I've got a pair of 1986 World Series RC cans that have held up so far. Maybe the cans are a lot flimsier nowadays though.

I thought it was awesome.

And Faygo.

wouldn't shock me, they tend to want to cut costs everywhere. I also had to store half of my collection on there side so maybe that had something to do with it.. but if it ate through one portion it will eat through another eventually... id imagine.

Kind of disappointing, thought that they might have tried to use some new footage in the ads.

The cynic in me can't help but think there's a reason we're not getting new footage in the spots. I remember the new footage they showed in some of the Dragonball Evolution spots. They showed off the Goku in high school crap, easily the worst stuff in the entire film. I can't imagine seeing a spiky haired Justin Chatwin open up lockers with his ki and ride a bicycle sold any tickets. Better to show a couple of bits that we've already seen than something even worse...

see i didn't care for it all that much.. looked like michael bay did a superhero film... just wasn't superman to me.. that film has me alone worried for the entire new DCU.. i feel like they're grounding everything way too much... that's never been what DC comics has been about... imo

MICHAEL BAY....
:argh::fst:

Michael Bay has about zilcho heart in his movies, YES...YES....WAY TOO MUCH BUILDING DAMAGE, I'll give you that.

But MOS had TONS OF HEART, MORE HEART THAN ALL OF MICHAEL BAY'S FILMS PUT TOGETHER.

Cannot believe you just said Michael Bay...

BAYBAYBAYBAYBAYBAY lol

yes there was more heart (i'll also give you one with that) but... it was like Bay and Nolan working together... there's too much philosophical depth in one area which made it slow.. and then explosion and damage in the other... it just didn't feel like a balanced movie to me at all... it felt more on park with TDKR to me (which i absolutely hated).

I don't like my DC characters all brooding.. i like the fantasy... make me think there worlds are real.. don't shoe-horn them into our world to make it believable they'd exist in ours. where's the adventure? the wonder? the fantasy? the fun?

I want the fun... thus far there's no "fun" vibe coming off of anything from the DC Cinematic Universe... it's all "grounded and gritty" like this sad film... sure, you can make a good film that way.. but it still leaves the fans wishing they could get something more comic like someday as well... so it's a very double-edged sword... is it really worth doing these films if you have to change so much about them?

idk.. films like this and MOS and TDKR just feel kinda soulless to me... they are missing the charm that made them unique.

another example... I love the first 2 nolan films.. but i'd be lying if i said i didn't severly miss Tim Burtons 1930s-40s gotham city... take Nolan's characterizations and stories.. and apply them to Burton's fantasy... and that's the best possible batman for me. I feel like we can never merge things.. it's always trading one thing for another... blah....

end rant

didn't say it wasnt'.. but i also don't think it makes the film look good either.. (not bad, but not good)

...And I didn't SAY that you said it wasn't. I was just making conversation.

One thing that appears to be looking good according to the Twitterverse is this film!!! (via nameless people I ADMITTEDLY don't know, but who are known for somehow obtaining accurate inside info, especially leaking screening and trailer info that has been proven correct in the end)! Apparently the screening reviews are universally positive. I am looking forward to more rumors of good buzz!

and I'm still looking forward to it bombing... so hopefully my instincts are correct :) :ftc:

You lost me on the first part of your post, so I'll answer the main question.

I'm here because when I was around 5 years old around 1970, I started reading Fantastatic Four comic books and they enriched my life.

They transported me to other worlds and gave me fun stories of adventure. Every Tuesday I would go straight to the newsstand after school and see if there were any new FF's or Marvel Two-In-One or anything else that featured FF that I hadn't read yet.

In the mid seventies, when they were making TV shows of Spider-Man, Hulk, Dr. Strange etc. somebody wrote a letter to Stan's Soapbox and asked him if they would be making an FF TV show. He replied (paraphrasing) 'No, but we are looking into doing a big-budget FF theatrical release.'

From that day, the thought of seeing the FF in 'real life' on the big screen became something I hoped beyond hope to see.

But then things went stagnant.

By the early 90's, the fantasy film magazines of the time started reporting about a Roger Corman FF film. I was hoping for something bigger budget, but at least I would get something, and I thought it would be at least better than the Marvel TV shows.

So I bought every issue of Comics-2-Film and everything else I could find to get more details. Eventually photos started being released and for the first time, I saw 'The Thing' as something 'real'. Not the best, but it was something. In 1993, Roger Corman released a film called 'Carnosaur' and that film featured a trailer for the FF film, so I bought the VHS just for that trailer. Again, I wasn't thrilled with the quality, but I was still looking forward to finally seeing the FF on the big screen.

But then it never came.

I waited and waited but the film never showed up in theaters. Eventually I learned that the rights were being transferred and the film wouldn't be released. I was eventually able to buy a poor quality version on VHS, and while it wasn't a great film, it was the FF for the first time 'in the flesh', so I watched it several times.

Nearly 10 years later rumors started heating up about a new, big-budget FF film. By then, the internet was actually a thing, so I bookmarked sites and followed everything I could find. I created an account on Superhero Hype and began discussing the upcoming film with other people who were looking forward to it.

When we got our first glimpse of the Thing, I was disappointed. It didn't really look like the Thing, but other elements looked promising and I hoped he would look better on film. When we got the first trailer, I was over the top excited. It looked like the FF in a serious big-budget film. From there I anxiously counted the days until release.

When I actually saw it, I was a little disappointed, but it was still a decent film - and by far the best FF film I had ever seen, so I started hoping they would fix the problems in the sequel.

I again followed the sequel every step of the way and was pleased to see they had improved the look of the Thing. It looked like it might be a lot better, but when I showed up on opening day I was, again, disappointed - to the point that when Reed was dancing I felt almost physically ill and came very close to walking out.

And then, once again, things went dormant until Disney bought Marvel and the next day Fox announced a reboot.

SHH reopened the FF section and I rejoined with old friends to discuss our excitement over the new film. When Josh Trank was named as director, I was pleased. I had hoped they would have invested in a more experienced director, but for a young director, he seemed to have promise. There were also scripts reportedly being drafted by talented writers.

But things didn't go smoothly from there. We heard of script re-write after script re-write and eventually Jeremy Slater was named as the writer "Jeremy Slater? Who the hell is Jeremy Slater?" Around that time also rumors started heating up that it would be based on UFF, which was a big disappointment to me, but UFF still shared some elements with 616 so as long as they made the right choices it could still be made into a decent film that had the key elements I was looking for.

But when the cast was announced, that was a big disappointment - particularly Miles Teller. One of my biggest problems with the first film was that Reed was portrayed as an insecure geek instead of the strong, confident leader that Reed had always been.

More bad news followed leading up to the first trailer, but I was still very optimistic going in to that first trailer. We hadn't seen anything prior to that and if the production design was done right, we could still be getting a very good UFF/616 film.

But the first trailer was a huge disappointment to me. There was nothing even close to the FF in that first trailer and I began to lose hope.

But I tried to keep an open mind until the second trailer. And while the second trailer still didn't fix a lot of the problems I had, it at least showed characters interacting in a way that could be the FF.

So that trailer prevented me from losing all hope, but I have read a lot of things and heard a lot of rumors that have made me very pessimistic about the 99.5% of this film that we haven't yet seen. But since we haven't seen 99.5% of this film, there's no way I can be sure it's as bad as it looks so far and where there's uncertainty, there's hope.

So as long as there's that hope, I want to see more. I want to see some photos or hear some comments from those involved that convince me this film could have some of the elements I've been hoping to see for the past 45 years.

So I come in here every day - maybe every hour - to see if there's anything new and anything encouraging.

But instead of seeing anything new and anything encouraging, I see "X-Men, X-Men, X-Men" with a little bit of "Race, Race, Race" and some "Trank, Trank, Trank"

So I may be an idiot, but until I see enough to absolutely convince me that this film will not feature what I want to see, I will continue to check in and hope that I will see something that will give me hope.

Crap Willie, that sounds so close to how I grew up with the Fantastic Four and especially my favorite character of Ben Grimm. I've collected since about the same time as you, and can fondly remember every Tuesday (think that's when they were delivered) riding my bike cross town to hit all the local stores that sold comics for the latest issue.

My fondest wish to to finally see a Hulk vs. Thing battle on the big screen - my older brother is definitely in the Hulk's corner, and so we always had the arguments about who was better (Not stronger, since clearly they've made the Hulk the "strongest one there is").

I'm torn with this production. I could totally see a hard sci-fi take of a movie, and it looks like the Thing is going to be visibly on a par with the Hulk from the 2 Avengers movies.

But that's about all I can take from it. He doesn't look quite 'right'. The backstory changes to Ben, Reed, Sue and Johnny just don't click with me.

And of course I still can't grasp the need to make Doom a member of 'N-Zone exploratory team' and giving him powers, rather than using his own genius to create them.

I want so much for this to be a good Classic Fantastic Four movie, but this looks far from that.

And I'm not a Fox hater... I just realize that as long as Fox holds the cards for the Fantastic Four, I'll never see that Hulk vs. Thing fight that I've always dreamed of seeing.

Doom's too aloof to be a blogger and even if he chose to do so he wouldn't hide behind an alias.

Even if Doom did run a webpage for the benefit of sharing his wisdom and greatness with Latveria and the world, he would never call it a "blog". It'd be an "online collection of essays" or some such. Definitely no comment sections: while Doom would certainly wish his people to discuss and contemplate Doom's wisdom, such dialogues no more belong attached to the essay than hand-penciled notes belong in a first edition book.

( And don't think for a second that Doom isn't monitoring the venues where Latverians *do* discuss his words and deeds, though he's probably less prone to randomly punishing the insufficiently-enthusiastic than the average dictator. If they do not fully appreciate Doom's wisdom, that simply marks them as being lessers, which Doom knows already. )

I saw an advanced test screening of Fantastic Four. There's not much I can say, but I liked it. The movie takes the source material seriously but the heart and personality of the team is prevalent, and the actors gave great performances. Michael B. Jordan is the standout. Doom was better then I expected.

If fans can leave expectations at the door and accept some of the changes made in the movie, I think people will be happy. Fantastic Four captures the essence of the comics. The reasons that we love the team for is what makes the film work.

I'm curious if say: TDK, TWS, Spider-Man 2 is a 5. X-Men:FC, Thor, Begins is a 4. Iron Man 2, Spider-Man 3 are 3. X-Men: The Last Stand, FF (2004) are 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Elektra are 1.

Which group would you put this FF movie?

I have to confess, I love "Man of Steel" probably #1 on my CB movie list.

Same Here!

Totally Agree!

Kal-El in that film was always conflicted and it was easy to see. It adds to his character and made him interesting.

Good to hear that. Gabriel Gray on twitter also seems to have enjoyed it and said the same thing about MBJ. He thought the film was "quite epic". But he didn't say anything about Doom.

The current rumor at Bleeding Cool suggests that Marvel will continue to pull much of the Fantastic Four's exposure in materials they control throughout the promotional window of this film, possibly including the home release.

Fantastic Four would be a 4. It feels reminscent of X-Men: First Class. It is a pretty good origin story and sequels should benefit from already having the characters and their relationships firmly established.

good. it sucks for us fans.. but it really is a smart buisness move on their part... that way eventually... when the rights revert... they can make a big "to do" about the First Family returning

I am not surprised to hear that. It feels the same as it did before FC came out. New actors new direction.

Excited to hear the positive reactions from those who have seen it.

Looks like those who are open to the changes really have something to look forward to.

Basically. I liked Fantastic Four because it was a fresh retelling. If I'm honest, I prefer the movie to the comics.

There's definitely a film rights thing here, that's for sure. I don't think it's a coincidence that if you want to continue reading Johnny's story you need to read an Inhumans book (all the better to prep you for that Marvel Studios Inhumans movie), Sue's joining S.H.I.E.L.D. (oh hey, Marvel Studios makes a show about them!), and Ben's going to Guard the Galaxy with Rocket Raccoon (whattaya know, there's a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel on the way!).

That certainly sounds encouraging

oh definitely.. it all makes perfect sense for the company

Fantastic Four really resonated with me. I almost want to say I liked it better than Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I need to watch the movie again.

Yeah, we read that the first time you posted it, before you deleted it... for the sake of posting it again. Got it.
