First Batman Experience

Being the old fart here, My first memories of Batman are early sixties, when my mom brought home a bunch of comics from the drugstore (back when that's about the only place you could get them), which included a Batman comic, one look at the cool costume he was wearing, and I was hooked. Other fond memories were when I later went to a friends house and saw the first episode of the Batman TV show, and much later, the opening scene in Batman '89.

Glad to see another old fart around (I'm 52)....I too started reading comics in the early 60's. My parents bought me various comics at first, but Batman was among them. When the Adam West Tv show started, I got to go over to a friends house and watch it (he had a color TV, ours was still only B/W) and I loved it (I have all the series on DVD and still watch it...my daughter loves the show now).

Woah! That's great Lee. It still cracks me up when I ever watch Batman 60s show. It's still entertaining.

I was 10 years old and remember the line stretching around the block at my local theater for Batman, back in 89'. I had no real interaction with the character before then, just on "Superfriends" (I was an Aquaman fan before this). I remember the theater growing dark with the capacity crowd going silent. The lights dimmed and I remember that there were no trailers with this film for some reason. The audience was whooping and hollering with excitement, then the WB logo appeared. The excellent (and to this date my favorite superhero theme) Danny Elfman theme began and at this point I, became entranced by the dark world of Batman. The moment Keaton's Batman flared open his cape during the rooftop scene, I knew this was something special. I never have or had been this excited for a superhero film in my young life. After the movie had been out of theaters, I remember the VHS promotions for the home video release. I saved up my allowance to get the $15.00 tape (I had the rebate coupon) at the local video store. Now the local store was a good 4 miles from my house, and at the time we had a big snowfall in my town. I do believe it was about December when the home video release came out. So I bundled up and I trudged the 4 miles in the snow, with no snow boots (a big wet and soggy mistake in hindsight). I get to the store and guess what, they were sold out. I was so pissed when I slowly trudged my way back home, during a fresh snowfall. For about two weeks afterwards it was all I could think about, then Christmas came. I'll tell you that when I opened that package on Christmas day, it was the best present I can ever remember getting. Since that day I always get that tinge of excitement when a new Batfilm gets released, it's like I'm ten years old all over again.

The earliest memory of first seeing a Batman tidbit was for Batman and Robin on the Big Breakfast. The scene where Batman slides down Dinosaur neck and kicks Freeze.

"Hi,Freeze. Im Batman".

Imagine Bale saying that to Falcone.

"Hi, Falcone. Im Batman".

For me, it all started with Batman: The Animated Series when I was a kid. I used to watch that show religiously, bought the toys, dressed up as Batman for Halloween, etc. And from there, there was no going back. The Caped Crusader remains my favourite superhero to this very day, & I don't see that ever changing.

Burton's Batman, The Animated Series, and the 60's show lead to my Batman and comic obsession.

I first started as a Superman fan through the Christopher Reeve movies and watching Superfriends and the Adam West Batman intoduced me to the Dark Knight which of course didn't exactly portray Bats as a cool superhero.

But as my interests were juggling between Star Wars, G.I.Joe, Transformers by that time Superman was becoming lame and Superman 4:The Quest For Peace pretty much sealed the deal on him.

And so around 1987 I happened upon some Batman reprints and I was hooked from then.

i watched tim burton's batman films repeatedly as a child. they're pure magic at a young age.

but after schumacher's films, i felt embarrassed to be a fan and mostly forgot about the character, viewing it as childish. truly a dark time to be a batman fan.

however, batman begins reinvigorated my batman obsession and i was once again proud to be a fan. and the dark knight really did bring it all back big time.
