have picked a better actor to portray Lex other then Michael Rosenblum. Don't get me wrong I love the whole show, TW is awesome and the characters jive well with eachother. I just think the show is more intense when Lex is involved.

Those were my thoughts exactly, to just assume Lex was completely innocent is to negate every thing he's done prior to this point. He is a master manipulator.

Nice review Trip. Though I passed the 911 call off as the cops were probably corrupt. Especially after the comment about how people had looked the other way when it came to the clubs operation.

Just wish SV would turn out more eps like the first 3.

semi naked stripper chicks - good..
chloe's line: thinking not good, dancing good - highlight of the epi..
Clark powers display - ok..
Dukes stuff - umm.. good for them..
ED/Lois - yawn..
Lex the campaign newbie - good..
No Martha at all - umm.. tolerable..
No Lana at all - untolerable.. no no, we can't have that !

There is a weird vibe (?) with shows that are (mostly) set in Metropolis..
Can't nail it, but noticed it first time in Exile..
Out of Smallville - fish out of water kind'a thingy..
Puzzled.. Really puzzled..
Maybe it's me.. :)

I was re-reading the thread and i'm not sure what I missed, what's the significance with Cloe and 7th and Edgemont?

Not Chloe, Lana.

KK starred in a Canadian show called Edgemont. Also, she was in a made-for-TV version of Snow White (and the 7 you know whats).

i was waitin for someone to acknowledge that tidbit..... i had begun to think no one got it

Triplet, about the diplomatci immunity thing, it's entirely possible that this guy was hauled in for crimes (perhaps even similar crimes) before, and been given a get-out-of-jail free, so Detective Sawyer knew detaining him wouldn't do anything more than getting him in custody for a few days.
