Personally I think it exposes Carnahan as just another fanboy. His words could easily have come from some posters on the Hype and you wouldn't know the difference. It's a cheap argument and one people here have time and again said they wouldn't want, but that doesn't seem to stop it coming up like clockwork.

Is there a reason why there was no Stan Lee cameo when he did cameo in the 2 previous FF movies, not than Stan could have saved the movie, just curious why they decided not to use him especially since he loves the Fantastic Four more than most of his other creations.

Even Weasel is crapping on Doom

I think Carnahan's comments are a bit much, but he's not exactly wrong.

The trolls DID have it in for Trank. So did non-trolls.

And a lot of fans would probably have embraced an approach like this or at least given it more of a chance if a director like Chris Nolan had been behind it.

Embracing the dark tone is one thing with Nolan involved, but the final product speaks for it self. Also, this is not the first time Carnahan has used Nolan to make a dumb comparison. He said something like '' If Nolan had pitched (Stretch) Carnahan's straight to vod movie, he would be given 100million or so. Lol.

I didn't have an issue with FF having a darker tone, others do and that's their business but that wasn't my issue. I just wanted a good film that didn't seem like it had distain for the comic book.

Oh so Joe is just extremely jealous of Nolan, gotcha.

I got to be perfectly honest, I disagree 100 percent with Carnahan. If it was Nolan...I doubt I would like the movie either.

Love Joe Carnahan as a director, but him as a director seems like a self important "Things arent the way they used to be. Hollywood sucks and I dont play that crap" type guy. I used to follow him on Twitter but all he does is use it to b***h so I unfollowed him.

Still love him as a director though.

To be fair, I did like his pitch for Daredevil.

It's sad for Superhero movies in general, hopefully it doesn't sour the general public.

I wouldn't worry about that. If it were Age of Ultron or Batman v. Superman that got completely trashed by critics, it might be a different story. But this one always had a lower profile other than the behind-the-scenes drama that only the fan community and studio insiders really seemed to be following. Most fans weren't getting their hopes up for this and it's not like the general audience was as excited about this as something like Jurassic World. Daredevil didn't sour people from seeing X2. Green Lantern didn't sour people from seeing The Dark Knight Rises. My point being, general audiences don't care if something like this crashes and burns. They just ignore it and wait for the next superhero film from a tried and true franchise, or a new one that gets decent reviews.

As Patton Oswalt has said before, dark and gritty is fine if the character is dark and gritty.

Look at Daredevil, very dark and gritty. Not a ton of humor. Despite the fact that it takes place within the greater MCU and that there are some hints at supernatural stuff, the whole show takes a pretty grounded and realistic approach. We all loved it. For Daredevil, that style works because Daredevil became relevant when it went in this direction.

If it were a Dr. Doom solo movie then dark could probably work.

FOX takes off their dirty panties for the first time in 6 months and sniffs them,

''Is this what you want Marvel?!'' Arghhhhhh!

I think F4 is too much of a goofy property turn dark and gritty. This whole project was ****ed from the start.

I wouldn't say goofy but dark 'n gritty definitely doesn't suit it. The themes of Interstellar fit it kinda well in the exploration side of things. I loved this quote:
We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.
This is like post-NASA kinda stuff. When the wonder and importance of space exploration is lost. My ideal Fantastic Four movie would be a mix of Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Dark Star, Interstellar, and Gravity all with flavor of Guardians.

I checked this film out yesterday. I don't care what the critics say, this film does not deserve the universal hate its getting. It feels like some people just want to pile on. Perhaps some have been waiting for a comic movie flop to just pull out the knives and go stab happy with. FF is the unfortunate victim.

It's not a great film, the Story films are better (and I also think the Story films get too much hate), but its a decent comic book origin movie. Granted it could've been a little bit longer. Perhaps the last third of the film is rushed to get to the climatic battle and they needed perhaps more of a breather between the first and third acts.

But the cast was fine, the FX were okay, I thought Doom felt like a real threat, Dr. Franklin Storm was a weighty character.

I didn't care for the containment suits. Wish they had went more with traditional looking suits. Also think the movie lacked humor and character relationships.

Star Trek would be a good way to go.

Reed should be a mixture of Kirk and Spock. The intelligence and logic of Spock but the gung-ho leader like Kirk who isn't afraid to get physical against his enemies. Maybe throw in some Captain Picard in there.

And Ben would be more like McCoy - more cantankerous and grouchy, but still has a sense of humour.

And Johnny would be like Chekov - youthful and brash.

Ben and Johnny's interactions would be somewhat similar to Spock and McCoy's bickering.

Sue would be... a cross between Uhura, I guess, and Alice Eve's Carol Marcus.

And Khan would be a decent model for Doom: arrogant, self-important, has a superiority complex, brilliant minded etc. But obviously it wouldn't be the only basis for him.

9%.
I thought for certain it would drop below 6%.
