Flash solo movie NOT to be a spinoff of JL movie!

Something is definitely not right here...

Last week, when MTV broke the news that David Dobkin had signed on to direct The Flash, Dobkin himself confirmed that his film would feature Wally West and it would be a direct spin-off of George Miller's Justice League film...

Now Hollywood Reporter is saying that it's unclear which version of The Flash will be seen in the solo movie and it will not be a spin-off to Justice League.

Could HR be misinformed (possible, but not likely) or have plans changed at WB in regards to JL and their future DC films?

You're not going to know what version of The Flash or what storyline they are going to take until a screenplay is written, a cast is set, and production is finished. They are a long ways off from that right now.

Dobkin has said his Flash is Wally West so we know that much

Although I am willing to bet that this is true, avoid verbal orders. Once again, it will be final once it is in print with re-writes finished.

Don't you think the Director of all people would know exactly what type of film he was making? I mean, his comments in that MTV article were pretty specific...

He's more than likely going to write whatever the producers want him to and what will work for whomever is cast.

or he will cast who fits what he writes

I wouldn't get my hopes up.... seems like WB just wants to separate everything... but I find it hard to believe they are going to ditch the JL at this point. It will be a spinoff if anything.

i would prefer it be a spinoff than a solo movie. hopefully, it would make sense in the future.

Fans are going to be bashing one version in favor of the other. It'll be Welling/Routh times 10.

HAHAHAHA, good point. Definitely something to look forward to in the Hype.

Dobkin runs with Warners, helms 'Flash'
by Boris Kyt

Nov 2, 2007

After helming comedy "Fred Claus" for Warner Bros., director David Dobkin has decided to make the studio his home, signing a three-year, first-look deal with the company.

Separately, Dobkin also has come aboard to direct "The Flash," the big-screen adaptation of the DC Comics hero. Craig Wright, creator of ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money, has been tapped to write "Flash," which is being produced by Mosaic Media's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Under his deal, Dobkin will direct and produce not just comedies -- the genre in which the helmer found success -- but also hopes to tackle a wide range of projects.

"We're looking to bring comedies to Warner, and I'm also looking to make large-scale scale tentpole movies as well," Dobkin said. He added that the creative freedom Warners gave him while making "Claus" made it natural for him to set up shop there.

Dobkin's first move under the deal is to step up to produce the already in-development comedy "Boss Go Home," written by "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix.

Dobkin's still-unnamed production company will be based in either Beverly Hills or Hollywood. He is promoting his assistant, Greg Garthe, to creative exec and is looking to fill other key positions.

In comics lore, there have been four incarnations of the Flash, who has remained one of DC's most popular characters. While it is unclear which version of the scarlet speedster will appear in Dobkin's movie, the project is not a spinoff of the upcoming "Justice League of America" movie that George Miller is directing in which the Flash is a major character.

Dobkin said he is a comic book fan and has long waited for a shot at a superhero movie, and the Flash's superpower has a relatability and simplicity he found appealing.

"Because of that simplicity, it is easy to design a theme and a story around what his inner life is in comparison to his superpower," he said.

With "Flash," Dobkin is stepping in the shoes previously filled by Shawn Levy, who left because of scheduling issues (HR 2/5).

Dobkin is known for directing "Wedding Crashers," starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. He also directed "Shanghai Knights," which starred Wilson and Jackie Chan, as well as "Clay Pigeons," which starred Vaughn. His "Fred Claus," which stars Vaughn, opens Nov. 9.

Dobkin is repped by CAA and attorney Warren Dern.

Wright, repped by UTA, also wrote on "Lost" and "Brothers & Sisters."

i knew there ws an article that contradicted this new one.

if they mean by the first flash movie not being a spinoff could it be that they mean to make the first film about Barry Allen?

WOW....I'm impressed. I didn't really like this choice until I read this. These are the reasons I've always been attracted to The Flash as well. Impressive!

That seems like an odd thing to write in an article. That almost suggests that they will go out of their way to contradict JLA's continuity, which is probably entirely too early to know.

May I suggest alcohol poisoning or a tall building? Those would atleast be fun for a while. :oldrazz:

Hmmm.....alchol and pills together. Fun and I wouldn't know I was dying or feel a damn thing:woot:

Everyone should go out that way!

if the JL Flash is Barry, then I suspect the solo Flash movie will feature Wally..

I don't think WB has any faith in the JL film. They are just throwing it together with a second rate cast and rushing it just to appease the fans. I honestly don't expect this movie to be all that good and anticipate it being on the same level as the FF films. Hopefully Marvel doesn't do this with the Avengers, if that ever gets off the ground.
