Damnit! Um....umm...umm I can make waffles!

So do we just post write-ups in the old Rec thread

Yeah or this one.

I want to enter, but I don't know how to add a picture to my post...

I wouldn't mind getting in on this, but unfortunately I don't know many trades that aren't overly obvious, like X-Men or Spiderman. Hmm, I guess I do know a few that I'd like to try to give a good review to anyhow. We'll see.

Title: Sleeper (The Series)
Writer/Artist: Ed Brubaker/Sean Phillips
Publisher: Wildstorm

Summary:
Holden Carver, a.k.a., The Conductor, is a supervillain. He works for one of the biggest, and most powerful supervillain organizations in the world headed by the mysterious Criminal genius known as Tao. Holden Carver is also a sleeper agent, sent in to bring down Tao’s organization from the inside by Master Spy John Lynch. As far as the world is concerned, Holden is a traitor to is county, and a murderer. The only person that knows what he really is, is Lynch. Which screws everything up when Lynch is shot in the head and is stuck in a coma. Carver is out in the cold. He’s got to avoid government agents trying to bring his traitorous ass in. He’s got to continue to avoid suspicion from Tao and his minions (Some of whom he’s grown to really like. Especially that Miss Misery, who is one of the most original characters I’ve ever come across.), and at the same time trying to hold on to who he really is, which seems to be slipping with every passing day. He's done terrible things to conceal his identity. Things that make him question his allegiance. Will he become what he pretends to be? ;) You'll find out.

This book is by Ed Brubaker, so if you love his Daredevil, Captain America, or Gotham Central, then you’d love this Crime Noir masterpiece. Be warned, this book is for mature audiences only, so giving it to your little sister to get her into comics is not recommended. Then again....no, no, adults only. :)

Format: The entire series is collected in four soft cover trades in this order: Out in the Cold, All False Moves, Crooked Line, and The long Way Home.

If I do Miller's DD would you want his original run separate from Born Again and Man Without Fear?

Title: Punisher MAX Vol. 1: In the Beginning
Writer: Garth Ennis
Artists: Leandro Fernandez & Goran Parloy
Publisher: Marvel MAX

Following his critically acclaimed "Preacher" run, Garth Ennis finds himself jumping back into yet another critically acclaimed series, one that he's very familiar with. Punisher MAX is a relaunch of the classic Marvel character The Punisher, but there's one big change, this series is geared towards mature readers. Before, The Punisher had some mature themes, it pushed the envelope from time to time, Ennis had wanted to do so much more with the character, but couldn't. That is, untill now. Under the Marvel MAX imprint, Ennis can do whatever he wants with The Punisher, because it's geared towards mature readers and he's done just that. He follows his own continuity & has a distinct vision of what he wants this series to pan out as in the long run, and judging from Preacher, we're in for a treat.

Vol. 1 In the Beginning is the first arc in this updated on going of The Punisher. Vol. 1 is a Trade Paperback (TPB) collection of the first 6 issues of the Punisher MAX on going series. It marks the return of classic Punisher ally, Microchip. This arc starts off with Ennis's version of The Punisher's origin. Shortly there after we get to see The Punisher (a.k.a. Frank Castle) as the destructive vigilante he really is, from tearing apart enemies with heavy machine guns, to going out and making the world sane, you can truly see Ennis's vision come to life. The story centers around two CIA agents, O'Brien & Roth who're trying to capture Castle. Filled with vivid story telling, witty dialogue, and eye catching art. If you've even somewhat been interested in The Punisher character or Ennis's take on said character, i'd advise picking up this TPB, just to test the waters on how much you can stomach of this no holds barred take on the classic Marvel character.

Format: This TPB is from an Ongoing series entitled "Punisher MAX". There's currently 4 other TPB's out, with more on the way and each collect a specific arc. It's a monthly series, I reviewed the TPB, but they also sell hard cover collections. The first hard cover, contains the first two arcs of the series & contains the first 12 issues of the series, and a MAX special entitled "The End". In comic book format the series is currently up to issue 34.

STARMAN_A_STARRY_KNIGHT_TP.jpg

Title: Starman (The Series)
Writer/Artist: James Robinson writer/Tony Harris and various artists
Publisher: DC Comics

Summary: Starman is a story of Legacy. Fathers and sons, hero's and villains, and how far a man will go for love. This is James Robinson’s masterpiece that earned him five Eisner Nominations. This series follows the mantel of Starman. From the original, Ted Knight, on through to the then current Starman, Jack Knight and beyond. The first volume, "Sins of the Father" shows us how Jack, who didn’t want anything to do with being a superhero, suddenly had the mantle thrust upon him in a time of crisis. How he stepped up to the plate and became one hell of a hero. The kind his father would be proud of. Jack has become one of my favorite characters. I mean, you really get to know the guy. What he’s into. His fears. A truly complete character. You'll also see many great supporting characters like The Shade. Sometimes Supervillain, sometimes ally to Jack Knight. Bobo Benetti, another former supervillain. Like if Frank Sinatra had super strength. And lets not forget the O'dare family. A family of cops that have helped Ted Knight and defended Opal city since waaaayyy back in the 40's.

Throughout this series, you’ll see Jack tackle, supervillains, love, loss, the Marvel family, space, and beyond. If you enjoy stories that deal in Legacy characters, then you’ll enjoy this series. The best volumes I’ve found were the first one, "Sins of the Father", The third volume, "Night and day", Volume seven, "Starry Knight", and Volume nine, "Grand Guignol". Now these are my personal favorites, but really, the entire series is just phenomenal.

Format:
There are ten soft cover volumes collecting this series starting with Sin of the father, Wicked Inclination..,Night and Day, Times Past, Infernal Devices, To reach the Stars, A Starry Knight, Stars my destination, Grand Guignol, and Sons of the Father.
