Fede Alavarez to direct Dr Strange movie?

What's weird about this is I was reading some reviews of Evil Dead earlier and thought he might be a good fit for Dr. Strange.

This being the era of fake denials, I have to CYA on scoops these days so I straight up asked them on twitter and of course they didn’t respond. Now if they come out and deny, it’s not like they weren’t given an opportunity to respond.

I can't believe he printed a story about him sending a tweet about gossip he heard and not getting a response.

Really tired of el mayimbe's need for attention.

He's getting desperate. He used to be on top but so many other websites with sources have come about that he's being left in the dust.

Watching one of his videos...he's a *****e bag anyways, I hope studios start giving him hell for leaking more than he should...if he luckily happens to get a scoop that's accurate in the future.

I agree. However, if MS/Fiege chose this guy to direct a Dr. Strange movie I'd totally defer to their judgment.

He was right about Momoa being in the running for Drax and also right about Bautista being the lead candidate for Drax after Momoa, and another writer on LR was right about both the St-Pierre casting and Redford casting, so I'm going to assume there is some legitimacy to this.

This is kinda like a Josh Trank/Chronicle/FF-reboot thing then. Because this guy only has 1 film to his credit. Pretty thin in both cases if you ask me, no matter how good their sole film debuts were. But if it turns out to be true and Fiege thinks he can do it then I'll shut my mouth and trust his pick.

He tweeted Momoa was officially Drax and to "remember where you heard it first!" Then Bautista got cast. I don't doubt that he may be right on some occasion but as of late it's been 50/50. He did get Redford as Pierce I think though...But all this about needing to brag about "meetings" or "out of this world scoops!" only gets peoples hopes up and can get annoying. Especially when not true.

Well what I want to know is what do you guys who saw the new Evil Dead movie think about the idea of Alvarez doing the movie? I can't really have an opinion since I didn't see the movie(and likely never will since I don't like horror movies).

Since Marvel likes out of the box thinking in regards to who they pick to helm their movies I can say that if they did pick this guy it shouldn't be a suprise to anyone at this point.

Bro, he was the first to put out Bautista was in the runnings and was the number 1 pick after Momoa. And he was right about the Momoa situation, he just jumped the gun because he thought it was a sure thing with how well his screening went over with Marvel. He didn't expect him and his agent to turn down the role because of money.

So in reality, he was never wrong, he spoke too soon, and then still got the casting right after Momoa dropped out...which, again, we know as fact happened. I'm not a Mayimbe or LR fan, just look at it objectively and he and LR have a good track record especially as of late with Marvel news.

Yeah I know he put out that Bautista was in the running but didn't understand why he confirmed Momoa got the role. Now I do. :awesome:

Again, I don't doubt when and if he's right because I have no idea how all that works and I'm aware of his track record. You summed it up perfectly though - I'm just not a fan of the guy. Heh. :o

El Mayimbe needs to get his shiz together, but he's no a phony. There's most likely some legitimacy to this, but at the same time, he makes it hard for people to believe him.

Alvarez + Disney = Doctor Strange

I think he could add the right amount of wide-eyed gristle to a film that's to be made for family fun.

I'm in.

I can't wait for El Maybe's big scoop tomorrow: "Fede Alvarez May NOT Be Directing Dr. Strange!!"

This guy is an attention ****e. No more and no less.

I will say, even though I doubt very much anything will come of this "scoop," if Alvarez DID end up with the gig, I wouldn't be against it. Evil Dead wasn't anything amazing, but his direction was very good, imo.

THR actually first broke the Redford casting, after which others chimed in. Redford himself confirmed it in an interview that was reported by the LA Times.

One reason for el maybe's anti-Marvel jihad is that they went after him last year for reporting that GotG had been greenlit before the studio had a chance to announce it at SDCC. He's been working scoops for years yet acted shocked and offended when the studio came after him and started trying to dry up his sources. From his desperate flailing Marvel seems to have done a good job of patching its leaks. Watching el maybe ruin his own credibility has probably amused Marvel's security people greatly.

This has kind of been the trend for many superhero movies of late: Favreau, Whedon, Marc Webb, Alan Taylor, the Brothers Russo, Gunn, Trank... they all had little to no film directorial experience at the time they were hired. Part of this that for Marvel Studios, it's been their MO to hire "outside the box" directors with potential for their projects. Webb and Trank could very well have been Sony and Fox following suit. At any rate, if this rumor is true, it isn't surprising to me.

Although when I read "Evil Dead Director Hired for Doctor Strange?", I immediately got excited that Sam Raimi might be attached, and I was subsequently disappointed.

I'm talking about who Redford was actually playing. They were the ones who said his character would be named "Pierce", along with their Batroc scoop.

Why? Your giving him credit for being right, even when he's wrong. The guy is spamming all the obvious tricks for pretending to knowledge he doesn't have. He's as legitimate as a psychic magician act.
