or the simple answer...when they made the suit, they did a full body mold of Ray Park, including his head, and just kept the mouth on

maybe....i honestly don't see the audience being that confused about why he has a mask on and would need a mouth...either way, in my opinion they could of done without and still got the same result, he would just look like a ninja...(also..when they were in the artic wasn't the white outfit he(snake eyes) was wearing w/o the mouth??) i forgot?

The source material is not hard.

Baroness and Destro were a couple. Not only in the cartoon, but both Marvel and IDW runs. They didn't need a memory chip or nanomites. And Baroness was deeply fallen for Destro.

The changes to CC are fine. The only problem was CC knowing who Duke was and vice versa. If they changed that part. There really would be nothing to nit pick.

Duke was a play by the book soldier, Hawk was the reckless leader. <-This is less important than the other two being mentioned.

Other than that ... the movie would have been eh. The other complaints was the acting, overall plot, and finally the explanation of everything; yet the sudden we forgot our own universe angle.

Sienna Miller did great. Alot of good action sequences , especially the chase in france.
The film was fun ad most of the cast did a good job. My only negatives were Channing Tatum's acting and the two transformations at the end that didn't look good.
It will be interesting to see what they do with a sequel.

I loved this movie. The action was entertaining as hell, the acting actually wasn't that horrendous, and the story wasn't so bad that it made you want to punch a child, even though that the kids in the audience were going so crazy that I considered it. I liked it better than both Transformers movies combined. I loved what they did with Cobra Commander, though I wish they would have made the voice more cartoony and less Darth Vadery. One of my favorite movies of the summer. 9/10

The scene in Paris is holy **** awesome.

This movie was everything that I'd expect out of a G.I. Joe movie. Did you guys honestly expect a serious drama or something?

I remember this same kind of thing errupted with the Fantastic Four movies. The Fantastic Four comics were always kind of corny, but when the movie is somewhat corny, people complain.

Same thing applies here. When I watched the movie, it made be think back to those days in the 80's and the old cartoon show, and reading all of those comics. I couldn't ask for anything more.

8/10

G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra Review

Got back from watching G.I Joe and I was pleasantly surprised.

In the beginning I completely ripped on the movie based on the trailers and all the commotion that supposedly went on during production. So because of this I wasn't really expecting much.

Well I can say that the movie successfully captures the spirit of the 80's cartoon series and channels Sigma 6 when it comes to the weaponry and aesthetics.

The movie doesn't drag on and it's appropriately paced with a suitable running time. In many team films you don't get a good demonstration of actual teamwork, well ROC actually does this quite successfully by giving the fan favorite characters/organization (Snake Eyes, Duke, the Joes and of course Cobra) some good backstory by utilizing flashbacks (although I could have done with less of Dukes and Baroness surface level relationship reminiscing) which might have bothered some but were done in a nice way with stylish transitions which didn't take me out of the main story.

While the acting isn't the best it gets the job done. I really enjoyed Snake Eyes & Storm Shadows side story arc. You get a good sense of their relationship which is based around rivalry and jealousy (from Storm Shadows part at least).

The Duke/Rex (AKA CC)/Baroness arc on the other hand felt a little to forced and Cobra Commander I felt got a little shafted when it came to the reasoning for his insanity. The movie does provide an explanation but I think a stronger reason could have been conceived.

The special effects while a little dodgy at times are actually pretty innovative when it comes to gadgetry, weaponry, and vehicles. The women in this movie all look great just like their cartoon counterparts and no matter the impracticality of wearing tight leather it stayed faithful to its source material by keeping this aspect.

This is definitely not the disaster that some are making it out to be and serves as a welcome addition to the "G.I Joe" franchise. I had a whole lot of fun with this movie and I think its earned itself a sequel.

Overall the movie delivers exactly what the various cartoons have and thats kinetic teamwork with a handful of gadgets and weapons to stop the ever terrorizing, plotting Cobra Commander.

7.5/10 "Go Joe!"

This film was decent. It's like one big Saturday morning cartoon. The action sequence slightly made up for the lame, cheesy dialogue. It was good entertainment, but I doubt I'd watch it again.

7/10

Iron Man wasn't freaking citizen kane, but it was a damn good movie. I don't accept trash because its dumb stupid fun.
Iron Man as a comic book character is one dimensional, it's just a rich industrialist guy with a powerful suit of armor and there aren't many cool IM storylines that I hear people raving about except the alcoholic era.

I don't even like the comic book but the movie was good because of one thing......Robert Downey Jr.

In a movie thats not about acting, It's really bad when you stand out as a lot worse than all other actors were everybody isn't trying to give a great performance

stormshadow and baroness flying away in jet packs made me feel like i was watching spykids lol...

That was the exact moment I really fell in love with it. Seriously.

Admittedly, I think it started off kind of weak. The opening scene flashback felt like a deleted scene from VAn Helsing and the next scene(and first battle scene) was a bit cheesy for my taste but after that...PURE BLISS AND NON STOP FIGHT SCENES!

It was nice to watch action scenes where the camera wasn't shaken and you can see what was going on. The film was very violent and full of explosions to the nth power.

For fans of the material, it's surprisingly faithful to the comics and cartoons. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in particular are EXACTLY like they are supposed to be(their flashbacks were probably the best. Watching little kids beat the unholy hell out of each other is shockingly entertaining). Cobra Commander may not look like he does normally but he sure does ACT like he's supposed to. Very pleased with him.

My favorite scene(of many in the film) is the attack on the g.i. joe headquarters. Baroness and Scarlett beat each other senseless, Stormshadow and Snakeeyes do as well(Stormshadow even throws on a jetpack at one point!), LOTS AND LOTS of ninja stars, guns, explosions.

Seriously this movie was awesome. It started off really goofy and I was ready to write it off and be dissapointed but once it got going, it was incredibly entertaining.

It is Stephen Sommers best film by far and I hope it does really well. I love the final scene.

My audience was about 80 percent male and probably more mixed than usual race wise.

As an adult, I thought this was immensely entertaining but I think if I was like 9 or hell even 15, I probably would've declared this the best movie ever lol. It's that much goofy fun.

It met my expectations...it sucked donkey crank.
My childhood memories aside (all the changes made drove my inner fanboy zany) it was just an awful movie...period.

oh, and to everyone who *****ed about the accelarator suit stuff, I thought it really worked onscreen. It looks bad in slow motion in the commercials but it was INCREDIBLE on the big screen without the slo mo. Cars getting blown up, lazer guns and such.

Zartan's whistling made me chuckle. I really, really liked it.

Yes, it's not as faithful as it could be but...it was so much fun, I found myself not caring. I'll probably go see it again next week sometime.

I thought the accelerator suits looked awful on the big screen. It looked extremely fake dodging missles while spinning in mid air. Running super fast lookin all fake reminded me of shrek running. hated that scene besides snake eyes tryin to get in.

Edit, damn double post. :(

The movie was just beautiful...simply beautiful. So awesome, chalk full of amazing action and met my expectations and surpassed them in a lot of other ways, it took itself seriously and the jokes made me laugh and weren't too corny or cheesy...amazing action beats, the action was relentless (just how a G.I. Joe movie should be I'd like to think) Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were everything I could have hoped for and they had an amazingly awesome final battle.

Bravo Stephen Sommers (..never thought I'd ever say that, Van Helsing was brutal...) and crew.

MINOR Gripes--Destros voice should have been much cooler...sometimes Duke sounded like he was speaking in ebonics with that gangsta accent, and I thought Duke could have kicked some more ass with hand to hand and machine gun combat.

Other than that, well hell.....it's 3 in the am and instead of going to be I'm busting out all of my G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra action figures and re-enacting all of the battles I can remember from the movie so...yeah it was an awesome film!

Bring on the sequel----9 stars out of 10 :D!!!!!

I totally love it!! really the Joes are portrait like a unify team, very solid and they are very "goup" I mean, they wath their backs and works very well!!
The villains was great, love Storm Shadow and Baroness, and the full team of Joes!!
Ripcord character was cool (Marlon has show that he is not always annoying), I was very sad for Covergirl :(
Anyway, it was a great and entertainment movie, my bf and I was really excitd to see it, he never was a fan of the Joe, and now he has a lots of questions and wants a sequel :D

I thought this movie was a great escape for 2 hours to have fun. There's was tons of action, underwater battles, sexy girls, friggin' Snake-Eyes, what more do you want? If you walked into the theater expecting this movie to be realistic in any way or have phenomenal acting, then I feel sorry for you. It was like me playing with my action figures when I was little and create weird scenarios, dialogue, and more coming to life.

And for people to say this was better then Wolverine have something so far up there asses that it's ****ed up their brain. I'll give you one reason why; G.I. Joe was fun, Wolverine was not. It's as simple as that.

This is like the same problem people have with the Star Wars prequels. When they saw the originals, they were ****in' amazing because you were a kid and it was the most incredible thing ever. Then you grew up, and upon seeing the prequels you hated them. Know Why? BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT A KID NO MORE. When you would watch G.I. Joe as a a kid it was awesome as ****, but then you grew up and watched the movie (even if it isn't as loyal to the original stuff as some people hope) it still basically had the same feeling, characters, etc.

Just enjoy it for what it is and stop trying to make sense out of it.

I just typed up a review, but friggin' SHH! failed on my when I was submitting it. I'll write a new one tomorrow, but for now I'll leave it at this: I thought the movie kicked butt. It wasn't particularly thought provoking, but that wasn't the point. The point of the movie was to bring you back to where you were when you first discovered GI Joe, and let you re-live the experience of watching the cartoons and playing with the toys. In that sense, I actually think this was a more successful rebirth of the franchise than GI Joe: Resolute. Resolute did a great job of giving us a cool, grittier version of the classic mythos, however where Rise of Cobra has it beat is in re-creating that feeling of childhood joy you'd get while watching the old show as a kid. I think a large factor in this is that the movie stylistically borrows a lot from Star Wars, which is well known for bringing out the kid in the young and old alike.

I give the movie an 8/10. It was not "Star Trek" good, but it was easily a much tighter and more focused package than Transformers 2, and without the sophomoric sense of humor. That doesn't mean I expect you will like it that much, it just means that on a scale of 1-10 out of how much I enjoyed myself, I give it an 8. Despite some mixed performances from the cast (Snake Eyes and the villains were all great, but Duke was flat) it was a fun ride from start to finish, and I'll see it in theaters again if I get the chance.

Also, the ushers informed us that there's a sneak preview of District 9 this week at the theater. That's a nice plus. :D

Being a casual fan of the GI Joe series, I thought it was fantastic! The trailers really failed this movie b/c it was a lot better than I expected. I thought Ray Park did well (of course) as Snake Eyes and Sienna Miller nailed the part of Baroness. My only real complaint was that the action scenes got a little hard to follow when there was a lot happening on the screen at once. Otherwise, it was a very satisfying summer flick and I hope it will do well even though I don't think that's likely.

Guys this is really weird but did all of you notice that Baroness never ACTUALLY said the line "Real American Heroes" in the movie? It was just added to the trailers but not in the actual movie. I was soo disappointed as it was such a cool sarcastic reference. Am I mistaken? Help!

Sienna Miller did great. Alot of good action sequences , especially the chase in france.
The film was fun ad most of the cast did a good job. My only negatives were Channing Tatum's acting and the two transformations at the end that didn't look good.
It will be interesting to see what they do with a sequel.

Well, to be fair, those two masks probably weren't seen as horrendously vital to get perfect for the movie. I think they'd be improved upon in the sequel.

feels like an american action film. you'd never see this kinda of movie eminating anywhere but from the USA. same shizzle W/Transformers.
what was it ? imagine team america without the full sarcasm and much more action. in fact - this was practically on the same level as moonraker or any old bond film.
duke / hawk - such terrible acting i'm surprised the studio let it be
destro - best actor of the film
Cobra Commander - i thought he was dr. mindbender...wth?
Snake Eyes /Storm Shadow - someone make a film with just these two it's what everyone wanted to see anyways...and STUDIOS pls. stop wasting Ray Park he is mighty!

the 1st mega battle in the joe base was superior to the climax battle. especially the SE vs.SS and Scarlett Vs.Baroness

yea. it's fun. really. but it's uber dumb too. Why would ice fall that fast upon the cobra base? i guess in this reality massive glaciers don't float? when you need a five mile rope to repel you just dream one up. suspend my belief? more like forget what you know. cool gadgets. fun n' dumb. wooha!

who'd have thought that Star Trek would rule Summer '09

I liked the movie for its ridicilous over the top action and yeah, it was so cheesy yet awesome at the same time. :D I gave it 8/10 even tho there were things that pissed me off such as:
Baroness not being evil because she chose that, but being a slave. Storm Shadow dying was abit bleh too :(
