From THE CHAMPIONS to THE ORDER

Either one of their names alone would be enough for me to consider it, but together they can make me overcome my indifference to Wolverine and general hatred for most of his recent comics.

Have you seen some of the preview art? Damn, man. Garney's kicking ass.

Garney's kicking butt on AC, IMO.

Raney's on AC, dude. Raney. Not Garney. Garney is a thousand times better than Raney.

What? No, I haven't seen anything. Link me! LINK ME NOW!!

Right, right. It's late, sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of names.

Wow. I didn't know it was possible to love Garney even more than I did before.

Yeah, and with Bill Reinhold's inks over top of that...damn.

That is some sweet art.

Now, to turn the convo back to THE ORDER....

When last we discussed THE ORDER, we agreed that it is a great book, the guest art was terrific, and disagreed over whether or not Fraction should include a SECRET INVASION tie-in, presuming it becomes an editorial mandate.

By the time it does, when SI starts in Summer 2008, THE ORDER would be on it's 10th issue or so.

That pretty much spells out editorial mandate, to me. Marvel will certainly want the extra sales, and they'll hang The Order's already low sales over Fraction's head to get him to concede.

anyone catch the cover to #7 with Namor on the cover?

I'm glad Spidey isn't showing up anytime soon, since that's sometimes the sign of trying to save a book (see Slott's The Thing)

I know, and I'll hate it, because that will mean Fraction won't get to wrap up a run his way. At best it'll force him to do so in one issue instead of two.

I hadn't seen the Namor cover.

Yeah, guest shots by Spider-Man, Wolverine, X-23, Punisher, and Ghost Rider seem to be last gasps of dying books. But crossover tie-in's are good enough. Just look at how many tie-in's they attached to HEROES FOR HIRE before axing it anyway. Or IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN. Really, all they do is show desperation and bleed an issue away from the creative team's established theme, and I'd rather go without that, especially for a book like THE ORDER which, unless it holds steady soon, may be yet another great book that dies too soon.

I'm suddenly far more interested in that "Secret Project" featuring Nighthawk and that Iron Man/Doctor Doom page featuring Tony in his old-school, JR Jr. armor (which I love)...

Yeah, those both look great. Any guesses as to who's doing the art for that secret project?

No idea. Looks pretty good, though.

Nighthawk's little eyewings always make me uncomfortable. I keep thinking someone's gonna hit him at just the right angle and they're gonna snap off and stab him in the eye. :(

I didn't. Walker's art seems cleaner. The shading doesn't look right to me, either. I could be wrong, though. I'm guessing we'll find out soon enough if Brevoort let the page be 'leaked' on his blog.

I doubt it's Walker's art, anyway. Not for stylistic reasons, but for business ones. Marvel would have to be completely, stone-cold ****ing ******ed to give Cory Walker a book. That guy can barely do two consecutive issues in a two month span. :down

I've been reading his blog for a while now, and he's been putting up small sketches once a day everyday, in an effort to improve his speed. If anything, I think it's making him slower.
