Sequels Forget Routh! Bring back Dean Cain!

Guys.......

Putting all personal beliefs aside for a moment, Tom Welling looks like he could beat the wholy sh^t out of both Routh and Cain.

I don't know how you can decipher that by looking at somebody.

Van Damme looks like he could bungle Steven Segal, but because Van Damme was originally a ballet dancer and Segal actually teaches asian martial artists how to fight.

Before Superman Returns was even mentioned as becoming a movie, I was thinking that Chris Klein really looked the part of Superman/Clark.

Chris Klein is a horrible actor!

In defense of Van Damme, he won the Champion Du Monde when he was like 19. Granted, Seagal was the first American to teach Aikido in Japan, Van Damme was a prodigy who would've ruled kickboxing throughout the eighties, but he had this weird idea of getting into movies instead. Van Damme is a serious fighter who still has loads of speed. Seagal has been making too many bad CDs and eating too many hoagies to do anything damaging to anyone.

As for the topic of Welling being able to beat Routh or Cain, it doesn't matter because they're all ex-models (with the exception of Cain who was a football player) who probably fight like wieners anyway. It'd be worse than watching basketball players fight. Besides, Dean-o would probably whip both of their arses anyway.

You're kidding, right? :whatever:

And besides, Cain's getting up there in age - he turned the big 4-0 this year.

Thats what I was implying about Welling. He LOOKS like he could beat the hell outta Routh and Cain. Can Welling take either in a real fist fight, I have no idea. But on screen, from a looks standpoint, Welling looks like he would dominate both.

Like another poster said, Cain would probably win a brawl seeing that he was a football player, although Welling was a construction worker after high school.

One of the worst actors in the business, along with Paul Walker!!

Seagal could kick everybodys ass...if he could be bothered to do the fights himself..

Welling is also a 25 year old guy where as Dain Cain is 40. Dean Cain in his prime would break Welling in half. Look at him in his Baywatch days. The guy was a monster.

Oh, and for the record, Dean Cain still did the best Clark to date. If he had more to work with he would've made a good Superman but the show was called Lois and CLARK not Lois and SUPERMAN. The writers clearly thought of Superman as an after thought. Therefore he never got the opportunity to shine. But Cain is more talented than people give credit for.

Erm, no actually, my mistake. I was confusing him with someone else. But my point stands. He was huge in his prime. When Dean Cain was Welling's age he was far bigger than Welling is now.

I agree with you 100%. Cain was the best Clark Kent to date.

Also, Teri Hatcher was worlds above Kidder or Bosworth, Lane Smith was the best Perry White ever, and Landes/Whalin were better Jimmy's than the "man crush, gee whiz" versions played by Mcclure/Huntington.

The Smallville parents are my favorite version of the Kents, but I also enjoy the Kents on L&C.

nobody bring back dean cain, if anyone brings back dean cain i'll commit suicide by overdosing on superfriends

Dean Cain's Clark pretty much made me believe in Superman again. As a kid, I didn't care for the camp of the old movies. They we're fun and good action. But as a teen and adult now, I just need a character to relate to. The whole Kal-El/Clark/Superman crap from those movies just doesn't work for me.
"Lois & Clark" and the TAS versions are the way to go with Superman today. I love the way Clark and Lois interact and the way Luthor works against them and Supes.

Yes, Superman is different from other comic heroes because of the switched disguise. Thats fine and dandy, keep it to the comics. A movie must have a main character I can relate to, otherwise I don't care for him. When i wanna see a freaky alien creature that longs for acception in humanity, I watch "Hellboy". Even though I want a superhero movie to stick close to the source, there need to be slight adaptations to work in a movieworld. For ex.: the organic webbing for Spider-Man. It creates smoother stories and makes more sense on the screen because Peter is a normal guy rather than a crazy weird scientist teenboy. That way more people can relate to him and understand him.

Superman is, if you erase the Krypton origin, just a human with powers. He grew up on a farm and when the time was right, he created himself a disguise and went public to make the world a better place. The disguise is stupid whatever way you turn it. He wears no mask and at least the DP staff would expose him very fast. But that's part of the character in every portrayal, accept it or don't watch it.

The whole alien heritage was added to give him more stories, seeing as he was intended to be a Sci-Fi character. That doesn't erase his 20 something years he grew up as human on a farm. When he finds the fortress or creates it (whatever you like) he uses the knowledge to help earth and other civilizations in space. He doesn't suddenly turn into some weird alien that plays human like the old movies showed it. Donner worked with the material he was given at the time and if DC wouldn't have made a clean cut and recreated Superman in a more "Marvel" way, he would be dead by now.

That's my main problem with "Returns". I can't connect to the characters. Superman is some stupid alien I don't care for, Lois is a bit and the rest of the cast is plain boring. I can forgive a terrible story as long as the characters work, but in this case they just do not.

I wouldn't bring back Dean Cain, but someone who can act, looks the part and plays the Superman I, and many other people, know since the 90's.

Agreed. Chris Reeve's Clark Kent made perfect sense. But, if you were gonna do a show that revolved around Clark Kent then that interpretation would get annoying after two episodes. So, Dean Cain's take on Clark Kent was perfect for the show and in a strange way makes him the best Clark Kent in my book.

If he had more to work with he would've made a good Superman but the show was called Lois and CLARK not Lois and SUPERMAN.

Thats what I always tell people.

But Cain is more talented than people give credit for.

I guess.

I actually like Routh a lot from the vibe I get in interviews. He is not full of himself, seems like a real good guy - someone I would love to have as a friend.

But those qualities do not make a great actor. Brandon is an average actor as is Dean. Ironically Dean's Clark was good and so was Brandon's but they did not have the skills to carry the dual role. Not a lot of actors would.

You know where Singer made his mistake in going with Routh?

Simple - he went for a physical clone or as close to a clone of Reeve as he could find. But Reeve's looks, though great, are not what made him Superman. It was his persona, charisma, presence.

That is what Singer should have looked for in the new Superman actor - a Reeve-like presnces, not a Reeve-like look.

Its clear to me that Reeve's presence is what made him a perfect Superman. His chisled features come after that.

Sort of. Lois & Clark ended with someone leaving a kid on their front door.

It was Dean Cain's idea to give Superman a son. He said so in the "Look! Up in the sky!" documentary.

They need to involve Dean Cain badly. Hal Jordan cameo anyone?
