The Rise of Skywalker General Star Wars Episode IX News/Speculation Thread - Part 1

People weren't clamoring for it because they didn't know it existed. I for one am definitely disappointed this was killed by bean counters at Disney, despite everyone at Lucasfilm supporting it. A fantastic actor, one of the best directors working today, and solid screenwriters penning the script... I don't see what's not to like. It's certainly more exciting than the two films we're actually getting.

Is it though? Between this and Mandalorian and Grogu, I'll take Mandalorian and Grogu.

Different strokes, I guess. I never liked the show, and have little interest in seeing the movie. I'm actually surprised that Soderbergh was even involved with a studio movie like this, especially after his "retirement" from film a free years back.

I don't get all the anger and emotions about this canceled Ben Solo movie. Suddenly, everyone is acting like we were all wanting and demanding this movie after Rise of Skywalker. No one was.

I mean, the Reylos should be very obvious on why. And then you have those obsessed with bloodlines = families. And the pitch being reported on is being an air of quality we cannot be certain of.

I'm not a fan of how eugenics-oriented Star Wars became after the prequels. I'm all for moving on from the Skywalkers. But Adam Driver was one of the brighter spots of the sequel trilogy whose potential was never fully realized, so why not bring him back with a movie from an accomplished filmmaker. It's certainly a better option than the soulless, corporate products that Mando and Starfighter are destined to be.

Only if Mace can "return" too! :funny: Though now as the main villain/anti-hero:
Red Harvest-Yojimbo-ManWithNoName like - playing both sides the whole time, to get them to wipe each other out.
Mace: These MFs cut off my hand and threw me out a window?! Crazy cackling old man, his white boy slave, and now all their descendants going to pay!

Reveal Mace has been the Wormtongue ghost-whispering into the ear of Disney's failed, hopeless, regressive, betrays everything he learned and was Luke- Coercing Disney Leia into the least inspiring useless, slaphappy, now can't get anyone to follow her failure. And Disney Han into having nothing to offer but commit suicide by his own brat.

The whole time secretly whispering into to Kylo's head- Put on the black mask, you know you want it.
And Wizard of OZing behind the curtain, the ridiculous Snokes puppet, tormenting Rey - You can't escape who you are.

In the end, he peels off the Emperors face -Surprise MFrs! Grandpas always been dead, it's been me all along. This ain't over till I say it is.
Purple saber in the form of a sickle-blade emerges from his robot hand. As he now (using the force stolen female "thread") resurrects his greatest tool and apprentice- Kylo.

Dyad? They never told you? I'm your frikin Dyad now MFr!- Let's go kill that name stealing b....

I mean, Adam Driver is about as much of a box office draw as Jared Leto lol
Star Wars has never really been about who's starring in it, with maybe the only exception being The Force Awakens advertising that the original cast was coming back, particularly Harrison Ford. It's not like Felicity Jones and Diego Luna have ever been box office draws in their entire career but Rogue One still made a billion.

I think there would have been an audience for a Kylo Ren/Ben Solo movie.

While I agree with you in theory for the overall Star Wars saga, when the film itself is based predominantly on a particular character, yes it matters who’s headlining (ie Solo).

Solo was a bit of a different beast because audiences weren't all that keen on a Han Solo movie with no Harrison Ford while Driver has always played Ben/Kylo.

I'm still wrapping my head around Fincher wanting to direct a SW movie based on ST character. That is just wild to me and I wonder what that was.
