lol comic book ...mov....ie

So what do you give the film again I'm sorry your post kinda through.me for a loop. Also can you tell is what all you liked and/or disliked about it if you don't mind.

Can anybody tell me if the movie has opening credits or just jumps right into the story.

Thank you!

Odin gives a little speech in the beginning.

That's right I had heard that.

I meant at any point in the beginning do they have old fashioned opening credits or are they superimposed over the speech or other action?

The only MCU movie that I recall having any opening credits is IH and they are played during a montage of the updated origin story--so basically they wisely used them to get the audience up to speed without having to have a full reboot origin.

They show a title card for the title of the movie, nothing more than that like the names of the cast/crew.

That's great---I like the trend of not having formal opening credits. End credits are running 7-9 minutes for these movies so why have 3-4 at the front as well?

Thanks.

Man more and more people are rating Thor higher and higher the closer we get to the NA release date.

I love it!

I'd say right now it's my second favourite MCU film after the Avengers. Visually it's probably the best of them, and Taylor brought a grittiness to the Nine realms that was lacking in the first film, and sets all looked more lived in this time around.

Hemsworth, Hiddleston and Hopkins were all pretty amazing, especially Hopkins. Big Anthony was fairly unhinged nearing the end and thematically it served the film's underlining themes of cold, ruthless pragmatism that leaders often have to utilize. Also I liked that they hinted at Loki and Thor having influenced each other for the better. Really Loki's in a position now where he's one of the most interesting CBM characters around.

On the bad side...way too much comedy, too much Jane and pals. And like every non-Loki MCU villain, Malekith was underused and underdeveloped. Poor Eccleston just can't get a break.

Also, the best part of post-credits scene was
alien chicks

Based on how Thor: TDW is now the second film within Phase 2 that has gotten a good amount of people to question and even criticize the amount of comedic elements within the film, I think it's safe to say that Winter Soldier might follow in its footsteps as well, especially considering that the directors are known for their comedic projects.

I am hoping that Marvel learns to find a better balance in portraying their drama and comedy because I do feel that it's best to have a good amount of both, but not so much where one side is placed so much where people say that they could have used less of it.

I think the first "Iron Man" is the best example of having the right amount of comedy and drama to it.

This.

Now, on 2nd viewing, the humor isn't as bad as it comes off the first time you see it. But, I still feel it's misplaced and not really called for in the 2nd half of the picture.

Taken by themselves as individual scenes, yeah, quite funny. But, once you see the film, you'll understand why at around the 50 minute mark, it should've been far less than what's presented in the film as now.

Still, I think this is the 3rd best film in the MCU behind Iron Man and the Avengers.

It is, without question or debate, the best looking film in the MCU by freaking miles. No joke, this film should be up for Oscars in terms of production design, cinematography, costume design, and visual effects (mostly). It's that good.

It's not only about the amount of humor in a Marvel movie per se. It's more about the type and amount of humor meshing with the rest of the movie, and it's story and general feel. Having balance and timing with the humor in the film's own context, so not forsaking whatever else is going on.

And in my opinion Iron Man 3 did this great, while it was a bit more flawed in Thor: The Dark World. Also, I thought there were more humor stuff in T:TDW than in IM3 that didn't work even as humor.

Exact opposite as you, 747. I thought it was terrible in Iron Man Three. Here, it's more tolerable, even if I had problems with it in certain spots.

There's just as many people praising the comedy in T:TDW so let's not act as if Marvel is doing something wrong per say. Now the critics on the other hand down right praise this films comedy far more than they condemn it.

I'm just saying people shouldn't let personal taste make them think a studio is doing something "wrong". It's just that some things aren't for everybody and comedy is a very tough thing for people to agree on

Not surprising.

To be frank, I've had several issues with how Whedon visualized the Avengers film, not in terms of its story, but of how it was shot on camera.

Iron Man 3 looked visually better imho and the stuff that I've seen of TDW definitely looks better than it as well, and the same goes for the stuff that we've seen for the WS.

I really do hope that Whedon has stepped his game up BIG TIME considering on how his Avengers' films are meant to conclude each phase for the time being, so they should look the best that they can be and not be shot as though it were an expensive TV Show.

True, and maybe it is my own personal taste when i say this, but three straight comedy films from the MCU...I mean, nothing wrong with comedy in general, but I feel like the comedy can be misplaced a few times within the last two films and we've had a fair share of reliable posters here who have been saying that the comedy in this film felt misplaced at times in the second half of the film.

It's not going to ruin the film of course for me, or for a great deal of amount of people, but I hope that in time, Marvel finds a better balance of how and where to put their comedic elements in their films.

The TV show complaint rears it's ugly head again, but I do agree that the TA wasn't shot with the most interesting filters. It was especially noticeable in the final battle, it was by far the most drap looking part of the entire film everything else was nice.

Plus, it doesn't help that it's the only film within the entire MCU that was shot with a TV aspect ratio/full screen as opposed to wide screen.lol

But nevertheless, I still think that this film will do great overall.

This film would have to be INCREDIBLY BAD..on the scale of Batman and Robin, for it to bomb or under perform.

I'm just hoping that there isn't as much focus on Earth based characters in the next film since I feel like there's a whole set of characters from Thor's world that have yet to be explored and who are much more interesting and I want to see Chris and Tom interact with as much of them as possible before their contract expires.

Woah now calling The Avengers and Iron Man 3 "comedy films" is a hyperhole for the ages, neither one of those film were nowhere near "comedies". They were action adventure films with comedic elements throughout, but not enough to be labeled "comedies".

Good grief

Apologies, bad usage of words. You are more accurate with what you've labeled them as of course, though I guess my issue is that the trailers for The Avengers and Iron Man 3 somewhat hinted at a much more darker/serious film(s) than what we eventually got, which I guess was the idea in the first place from the minds of the promotion/marketing department.lol

The Dark World blows Iron Man Three out of the water, visually. It's not even close. Alan Taylor = chess, the rest of the MCU directors = checkers.

Yeah I didn't like cinematography in the Avengers all that much. But with Thor:TDW it was golden.
