Favorite Transformer

I loved Optimus (or else I wouldn't own 6 versions of him), but Rodimus was my true favorite Autobot leader followed closely by Fortress Maximus. They were just more powerful and more human than Optimus. Rodimus especially, they also had better supporting casts IMO. Springer, Magnus, Kup, adult Spike, the Technobots, Grimlock, Blaster and Perceptor made for a very interesting and diverse supporting cast. Also Rodimus commanded a much bigger alliance of Autobots, and in Transformers ensemble nature the bigger the cast the better.

I always liked the ones that transformed into Dinosaurs
The Dinobots, Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Swoop (originally named Divebomb), and Snarl

I've been told if I applied my knowledge and, passion toward other things like I do for Star Wars, comics, toys and video games I'd be more successful. :(

Someone lied to you. :(

They're probably right. I mean I love these things but I try to diminish their importance in my life.

For anyone interesting TFCog.net is doing a series of fan dubs on Masterforce, Victory, Headmasters (coming soon!), Beast Wars Neo and the II...they are okay, some voices are better than others...but its decent

I'll do my Decepticon group shot next....the teams are about even, I collected them so I'd always have the Decepticon counterpart (for the most part, I still lack Needlenose, Decepticon Targetmasters)

That was the one thing about transformers that bothered me was the the varying heights between some of them.

I wanted Optimus to be able to fight Galvatron but Galvatron was huge.

Yes I know there was a headmaster Optimus.

If any of you Transformers-collecting doofuses are looking for a mint-in-unopened-box Ultra Magnus from 1985, I'm getting ready to post one on ebay for some friends.

But to answer the "favorite Transformer" question ... that's really tough.

Conceptually I liked Grimlock the Dinobot just because robot T-Rexes rule, but he wasn't really a "robot in disguise".

As far as toy quality and overall coolness of Transformation, I'd say Jetfire (AKA the VF-1S from Macross).

As far as characterization in the cartoon and great robot-form design, I'd go with Shockwave.

All of the above are G1 versions of course.

I always liked Soundwave, his voice and the tapes kicked more ass than a one-legged donkey with a jumping disorder.

No brainer: Optimus Prime

Powermaster. And only in the comics was that Optimus, in the cartoon it was a separate and distinct individual named "Ginrai" i.e. God Ginrai

He was released in 1986, unless he is the diaclone version released prior to Transformers (different color scheme)

And Jetfire was Jetfire before they leased that mold out to Macross, who now owns the rights to it. Thats why fans are very anxious that neo G1 line feature a toon accurate Jetfire.

Well the Transformers Ultra Magnus box says 1985 right on the back, regardless of whenever it might have been released. I'm looking at the scan of it right now.

If you're refering to the G1 Jetfire toy and not the cartoon version (Skyfire), then you're quite wrong.

The Macross anime (AKA first generation Robotech in the US) came out in Japan in 1982. Later that same year, the toy transforming Valkyries were released in Japan by a company called Takatoku. These toys were the same mold as the Jetfire toy, but without the snap-on thrusters and armor. Bandai ended up taking over Takatoku soon after, and the Valkyries that were released after the 1984 Macross movie came out in Japan were all made by Bandai. This is the toy that was slightly modified to be the Jetfire toy in the US in 1985.

So the Takatoku VF-1S Valkyrie toy from Macross came first, not the Hasbro-distributed Bandai version sold in the US as Jetfire.
