Not that it’s surprising but it’s sickening how the right has quickly looked to politicize Mollie Tibbetts murder but whenever a gun massacre occurs we shouldn’t do the exact same thing.

Since when is "he wouldnt have gotten caught if you hadn't investigated someone he knew." a valid defense? That's some scooby doo BS, right there. If a person committed a crime they committed a crime. It shouldn't matter a bit that they were only caught because of another investigation.

This is why I hate the "jury of your peers." I wonder how many jurors actually understood half of the charges. When it comes to white collar crime, there's a reason why it's perpetuated by educated people. It's not as easy as pointing a gun and demanding cash.

I think a juror who is a Trump supporter could easily dismiss the evidence because they don't understand it. Maybe fill the jury with accountants and tax lawyers and then see what the result is.

if it was one juror blocking 10 counts... why didn't the Judge go with a majority verdict?

This is extremely arrogant thinking.

That woman juror was an attention hoe, she will milk this for all its worth. It should be made a rule & law before any court proceedings that the jurors will sign an agreement that they shall not seek any personal gain/compensation after a trial.

Why?

I have been watching CNN and MSNBC all morning and it has been so funny. Trump freaking out about people flipping, saying it shouldn't be allowed. :lmao:

No, it isn't. Most other common law countries, such as Canada, the UK, and the rest of the Commonwealth, have all but eliminated jury trials, specifically in the area of complex financial and business matters, because a jury does not possess the capacity to deal with it and adjudicate fairly. The US is stuck in the Middle Ages with its love affair with trials by jury.

However, we also don't elect judges, which is frankly barbaric, and our judicial appointment systems are much more non-partisan.

If Trump fires Sessions but not Rosenstein, Rosenstein become Attorney General and then the Senate/Democrats can block/delay whoever gets nominated by Trump for AG. If Sessions and Rosenstein get fired, then the next person in line takes over.

Trump is rubbing his finger on that button to fire Sessions right now, thinking it will help him versus weighing the cost.

He wants to be a dictator, making up his own rules to suit himself.

Yeah, I just saw that.

Just another reason why he went on that rant about "flipping". Can't wait for his "snitches get stiches" twitter post.

Trump is a gangster so he talks and tweets like one. He called Nixon White House Counsel John Dean a 'rat' and said it's great that Manafort didn't 'break' like Cohen for the prosecutors recently.

Also I might have been hallucinating this morning, but did I see a story about how he is freaking out about South Africa taking back land from white citizens?

Yes, yes he is. Pretty much falling for the white supremacists version of the stories.

Sen. Graham is now on board for replacing Sessions, though after the midterms obviously. I think the GOP is starting to get scared, with 2 Reps indicted for campaign finance violations, and the results of Manafort trial #1 and Cohen, who was the RNC Finance Chair, pleading guilty and making noise about cooperating.

So everyone is going to be very poor if Trump gets impeached?

Keep in mind, juries don't decide matters of law, they decide matter of fact. So a juror doesnt have to have knowledge of accounting rules or tax regulations to be effective, they just have to decide for instance did event A occur before event B, which based on the judge's direction is a violation. If they find that event A occurred first based on the testimony and evidence, then they decide that the defendant is guilty because that is what the law states.

Now whether or not they can get past inherent biases and admit if something factually goes against their beliefs or preconceived notions, that's an entirely other thing. But the attorneys should be weeding those types out in the jury selection process.

Trump is itching to fire Sessions again.

I'd imagine an unemployed Sessions would have a lot of free time to say.... talk to Bob Mueller?

One of my favorites from the morning. Clearly a big reason he is losing it.

Trumpy should call on his Russian friends to take care of some of these guys who have yet to turn against him in court. Maybe the Russians will figure out that Trumpy was a bad investment and try to frame him. This is a worst case scenario of how things could go with Trumpy and his Russian allies.

Many Mob Bosses were taken down by his subordinates who flipped on them, and eventually it will happen to Trump because he’s a Mob Boss himself. Remember that it was Al Capone’s accountant who helped brought the most infamous gangster to jail.

Al Capone: "I've been spending the best years of my life as a public benefactor. I've given people the light pleasures, shown them a good time. And all I get is abuse." (December 1927)
