Also, note that there's a HUGE SPOILER in that HR review.

Got to hand it to that HR reviewer for throwing that huge spoiler out there without caution. I commend it.

that would hardly "spoil" the movie for me lol...

if anything it would have me prepared for the ridiculous plot twist

G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is...Awesome! The tech, the action, the fights i.e. not only Snake Eyes Vs Storm Shadow, but Scarlett vs The Baroness, too. Alan Silvestri's score is...Perfect! G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is the Best Film of 2009! Please...Let there be a sequel in 2011!

I'm excited for the movie and all, but best film of 2009?

someone complained about Storm Shadow and the jetpack...weren't there multiple episodes where Joes donned jetpacks to beat on COBRA?? and oh yea...the best animated opening sequence EVER in GI Joe the Movie

Here's my quick review...

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - 2/10

Wow, this film was so awful...it was actually kind of fun and brought the inner child out of me, in some ways. The visual effects, from the CGI to the explosions, are so ridiculously bad and lame that you can laugh at that them with the person next to you and actually have a good time, from time to time. The acting in this film is...I'll just say that Ray Park, who plays Snake Eyes, gives the best performance, but Joseph Gordon Levitt is fun, too, even if he's cheesy...but it's G.I. Joe -- that's pretty much what we expect. The plot isn't anything new, of course, but keeps the action going and actually has a somewhat decent cliffhanger ending for this type of film. Sadly though, the rest of the film is a bore. In the end, the film feels cheap, from the awful CGI to the poor camerwork, set-pieces, etc. which held the action and other scenes back from ultimately bringing the inner child out of me. It can be fun, but in a so-bad-it's-good way(think Batman and Robin).

and that is a nice civil negative review, not trying to make anyone who likes the film feel less than

Gave it a 5/10. I walked in pumped expecting bad ass fight scenes with Storm Shadow and snake eyes. They were hardly that. The flashbacks were overdone. Cobra Commander's end mask was lame. Though I liked him up till that point. Channing Tatum cant act for ****. And Baroness turning 'good guy' made me wanna stick forks in my eyeballs.

So I saw G.I.Joe:Rise Of The Cobra today and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's a good simplistic action movie, but one with some
bad performances,so so special effects, and some bad dialog. The movie works good for me because of the normal suspects I wasn't expecting anything from,I have never ever been a huge G.I.Joe fan. I don't care that some characters were butchered, and I don't care that I didn't learning anything that was actually meaningful. The characters are plain as well and I don't like how the Baroness isn't a bad girl anymore. 8/10 from me.

I thought that Eccleston, Gordon-Levitt, and Miller were good in the movie and that's to be expected. Bad guys tend to be juicier parts. Frankly, I'm not even quite as negative on Tatum as others here.

The writing though does the actors no favors, and the plotting is inanae. What's weird about the CGI is that some of the complex stuff looks good, while the easy stuff looks cheap (there's a scene on the White House lawn that looks like it could have been done in my local TV studio). Cobra Commander's mask is awful, just terrible. 4/10

Hopefully we can all agree on two things

1.) Baroness' alteration at the end of the film was incredibly stupid. They better not have her return as s
ome sort of new Joe in the next film. Either leave her out or somehow retcon her so that she turns evil again, permanently. They threw away two good villains, SS and the Baroness for no good reason. SS will be easier to bring back, retcon some sort of nanomite crap, but good god its going to take an arm and a leg to make Baroness the Baroness again.

2.) JGL was much better than anyone expected. Even though the CC voice was kind of bad, unnecessarily so, at least the Doctor was badass. I think most of us that enjoyed the movie can agree that he was a classic, top notch Saturday morning cartoon villain. Can't wait to see more of him, just give him a better outfit and his Doctor voice. At least his look wasn't as bad as CC's old battle suit. I'd take vagina face over snorkel face anyday.

it's a compliment...the Hype tends to go with "let me give my negative opinion and run down everyone that doesn't agree with me" bit

Thanks, BlackLantern. I thought I might have come off a bit snobbish when it came to the special effects part and didn't know if you were completementing me or putting a snob in his place. Thanks again.

You naild it. I absolutely loved the character and JGL did a great job as a "Saturday morning cartoon villain". While I didn't like Cobra, the Doctor was awesome.

I thought his voice was perfect and he was one of the few characters who actually reminded me of the character they based him on. Even though his situation was different here, I did get that he was the menacing CC we all know.

Actually, now that I think about it, even though I thought the movie was overall a big mess, I think if Duke and Ripcord had been cast efficiently I would have been way easier on this thing.

Ok so to answer your question about baroness:

Basically Baroness doesn't know CC is her brother. I imagine if they make a sequel he will reveal himself to her and she will want to serve under his command. Then he'll slip in more nanobots and she'll be right back to being the Baroness we all know and love.

All and all I didn't hate the movie. If they make a sequel all they have to do is give CC a new mask and I'll be happy. Plus put more time in the CGI, it was horrid.

i didnt watch the show.. nor care..
it looked horribly cheesy and fake(beyond that)..
and plus baroness jumping on it too..ugh god that was awful

even the jet pack scene in DB:E was better lol

So basically all the **** that they took from the cartoons is the exact reason people don't care for the movie.
