The Rise of Skywalker For those that have seen it, a spoiler thread...

General nit picks/thoughts:

The way the Emperor is introduced was very blunt. I would have them play the message between the "In a galaxy..." and the opening crawl with a blank screen.

Some Rey/Ren stuff was rushed as well but I "got" the the whole arc of Kylo had to die so that Ben Solo could live and atone for Kylo's sins by sacrificing himself. The kiss was pure fan service though. :funny: I also liked the way they handled Poe and his ex's thing. Only showed her eyes, didn't take off her mask, joined the rebellion a bit too quickly but I and my friend got a kick/laugh out of the way she turned down any affection from Poe at the end. I wouldn't mind to see more of that character in some way. Really cool look and Keri Russell played her well.

I missed the list old jedis that "talked" to Rey at the end during the closing credits but I tried to find some names and I did hear correctly, Kanan Jarrus was there.

It was a series of MacGuffins, fake out deaths and space ghosts. I don't even know what to say here because I'd write for hours, so many problems. It's like J.J. made this film pretending he made one before it to set all of this up

Well, it was better than "The Last Jedi"... and I'm not your typical Rian Johnson hater if that's what you're thinking. I simply thought his film was boring and wasted the characters.
J.J. Abrams at least knows how to bring some fun and adventure into it, but this was definitely not as good as "The Force Awakens."
It is what it is.
Palpatine's dialogue was incredibly bad, though. Reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger doing audio commentaries for his movies.

Loved the movie. 9/10 for me.

i loved how Leia was rey her master for a long time ( read resistance reborn also ) and how Leia died and restores her son Ben to the light side again. And that after she first send Han and luke to redeem him and in the end it was her using the force calling out to him and die. How she moved on after Ben gave his live for Rey and moved on together. And the training scene with Luke and Leia was all time epic for me. I really felt Leia through the whole movie. What made it a Leia movie for me. That is why I put it so high out there. And the whole rey Palpatine thing did not bother me cause I had a feeling since episode 7 that he would return. He is the main villain that ties everything together. The reason why I have it a point less is because of the pacing. It did not bother me that much but I was glad I had my bathroom break before the film and not during cause you could have missed a crucial point so much was happening and going on.

I've been thinking about the way Sidious is defeated some more and it occured to me, why the hell didnt Abrams have both Ben and Rey deflect the lightning to kill Sidious? Instead of only Rey using both sabers? Throughout the entire trilogy its repeatedly pointed out and implied that Rey and Kylo are two halves. This film sets up the Dyad thing. It also establishes Rey as a Palpatine. It also goes through the trouble of redeeming Ben. The obvious conclusion to that plotline is for both Rey, a Palpatine and descendant of the Sith, and Ben, a Solo and Skywalker and descendant of the Jedi, to deliver the killing blow together. That only by them both using their sabers together are they strong enough to withstand and deflect Sidious's lightning back at him.

I like what they did with the Carrie Fisher film snippets they had. I like how they incorporated them.

I was totally surprised by Harrison Ford showing up.

I've always been a Wedge Antillies fan, so it was nice to see him show up even though it was extremely brief.

I feel like you're saying only positive stuff right now... is there a reason? Are you trying to stay above the nit pickings? Letting it digest for now?

I mentioned some dislikes in another thread, but this thread says it is for discussing spoilerish things.... I had no dislikes for spoilerish things.

So, the guy that killed Rey's parents is totally an Inquisitor, right?

I don’t understand how Rey can be force sensitive but her parents weren’t.

His name is Oki or Ochi (sp?). Inquisitor's forfeit their birth identity and all carry the same lightsaber type. I think he was just an assassin or Sith lackey.

The Jedi in the PT and Clone Wars and Rebels didnt have force sensitive parents. Jedi isnt a gene that gets passed on like blonde hair or a cleft chin.

We don't have any confirmation of what Sheev Jr's skills were. Frankly, I would be shocked if he didn't escape from Mustafar. And he would have good reason to hide his skills.

I can't believe they made Reylo happen and there's no way the original plan was for Rey to be related to Palpatine.

Wasn't crazy about the climax/third act but I did enjoy it.

I'll look at this trilogy with fond memories and I throughougly enjoyed Rey's journey.

Also: I LOL'd at the very similar Avengers: Endgame scene.

I could feel that they wrote over Rian Johnson in every single scene.

TLJ: Rey is a nobody
TROS: lololol

TLJ: Luke: Say something
TROS: Luke: “I was wrong”

etc.

TLJ left the trilogy with plenty of potential, but Abrams reverted to his old nostalgic baits, down to Tatooine and the “redemption right before death” trope.

I would have been glad if they framed the end of the Skywalker lineage as something poetic and tragic rather than 30 secs of mourning Leia and pretending to end on a hopeful note with a Palpatine just deciding to be a Skywalker.

The best thing coming from this movie for me is probably all the people being hysterical and in denial in the reylo tag in my Tumblr.

So John Williams was in the movie, right?

Also is Killing Eve Rey's mom?

Rey being Force sensitive passed me by until the end. :funny:

Just got out of theater about a hour and a half ago and yeah critics are wrong wrong wrong on this one. The movie was amazing. I didnt fill like to much was going on in the first half of the movie like some people said and the whole fan services i didnt think there was that much really yet people said they went over the top with it. The humor was better then TLJ but i would still say TFA did humor the best. Rey being the empires daughter i love so much. It was a fan theroy like years ago and i loved that they went that rote makes so much sense and i also notice the therioy that Rey would take up the name Skywalker but no be a skywalker by blood was also a fan theroy and i think that was a great way to go to. There have been like a million fan theories before and i dont known if any have ever happend before this 2 but these to are great and Rey being the empires grand daoughter gave the movie a lot of emotion. JJ really should have just done all 3 movies. I think bring Papitain back and having Rey related to her was the plain from day 1 it is so clear now. The only issue i really had with this movie was the Rey and Klyo kiss i hated that part.

Was there a point to Chewie’s fakeout death? We see two transports so obviously they were going to pull this. But man do they build that up as a super emotional moment...only for Chewie to be in the next scene, killing all the suspense or sadness.

Also the secret Finn had, it's that he's in love with Rey right? What else could it be?

"he's in love with Rey right? What else could it be?"

That was supposed to be a secret?
