FX's The Bridge

The Americans is well-made, but I don't know. There's something about it that just didn't pump me up when I tuned in every week. I think it might be something I'd enjoy more watching all in sequence.

That's my plan. Some shows work better in larger chunks. I see potential, but as a week to week thing it wasnt hooking me. Breaking bad was the same way. I couldn't get into it when it was in season 1. I waited and I just got done going through the first four seasons and can't wait to see how it all ends! I think the Americans may be the same for me.

I think the problem with The Americans is it's so dry all the time, there's very little humor or just a sense of excitement, it's very deliberate and colourless.

Yea that's exactly what turned me off with The Americans. It was good no doubt but god help me I can't even remember wtf happened in the second half of the season just cuz I'd get so easily distracted while watching it. I get the same way with Homeland and to a much lesser extent Boardwalk Empire. Incredible quality just very dry and slowburning. I wasn't like that with Breaking Bad though, soon as I found out it was renewed for a second season I was on that **** week in week out. I actually remember be crazy surprised it even got renewed cuz there was such a long wait in between, I thought people had forgotten about BB by then. I'm gonna check this out here in a bit, hopefully it's good

Yeah, what's the consensus? Good, bad, meh?

I personally liked it a lot. I usually have trouble getting into shows in the beginning, but I thought it was a really strong episode for a pilot. The acting was good all around. The story seems intriguing so far. The two apparent leads are both good. Sonya (with the asperger's, I'm guessing?) is an interesting choice, and the Mexican cop, Marco, comes off as very likable. The direction and cinematography seemed a bit dull though; not much flash or style to speak of. Other than that, I really enjoyed it and look forward to watching more.

Mace, would you care to elaborate?

I was not expecting Sonya to be that way.

I liked the premiere a lot. Both leads are great. Sonya reminds of Bones.

I'm like ten minutes in and yea this with Sonya is totally throwing me. Very interesting though

Idk if I like what they are doing with Sonya. Its like they are trying to shove her odd ways in my face in the first episode. Every scene with her is just one odd thing after another. We get it she has issues can we move on? She's gotta be more than whatever her condition is.

It doesn't seem THAT overt to me. As guy said above she's a lot like Bones, just sans humor

Bones without the humor is just irritating tho.

Ill give em this, they are playing it straight. It doesn't feel like a shtick.

She feels like Bones and Olivia Dunham from Fringe. I'm digging this for sure. Could end up being just as great as Justified or something

I felt sorry for her by the end of the episode. The guy in the office talking about her, her crying about the chief retiring, and just the way she is. I wanted to give her a hug.

Yea they amped it up in the second half there. Doesn't really bother me though. The rest of the season looks interesting to say the least. Can't wait

They probably shouldn't have made the pilot 90 min because it seemed like they had trouble filling it. The 2nd half was good, I agree. The ending with the car bomb scene was very well done. I don't mind them making Sonya socially ******ed but for me it only works if she is a genius cop.

I love me some Ted Levine. I can still hear him saying -- "Candycane". LOL. :p

^^^^ HAHAHA! I was thinking the exact same thing! "Anybody out there seen Caaandycaane??"

Bring your pink Champagne! :p

Hahaha god damn now I can't get Paul Walker's candycane voice outta my head. Uggghhh lmao

"It puts the lotion in the basket!" :p

I just hope Levine sticks around this time. I was bummed when they killed him off in the first episode of Hell on Wheels after making such a big deal of him being in it. :( The promos suggest they won't kill him off so quick this time, but I don't know if he'll make it all the way through the season.

Yeah, I didn't even realize Levine was in this until I saw him in it last night.

Overall, I really liked the pilot. I wasn't sure about it at first (Kruger's acting when they were actually on "the bridge" seemed a little over the top, but she was great in the rest of the episode). I really like the Juarez cop, and the subplot with the wife and the dead husband is interesting... really curious about where they were headed with that. And what do you know? Matthew Lillard actually managed to not suck in something.

One thing that stuck out to me a little bit though... is it just me or do Kruger and Levine almost feel like the El Paso police version of Carrie and Saul from Homeland? That scene where he tells her she is retiring and she starts crying felt like it was straight out of the other show. That concerns me because this show was developed by Meredith Stiehm, who also worked on Homeland. I hope this just doesn't end up feeling like a less-intense version of that show.
