Fant4stic Fantastic Four 2?

Okay, i finally got around to seeing this and i must admit it's not as bad as people have made it out to be. It's on HBO OnDemand, so i'm wondering if the cut that is there is the same cut that was in theaters? Again, i ask because while it wasn't a great movie, it was no where near a bad as i had been lead to believe all this time…..

If the one you saw had a story that was vaguely interesting and had any sense of drama and if the characters were at all likable and intriguing and if there were any exciting moments, then, yeah, they must have altered it drastically.:cwink:

Based on the story, I agree. It's just hard to get past the low budget and generally cheesy appearance, bad acting, cheap props, bad effects etc. that come with that.

I absolutely believe that if a talented director started with the Corman script and a $100 million budget, we'd get a movie FAR better than anything we've seen from Fox.

If Corman had any type of budget and the effects we had today then while still being insane, it would be the best of the ones we have now.

A resounding NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just let the rights go back to MARVEL. They already destroyed any good will this thing could have when they puked out the first turd.

Finally got around to watching FF (2015) and while it wasn't horrible, I can say this. Enough with origin stories. Same reason the Spiderman reboots fail. You're retelling the same story with only minor twists. We already know the origin. Just jump into it and roll. When FF returns to Marvel in 9 years, I hope Marvel just dives in head-first and does FF vs Galactus, regardless of who the cast is. We don't need to see how Ben and Reed became friends, or how they all got their powers.

This reboot statement goes for all of them. QUIT re-telling the Origin.

I agree but to an extent. While I liked the way they introduced Spider-Man in Civil War, they should introduce the Fantastic Four in the same likes as The Incredible Hulk; They tell the Origin Story during the intro-credits. A Superhero's origins are an important part of why the hero is the way they are, both physically, mentally, and emotionally. Even though they're going to start Spider-Man off a year or so out from his origin, they're still going to talk about it and reference it because it IS important. It's all in how they do it; intro-credits, flashbacks, or a simple verbal retelling. If they're going to keep skipping over origin films, then they need to keep it creative as to retelling just how they became who/what they are.

In the Superman animated series, they had his origin told in the credits in the space of less than a minute. They could do the same for the FF. They even featured a little of theirs in the "World's Greatest Heroes" cartoon intro.

Actually, the first Three episodes of that series covered his origin in great detail. The first episode took place entirely on Krypton while the second episode focused on his life in Kansas. And the third episode he's finally in Metropolis as Superman.

The actual origin in FF#1 was only about 2 or 3 pages told in flashback. The rest was fun and adventure.

That's the problem with these films. They don't capture the elements of the comic books that made them work.

I can't think of a single comic-book character that I discovered by starting with the origin and working forward. Usually I pick up issue # 148 or something and think "this is interesting". Then I'll find other issues. Eventually I'll learn the origin, but that's rarely, if ever, key to enjoying the stories.

What about this:
The 4 are introduced in another heroe's movie. Maybe one of the Avengers ones.
In the 3rd act of said film, an accident happens in which the 4 are involved because Reed is helping solve the existing threat with his super science, and the other 3 are with him to lend a hand.
The movie can either end with the question of them having died but helped save the Earth, or showing them as having survived but unconscious and in intensive medical care.
Then that spins off to their own movie where they are "healthy" and discover their powers and begin their adventures.

Producer Simon Kinberg on Plans for a ‘Fantastic Four’ Sequel
To put it mildly, the Fantastic Four reboot did not pan out.
MATT GOLDBERG said:
Steve Weintraub recently spoke to writer-producer Simon Kinberg for Logan and asked if there’s any chance of seeing an alternate cut of Fantastic Four:
SIMON KINBERG: I don’t know the answer to that in terms of whether or not fans will ever see it. I think B-roll is probably the place where they will see it. And for us, it’s in the past in the sense of lessons learned and we would love to make another Fantastic Four movie. We really believe in that cast, and I think the lessons that we learned would help us make a more consistent movie than we did the first time.
That leads to the question of whether or not Fox has to keep making Fantastic Four movies in order to hold on to the rights. Kinberg replied:
KINBERG: I have no idea. I think the truth is we would not make another Fantastic Four movie until it was ready to be made. One of the lessons we learned on that movie is that we want to make sure we get it 100% right, because we will not get another chance with the fans.
To be blunt, while the reboot does have a talented cast, I think audiences don’t want to keep seeing Fantastic Four movies in the vein of a gritty, realistic take of teenagers who get superpowers. While I appreciate Kinberg’s desire to make sure they get a sequel right, I’m willing to bet that the next time we see a Fantastic Four movie, it will be with a different cast and a completely different approach.

SIMON KINBERG: I don’t know the answer to that in terms of whether or not fans will ever see it.

Well, you see, Mr Kinberg, there's a thing called 'money' - and most of us aren't willing to spend it on A PILE OF THE BROWN STUFF.

No, I'll stick to seeing decent blockbusters at the cinema like Jurassic World and the LEGO movies thank you very much.

I don't see how a sequel to that garbage is possible.
MBJ is now in the MCU, Black Panther is likely to be incredible. I am not sure Kilmonger will die in it which means he may return.

I don't see Teller wanting to do that again either. They know how bad the movie was received and how poorly ran the project was.

Toby Kebbell who played Doom said he himself has no intrest in being in a sequel

There isn't any need for them to have another origin story.

If Marvel ever got the rights they should bring in Fantastic Four like they have with Spiderman. Have Stark make a reference to Reed Richards or show him watching the news of their news of their return from space or the first use of their powers in public.

Yeah. Your chances have already been spent, friend.

^^^ exactly this
People who care already know the backstory; there's no need to waste time filling in the people who don't.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that before the second Infinity Wars is done we'll have at least heard either Reed Richards or Victor Von Doom's name mentioned.

Amen again.

Who are the contenders these days in fan casting?

And what are the real chances that Fox will hand over the rights? It is kind of crazy how they stubbornly refuse to hand it over.

Isn't it costing them more money than they could possibly make back?

I imagine we'll get a Phase Four lineup sometime next year. Hopefully we'll get good news around that time.

If I were setting Vegas odds, I'd guess something like:

Chances of Fox making a new FF movie before reversion date: 2%

Chances of Fox making a Silver Surfer movie before reversion date: 5%

Chances of Fox and Marvel making a Sony-type deal before reversion date: 36%

Chances of Marvel making a deal to get the rights outright before reversion date: 30%

Chances of nothing happening and rights quietly reverting in in 2022 when Fox fails to begin production by deadline: 27%

I have the following:

Chances of Fox and Marvel making a Sony-type deal before reversion date: 5%

Chances of Marvel making a deal to get the rights outright before reversion date: 80%

It seems odd to me that Fox wouldn't try to get "something" for FF. Maybe Marvel is playing hardball and isn't willing to give up practically anything.

This is why I don't feel as comfortable as I would like to be that a simple, straightforward deal will happen.

Fox could be stubborn or Marvel could be stubborn and it could break down on either side. Marvel could be to the point they've just decided: "F*** it. We've got enough on our plate and they'll never make another FF film, so we'll just wait them out and not make another offer."

This is a film which will never happen. Fox had three chances to get it right and failed with all of them.

Give the rights back to Marvel so we can get this as Phase 4

2020

Late Winter/Early Spring - Fantastic Four (Origin story - Annihilus as villain. Reed and Sue already married at beginning. Annihilus defeated by shooting him through wormhole where he survives but it far away from Earth.)

May - Iron Man: Armor Wars (Zeke Stane, Spymaster, Sasha Hammer and Ghost as villians. Mashup of Armor Wars, Iron Monger and The Five Nightmares. Includes fights with War Machine and Captain America. Tony injects himself with a modified Extremis virus and the film ends with Tony exploding. Reference to how Extremis can make Tony appear fifteen years younger if it doesn't make him explode. Post credits feature Jim Rhodes getting a new suit of War Machine armor.)

Late Summer - Hulk: Ground Zero (Leader and Half-Life as villains. Hulk survives Gamma Bomb out in Nevada desert which causes him to further mutate into a mean-spirited grey Hulk with Banner's intelligence and Hulk's strength. Hulk becomes Mobster named Joe Fixit. Joe Fixit becomes mobster. Betty begins searching for Hulk. Rick and Marlo introduced.)

Holiday - Captain America: The Captain (Steve Rogers is removed from the role of Captain America by the military who christen John Walker the new Captain America who takes Steve's spot in the Avengers. Steve Rogers now goes by the name Nomad and has to stop Flag Smasher on his own with only Falcon at his side.)

Unspecified Date - Silver Sable (Viper and HYDRA as villains. A bounty hunter fights urban terror across the globe. Sony spin-off but canon.)

2021

Late Winter/Early Spring - Black Widow (Kestrel as villain. A young girl is kidnapped and that leads Tasha back to Russia where she must confront her past and untangle a conspiracy involving a cosmetics company and what it has to do with Russian intelligence. Winter Soldier and Hawkeye assist her.)

May - Guardians of the Galaxy: Annihilation (Annihilus threatens the entire Kree Empire with certain destruction from the entire combined forces of the Negative Zone. The Guardians must save it.)

Late Summer - Spider-Man: Venom (Assuming that the second film features the black costume, this is Venom's revenge.)

Holiday - Thor: The Dark Gods (Perrikus as villain)

2022

Late Winter/Early Spring - Black Panther: Doomwar (Doom as villain. Latveria invades Wakanda and T'Challa must stop Doom.)

May - Captain Marvel: Ascension (Ghazi Rashid as villain. Carol Danvers fights a terrorist mastermind from her time as an air force pilot.)

Late Summer - Ant-Man 3 (Not sure who the villain is in the second film. Crossfire, Egghead or Whirldwind should be the bad guy.)

Holiday - War Machine: Dragon Seed (The Mandarin makes his real, full appearance as Jim Rhodes heads to China to defeat him, Fin Fang Foom and an army of alien dragons to save China from being conquered. Alive and recasted Tony Stark appears in third act but should be kept out of all promotional materials and not even his actor should be leaked to the press.)

Unspecified Date - Venom: Lethal Protector (Eddie Brock finds redemption in fighting the Life Foundation's symbiotes. Post-credits shows that Brock's old cellmate also has a symbiote. Rated R.)

2023

Late Winter/Early Spring - Black Knight (No big bad but multiple minor villains in flashbacks. Nathan Garrett has led a life of crime and on his deathbed grants his nephew the Ebony Blade while telling the story of all Dane Whitman's ancestors who have wielded and been corrupted by the sword and urging him to never use it for evil.)

May - Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage (Carnage as villain. Spider-Man and Venom must join forces to stop a greater enemy.)

Holiday - Avengers: Kang Dynasty (A villain has conquered the entire world within a single day using time travel and the Avengers must stop him. With his dying breath, Kang unmakes reality. Post credits shows that the Avengers are still alive but on another world... one where Iron Man is tracking something in the distance that's made of metal and closing in fast. Namely... Wolverine since Fox should be doing a similar film featuring the X-Men universe dying off.)

2024

May - Secret Wars: Part 1 (Beyonder as villain. Released by Fox.)

Late Summer - Secret Wars: Part 2 (Doctor Doom as villain. Released by Disney)

That's my ideal Phase 4. Something that really brings the FF into the MCU and does some very interesting things with Doom, Kang and Annihilus (and Blaastar as a henchman in Guardians 3.) Then end it with a deal to collaborate on the biggest film of all time with the single largest cast of any film ever in two parts filmed as one. That's what I'd do.
