Fox’s X-Men Universe Has Come to An End: Will You Miss It?

Not at all.

It was the only CBM franchise where it was acceptable to strip away everything that made the comic so exciting and give us a bunch of hit or miss movies and no character development for 95% of the characters.

The foXverse isjust some weird alternate universe where characters like Angel, Jubilee, Psylocke, Storm didn't really shine. And randoms like Negasonic got more screentime.

Ifsomebody said to me, that this franchise would last 20 years with 13 films/2 shows. I wouldn't think of Legion, the made up relatives of the Fenris Twins, Mystique, Deadpool and Magneto as some of the most fleshed out characters. Like what about Rogue,Cyclops and the rest of the iconic X-Men.

And oh I forgot to mention a movie verse that doesn't make sense....

Like lets say, Disney didn't purchase foX... would Sophie and company meet another Wolverine that isn't Hugh? Or are they stuck in the past, pre X1? What about Rogue, Iceman and the Colossus that appeared in Deadpool? Are theygoing to end up like what happened in Logan? How does the Kitty Pryde movie fit into the timeline? Would they still delay Gambit, etc etc...!

They can't get most characters right and the continuity is embarrassingly messy and pointless. Its like they were just releasing movies for the sake of it. It didn't feel as inspired as Mcu and even dceu, especially they suddenly decided to go "low budget" with some of their films. They were turning like the current Sonyverse.

Do you mean if I will miss the Magneto/Charles/Wolverine franchise?

No, not at all.
I'll miss the x-men casts (the actual x-men members), but not the franchise per se, that has Singer/Kinberg all over it, even if we had 2 other directors, but still 20 years of the S/K vision.

No. And that doesn't mean I do not appreciate their contribution for CBMs, the risks they took, the performances or the good movies they occasioanally made.

Their biggest sin, IMO, is not the mistakes they made, but the refusal to change (which resulted in repeating those mistakes).

Also, we don't know what the future holds for the X-Men in the MCU, so it's a little soon to say if we're going to miss it since we don't have anything to actually compare.

What I can say now is that I'm absolutely ready to move on from this universe and this vision, and I'm excited to see whatever is in the future for the mutants.

I liked more of the Fox-verse than I hated, though its lows were *low* (and yes, I have read decades of X-comics and it's totally fine to enjoy an *adaptation*).

I don't think it's a bad thing it's coming to an end, since it's highs, other than Logan which couldn't really be continued anyway, were almost universally Singer driven and even he clearly lost his inspiration by the time Apocalypse came around. It'll be good to have something new and fresh.

I don't 'miss' the Burton or Nolan Batman eras, either, because they're sitting on my shelf. A franchise never goes away as long as you keep watching it.

I think they mean missing the universe, not the movies you can rewatch.

You can rewatch Friends, Lost, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, etc... but still miss those characters and new stories told with them. And in that sense I won't miss the Fox universe.

Yes. They were very hit or miss, had extremely messy continuity and didn't do most of the characters justice (all valid reasons for people not to be fans of) but despite all their overall issues X-Men films had a bigger variety in tone and style, they took more risks, with R-rated movies being just one example, and had more of a director's imprint that Disney would ever allow to due to their format.

They also relied heavily on characters (even if it were mostly the same ones every time) and had far more drama gravitas and better acting than what we'll probably ever going to see again. Moreover it's always a breath of fresh air nowadays to not rely so much in shared universes and formulaic structures.

The first X-Men movie is the main reason Hollywood takes comic book films seriously again and is the one that pretty much kickstarted the modern age of superhero movies. I can think of at least three movies in the franchise that are better than anything the MCU has ever released.

However, the last few movies were a big drop in quality (for the second time) and Fox didn't seem to know what they wanted to do with them. Kinberg was by far the biggest reason people were not invested and lost interest and even though I would have loved to see the studio keep making movies without him the good news is he won't be involved ever again this way.

I'm sure that we'll see far more consistent movies in quality from now on and certainly more faithful to the source material. I too am ready for a change. The franchise is entering an era that produces movies that follow a far safer road. But safety isn't always good. Let's see how that goes.

I've been missing Game of Thrones since before the show even ended...

It's really hard to say you'll miss something that ended wonderfully, sucked, ended wonderfully again, then really sucked and died. I have love for a lot of these films that will endure, and a long gestating fan edit that I will get done one day, but I was lamenting the lost potential long before the films stopped. They had their time. Some of the questionable characters behind the camera have had their time too.

That said I will not be missing the Foxverse. I am highly anticipating to see what the MCU does with the characters.

Hey at least the MCU gives their characters shine. You tell me when the last time Foxverse Storm, Rogue, Nightcrawler or Cyclops got the same level of dialogue like Cap, Captain Marvel, Rocket or Thor and I'll give you an Infinity Stone.

Not really. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed several of these films. Some of which are even among my very favorite CBMs. But most of that is already in the past. Hugh Jackman is gone. Patrick Stewart is gone. Ian McKellen is gone. Etc. They weren't coming back even if the buyout didn't go through. Recent efforts are largely disasters and this franchise desperately needed to get far away from Simon Kinberg.

The only thing that was still paying off was Deadpool. And yes, if we don't get another Ryan Reynolds Deadpool film, I will miss that. But other than Deadpool/X-Force, the future at Fox was looking rather bleak.

My issue with the FoX-Men movies is that it kept itself inside such a small pond in terms of scale. No Shi'ar, no Brood, no Savage Land, no Sinister, etc. 14 movies in and we rehashed the Dark Phoenix saga twice and used Magneto as a villain or an anti-hero/villain switch in every movie he was in.

It was a mixed bag but I think I'll say yes. As much as I like the MCU and admire what they have done, but I like the idea of different studios and people being able to make these movies and not most of them being released under the same banner.

Nope. I have them all and will eventually even buy NM digitally to have the set cause that’s how I am, but I’ve been done with this series for awhile. For me, Logan was their best send off anyone could hope for and left it all with a strong period at the end of the sentence. They should have stopped then and not pushed out Dark Phoenix or New Mutants, but hell, here we are.

Fortunately we have WB/DC as a Marvel alternative and things are looking up for them at the moment.
