Comics First Look at new team designs for upcoming adjectiveless X-men team

I like Chris' work...though I will admit he was probably better back during the early days of Gen X...his work does have a "where's waldo" effect to it, but compared to a lot of other artists I've seen, he's doin' his thing.

I just wish he'd keep his thing away from the X-Men. His art style just does not fit with them. Same thing when I hated Immonen on Ultimate X-Men. His style just did not fit with the tone of the book. It is too toony. But I like what he does on Nextwave, because that book is less serious and more fun. Similar thing with Bachalo. His stuff is too much of a toon-like mess, and it doesn't fit with the tone of the X-men.

I love Bachalos work it's different than every one elses, which i think make it great and if you can't the characters in that pic then you are blind. THe only thing i don't like is that there are many characters that i've never seen before.

Bachalo`s work is nothing compaired to Larocca`s IMHO

Looks okay, still don't dig this new line-up. What's with Rogue wearing a cape? Kinda looks campy...

I kinda like the character designs, but that scene is way too busy. It looks like he cut & pasted each character in there with PS and forgot to give any depth to the scene. There isn't enough of a lean or angle to some of them which makes it all look very flat to me.

The way Aurora is intertwined with Sabertooth looks ridiculous. She looks like she is using his knee to give herself a boost.

Sabertooth looks like he's standing ontop of Mystique's dress. Why is she straddling his leg anyways?! Did she get horny during the fight and want to hump something.

I love the way Rogue is looking at the fight, but seems to be flying away from the action.

Homegirl in the middle looks very out of place and wishing she wasn't there.

And seriously, is Iceman being attacked by Northstar or is he being attacked by the chick in white on the left of the screen?

Y'know, I don't think the scene is that bad. Rogue's probably going after something not shown. It doesn't even look like Mystique is straddling Sabretooth's leg - she's just behind him.

As for Iceman... yeah, fair enough. Getting punched by Northstar/Northstar-lookalike, but who knows what else he's doing.

Sabretooth and Rogue look like they're taken from Bachalo's AoA work. Rogue looks like her AoA counterpart. Sabretooth looks like Bachalo's AoA Weapon X, with an extra hand and no adamanium claws. And it looks like he's wearing 70s-80s porn star clothing that's made of leather.

And... Larraco? Lol. Ghost... that's bad. It's Larroca. Two r's, one c.

Honestly, im not thrilled about this at all. I dont care for any of the characters except Rogue.... and I now see they are screwing her up even more. First of all, this is her AOA design (where is the originality Bachalo?) and why oh why oh why does she have white bangs????? Geez, can't Marvel keep her hair consistent for at least 2 months?!

Well, I think the proportions in the scene are that bad. ;)

I'm basing my criticism on the proportions of the characters bodies. Mystique looks like she is taller then both Sabertooth and Aurora (if that is her.) The reason I say she is "straddling" his leg is if you look at the size of Mystique's right leg in proportion to the rest of her body and to Sabertooth's leg it makes it looks like they are right on top of each other. My whole point is the lack of real depth in parts of the picture. To me it doesn't look like she's actually behind him but instead it looks like he was just pasted directly on top of her.

Though Aurora is drawn partially in front of Sabertooth and fully in front of Mystique, she looks like she should be behind the both of them. According to stats she is taller than Mystique (assuming Mystique is at normal size) yet she is drawn much shorter then Mystique. If Mystique is standing behind both of them then she should appear to be the shortest one.

That's my crude mockup of what's bothering me. Each red line is the same length. Instead of things getting smaller the further away from my viewpoint it's the opposite. Mystique and Creed are pretty much the same height (even though Creed is 8" taller then her) and she is much taller then Aurora even though she's behind her.

I've got some other issues but there kinda along the same lines as the ones above. But I do like the character designs.

Hell, Bachalo's proportions are always screwed up in some fashion.

looks like northstar and aurora are officially bad.

and i know bachalo can be a very confusing artist but for the most part, i like him. i mean did u see ultimate war? that was one of my favorites.

Yeah. Messed-up proportions are nothing new. =P

I see what you're saying about them, sure. But I still don't see Mystique straddling his leg. That just doesn't appear in my mind, either because it's not actually there, or I know that's not the case and my mind won't let me see it. Either way.

looking at this scene compared to tan's preview art for uncanny makes me sad...bachalo is just terrible...he has his moments like ultimate war but even most of that was hard to make out... im just glad he's no longer on uncanny and therefore cant draw nightcrawler anymore because when he draws kurt it almost makes me cry!

I like the art, though it's not too clear what is going on. I think Sabes looks alright, I'm just not too keen on the Wolverine thing he has going on with those bits at the sides of his torse. As for Rogue, I just don't like her AoA style outfit.

who are the two black haired chicks to the left with the white and black outfits?

I don't have a problem with Bachalo's proportions. Most of the time, his style leans toward big heads and hands. It's cartoony, so I'm okay with it. There's just something about his art that makes it impossible to tell what's going on. It's far too busy, and his backgrounds can be impossible to make out.

Also, it does look like he just copied and pasted a bunch of random drawings into this picture. There's no clear theme presented, and you can't even tell who's on whose side. It's just utter chaos.

Is it just me or does this artist remind anyone else of Final Fantasy? Not this cover especially, more of the one where they had a Sentinal's head and Cannonball and Nightcrawler and co. were on and around it. The way Cannonball is drawn he reminds me of Cid Highwind.

I think Bachalo should do figure shots, his characters look good, but when he creates a scene... it is confusing as hell.

i like the art and i like rogues outfit, similar to her brotherhood outfit (which she wore for a while before she left with x-treme)

does anyone else think its weird that rogue has no flames around her? that is how she flies now... maybe something changes?

Yeah, his stuff is most definately border-line Sunday morning comic strip...I like it though...though I gotta admit, it is a headache to look at sometimes...which brings me to.......

Could that chick in the center be that Petra girl from the Deadly Genesis series? I haven't even read any of it yet, but I saw the picture someone posted of her. I can't make out what all that..."stuff" is in front of her, but it looks like a rock formation. ::shrug:: Damn u, Bachalo.

I liked Immonen a lot but he had issues... like making his women look masculine and his men feminine...
