I thought it was strange when Loki disguised himself as a guard and then told Odin he died. He had the most obviously evil expression on his face, and Odin didn't take notice of it at all. If I were Odin, I would've taken that as a signal that something isn't right.

I think Odin knew. Didn't you see the look he gave that guard.

I just saw the first Thor film again. Man does that movie look cheap in comparison. Holy crap. I remember it looking cheap when I saw it in theatres but not that bad. Compared to film 2 it's like a student film shot on a digital camera.

Ya, T:TDW blows it out of the water in terms of scope and cinematography.

However, it pains me to say the dialigue was better in the first.

Interesting. I thought TDW looked like a glorified tv episode.

Wut? Ok now that's the biggest exaggeration I've heard about this movie.

Not even remotely close. Please show me a TV show with comparable scope and special FX.

I really dug this movie. Visually it was like watching Star Wars and Lord of the Rings smashed together. I liked the last Thor, but this was a definite step up.

Game of Thrones actually comes pretty close to thor 2 in spots. And notice I said it looked like glorified tv show. I thought the film looked pedstrian . Especially the the dark elf world. The battle scene on Hogun's world was hokey looking as hell. The london stuff was nothing special. About the only good visuals were Asgard, but its hard to **** that up. And throughout the whole film there was bad compositing and green screen. Mostly on the dark elf world.

What's interesting is where Fox and Sony will choose to land tonally.
I for one would think naked old actors and underwear gags a thing only Michael Bay films have.
Erik Selvig also reminded me of Simmons from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

I thought it was a good movie, not without flaws but much better than the first one.

The exposition went on too long and the movie only started to pick up when Thor and company started planning Loki's escape. From there, it was a great ride full of twists and turns.

With so many characters, the movie tries to carry so many subplots together to give everyone some good screen time so that makes it suffer in the end. I think it would be good if they cut down on the number of characters in Thor 3, but then a lot of people would complain if their favorites didn't make the cut. You don't see as many characters in the Iron Man movies and I think that works in those films' favor.

Natalie Portman's character was annoying in the first half but got better when she got back to Earth and showed she could kick ass with science. Her relationship with Thor was also better in terms of chemistry, though still not sizzling.

Kat Denning's Darcy was more bearable this time around.

Anthony Hopkins seemed bored with his Odin, though Rene Russo rocked as Frigga.

Also, I wanted more Sif.

I also loved the scene with Heimdall running after the Dark Elf ship. Idris Elba is such a cool guy.

Chris Hemsworth's acting has improved so much. He showed his chops in Rush and he really owned it as Thor in this sequel.

On Loki, I agree with all those who said Tom Hiddleston's performance was the best part of the movie. Every scene he was in was a joy to behold. I say give the guy a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination (though I doubt he'd win given the potential competition). As an actor, he also seems really invested in his character. He influenced how the cameo played out and there's also an article (I can't find it right now) about how he suggested the scene showing Loki's rage after receiving the Bad News (not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it).

I was always hoping for a redemption arc for Loki and we kind of got it here.

Here's my idea or rather hope for what went down on his main plot point.

I think he actually died, or he actually sacrificed himself. That would explain why Thor could actually hold Loki in his arms. If Loki wasn't real, Thor's arms would go through the illusion. I think The Collector or an agent of Thanos brought him back to life (or maybe kept him from actualy dying?) and helped Loki find a way to push Odin off the throne on the bargain that Loki would deliver the infinity stone to him in exchange. That would explain why Sif and Volstagg gave the Aether to The Collector in the mid-credits scene and why Loki was able to get rid of Odin in some way.

Just got back - I thought it was just okay, nothing amazing by any means. Oh, I was also turned off by so much of the humor. I'm not against humor being in a superhero movie, but my gosh, it really took you out of some of the dramatic scenes and it made everything seem so trivial.

I'd probably give it a 7/10.

Bay didn't direct this, so it probably won't be a big deal.

I've seen the puerile humour of this movie pointed out in a few places.

It won't be as big a deal, but Marvel ignores it at their peril.

Here you go Marvin,

They’re in Britain, as is head scientist Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), who’s running around naked at Stonehenge. Why? Because — ha-ha — he’s naked.

Naked People Are Funny: Erik Selvig runs around Stonehenge while doing his research in his birthday suit due to the insanity he gained from being mind controlled in The Avengers.

Other Negative Elements
In a scene designed to be funny, not titillating, the elderly Eric runs naked around Stonehenge and is documented by news cameras. (His midsection is pixelated.)

The remaining Dark Elves have been dormant for centuries, but a coming cosmic event that only a perennially pantless Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) seems to know about threatens to free them and unleash the now-hidden Aether.

While Selvig wanders in his skivvies across England,

My audience didn't laugh at the first half of the movie. It's like every seen with Darcy, Selvig, and the Darcy's intern fell flat. The comedy didn't get funny until they freed Loki. For some reason Selvig naked at stone hedge wasn't funny but working better in his underwear in his apartment was hilarious. The only early part in the begin that got a giggle was when the intern though is his keys in the portal and of all things they didn't come back.

I was very entertained. Sure there are some issues, but over all it had plenty of action and it was pretty damned funny. Esp. when Loki keeps changing into others and becomes Cap.

I notice a lot of people make the argument "my theatre found it funny" and "my theatre didn't find it funny" and it makes me happy that I was in a relatively quiet theatre with a small crowd. There's something contagious about laughter -- that's why bad TV shows have laugh tracks -- and as such if you are in a crowded theatre you are denied the privilege of your own independent opinion. You will, as a human being, inevitably be swayed if a lot of people have strong reactions. Because laughter, like yawning, is correlated between nearby human beings, 100 people laughing is not equivalent to 100 people finding it funny, because it's not 100 independent variables. Moreover, even if only 30 people out of 100 fund it funny we'll be reading posts stating that "my theatre found it hilarious".

I laughed at Thor placing his hammer on the coat rack, and the banter between Thor and Loki as they were escaping Asgard. A lot of the jokes were irritating nails-on-a-chalkboard not funny, because they were trying to be funny and failing:
- That loser-looking guy who wanted to be dating Jane but couldn't, who exists as a foil to Thor;
- Jane getting a phone call from loser guy when she's in the other realm;
- Selvig running around naked;
- Selvig concentrating better in his underwear;
- Selvig writing out incoherent equations, and then the old man saying "could I have my shoe back?";
- Darcy making out with her intern when she should be busy saving the universe;
- Jane taking time off from saving the universe and her boyfriend to watch Darcy make out with her intern;
- Thor taking time off from saving the universe to take a leisurely train ride, and that woman groping him;

*******

Aside, I didn't like the second after-the-credits scene being an after the credits scene. Thor joining Jane on Earth is a part of the film's narrative, and the romantic comedy aspects is one of the few components of this movie done decently and professionally, and that scene brings a sense of closure to developments in Thor 1 and Thor 2. It should have been part of the movie.

In contrast, Odin's face morphing into Loki's is not really part of this film's narrative, but a preview for Thor 3. That should have been an after-the-credits scene.

I guess a little gripe I had w/this movie & MOS is the dependency of human help as suppose to the comics that almost most of the time,the superheroes are the ones that solve the problems of a given situation (I guess I have to get use to that to the more grounded superhero movies).

BTW: going to see it again next wk.:oldrazz:

I really enjoyed this. They clearly focused on what people like from the first movie and expanded on that, which was for the most part a success.

A lot of people still don't stay for the after credits scene, so they would've missed that. The Collector scene isn't necessarily essential so that's why it works. An important scene like Loki doing what he did is because it's most likely going to be touched on a little since he won't be in the sequel.

I loved Thor: The Dark, there was only a few minor things that turned it away from a perfect score in my eyes. But dang was it good. Here's my review, be happy to chat with you about it in the comments section.

http://twodashstash.com/2013/11/thor-dark-world-review/

It was near perfect for me also. The people complaining and saying it looks like a tv show, ok...it looked better than the previous and The production and effects of Asgard was perfect. LotR style in many ways. The humor wasn't forced. Selvig was understandable, the guy had a god in his head. Nobody would be normal after that. This movie had emotion, depth, and also consequences...there wasn't billions of dollars of unnecessary collateral damage...half a million lives lost...and poorly developed characters.

Thats why Lokis disguises are a stupid plot device, his tricks are noticed when the script needs them to be noticed. And when its less convenient no one notices.

So apparently all it took for Loki to rule Asgard was do an easy shapeshifting spell. Thor can't recognize his father, no Asgardian can recognize their king, he coulda probably fooled Frigga as well. That kinda makes Loki the most powerful guy in the cosmos if he's able to take over Asgard like that.

Surely this thing won't carry much weight in the sequel as people will just ask "why didn't you do that before ?"

Hell, why go through all that Chitauri trouble when you can just shapeshift into the leaders of the U.S. and Russia and fire nukes at each other and call it a day.

They need to make it so that it puts a lot of strain on his body to maintain the shapeshift or something. Or that it messes with his mind. If I were a shapeshifter I would take over the world more efficiently than a bunch of Chitauri and spaceworms ever could.

As much as I loved Terminator 2 I had the same problem with that, how dumb was the T1000 to try and kill John Connor that way ? chasing after him like a psycho cop. Just turn into a regular Joe once you locate him and shank him at your convenience, of course he's gonna run from a cop ya big dummy.

My wife and I saw it this afternoon...we both loved it.

Came back from seeing it again. Still a damn entertaining movie, and it really didnt feel short to me at all. Just a very good fun movie

During the first scene where he's naked at Stonehenge, my friend said she actually felt a little depressed because it was this revelation that this brilliant scientist had lost his grasp on reality. She couldn't understand why everyone else was laughing.
