I was surprised at how much I actually liked this movie. I would give it a 7.5/10. It could have been better but I definitely enjoyed it more than either of the Transformer films. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

The good:

Snake Eyes
Storm Shadow
Baroness (Dispite being the crappiest role of the film)

The Bad:

Chaning Tatum
Dennis Quaid's phoned in performance.
Destro (That had to a lost performence to editing).
International Joes
Jell-O mold Commander
Bad CGI
Was it me or did Destro's mask at the end look like bad silver make-up rather than CGI?
Baroness being Dukes lady, WTF, Selina miller did great with the crap she was handed though
X-men rip off of plot points
2 POV characters discover secret organization that has an underground lair with a red-head scientist type who appears withdrawn and ends with the one who can desguise himself in a position of power
Ice sinking
the fact that minus the few guys on the main force we see, GI Joe HQ is the the biggest international gathering of white dudes ever.

I avoided this movie on principle at first. I had been fooled by Transformers but i still went back for part 2. Fool me once shame on you, fool my twice shame on me. So I just wrote this movie off and went about life. Then i rented it from redbox cause well I was bored and it was a dollar. It was one of the best action movies I've seen. They stayed true to the heart of G.I. Joe and all the characters where recognizable. I await the sequel.

I enjoyed both Transformers films more than this... but ive got to say, it a good action flick... (cgi is downright bad at points tho...)

I saw this movie on DVD recently... posted my official review in that "the last movie you watched" thread, if anyone is interested. All I can say is that it was worse than I possibly thought it could be. And that's a LOT. Those of you who enjoyed it - hey, glad you found something redeeming in the film. I honestly couldn't. To me, it was as bad as the film adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons.

I watched in the past month or so, GI Joe the Animated movie and GI Joe Resolute. Both are significantly better than this movie. :o

both are animated and have a lot more latitude....wasn't Resolute a webisode type thing?? I remember when Cartoon Network aired it

Regardless. ROC had a lot of possibilities and I can give it a second viewing but I still stand that the only good thing about the movie was the portrayal of Storm Shadow.

it did....but Ive been rewatching the original animated series and it was pretty f'n goofy at times....I get that Paramount wanted to do something everyone could watch, especially non-fans and not worry about "canon"...I did watch the commentary and Sommers knows a good amount of the lore, but they had to keep the studio happy...also the writers strike ****ed up a lot of stuff....

I was not aware that no one is allowed to write anything during something like that....no rewrites , no adjustments, nothing

I know how goofy the animated series was. I distinctly remember Snake Eyes dancing or Cobra Commander catching Destro and the Baronness kissing.

I can understand the situation is but regardless of what he knew, keeping the studio happy, and the writer's strike the end result was this was probably the worst movie I saw this year. And I saw Wolverine: Origins. :o

I thought this film felt very much like the animated series. I also liked that Sommer's didn't go as low-brow with the humor unlike what Bay did with the Transformer films, but then again maybe if he had people would have liked it more as it would seem alot of people liked the transformer films. Maybe in the sequel Sommer's should have Hawk farting, Destro in a speedo, Snake Eye's hump Scarlett's leg, Heavy Duty and Ripcord be unable to help bacause they can't read, and have some brass balls placed on the Joe's uniforms add all that with a couple of dogs humping and a buch of explosions and I think they will have a big hit on their hands.

I would pay top dollar to see Dennis Quaid rip one during a mission breifing

I don't understand the whole look at TF 2 excuse.

Let GI Joe stand on it's own merits or lack there of.

I understand a little creative license but there's a difference between that and crappy storyline.

Let's make Baronness good at the end.
Let's make Baronness and Duke a couple.
Let's make Cobra Commander and Baronness siblings.
Marlon Wayans comedy relief. Genius.
Scarlett and Ripcord an item.
Last but not least acceleration suits. What's it accelerate? Hopefully the end of this movie. :down

is it any worse or better than Baronness being a total ho like she was in the cartoon...she's made out with Destro, Shipwreck, Clutch, Alpine, Quick Kick even

I don't mind Cobra Commander and Baronness being siblings...it just didn't bother me as much as I thought it would

what's wrong with Scarlett and Ripcord being an item....a black man can't get some whte sugar?? huh huh?? what you sayin man??!!

Let's make Cobra Commander and Baronness siblings.

That part was so bad. So the main baddy of the Joe's, turns out to be the Baroness's feeble little brother, that turned evil for no real reason?

does anyone really need a reason to turn evil.??...I figure he just snapped and blamed Duke for everything...the one thing they did right with Commander is that it was never his fault...Duke did this, his sister did that, it was everyone was making him do this

I don't even like it when they put Scarlett with Duke. Snake Eyes and Scarlett. :o Although, for a second I thought they redeemed themselves when they had Scarlett hanging on Snake Eyes.

I haven't watched the deleted scenes from Star Trek where they show more of the back story of Nero which shows you why he is the way he is.

But sometimes just saying, hey they are just evil is enough. They didn't need to show Destro's ancestor's history or show Cobra Commander as somewhat normal, but no evidence before that explosion that he was malicious. And he purposely stayed in that bunker, to learn more about Mindbender's experiments. I don't see why he would blame Duke and he didn't even blame Duke when he saw him.

Scarlett was all on Dukes jock at the end of Resolute....Im surprised she didn't just come out and say "**** Snake Eyes"

She essentially did when Duke told her to choose. It bothered me but not as much, and it was mostly because it was Marlon Wayans. :whatever:

well in defense of black actors....its probably huge, so I can't blame Scarlett

I didn't mind that they hooked up, it was just that they had no chemistry. I swear... when they share their "romantic" kiss, Rachel Nichols' eyes were open. That's passion for ya.

I don't blame Wayans... he actually wasn't bad. Nichols is a terrible actress though. Between this and that parking garage killer movie, I think she should just give up acting. I think her best role to date was as the green-skinned babe in Star Trek.

I think she works better on TV...ive seen her on various tv shows (guest spots) and she's not half bad there...some tv actors just can't make the jump to film

Let's make Baronness good at the end.

It was mainly done to neatly tie up the Duke/Baroness subplot in the off chance that there is no sequel. That said, I can almost guarantee you that her being 'good' will be reversed should a sequel be made; possibly even all part of Cobra Commander's master plan.

Let's make Baronness and Duke a couple.

It was to justify getting Duke and Ripcord into the Joes. Remember; the only reason they got in was because Duke bribed Hawk with information on her.

Let's make Cobra Commander and Baronness siblings.

As supposed to making Snake Eyes the center of the universe a la the comics?

Marlon Wayans comedy relief. Genius.

Personally, I found him tolerable. His humor actually worked for the movie's setting.

Last but not least acceleration suits. What's it accelerate? Hopefully the end of this movie. :down

Bad name, perhaps. However, need I point out that the actual U.S. military has been actively researching this very type of technology for almost fifty years?

I don't even like it when they put Scarlett with Duke. Snake Eyes and Scarlett. :o Although, for a second I thought they redeemed themselves when they had Scarlett hanging on Snake Eyes.

Actually, if you want to go strictly by original canon (the original toyline), none of the Joes were romantically involved with one another. The cartoons often paired Scarlett with Duke where as the comics paired her off with Snake Eyes. Seeing as how there is no universal pair whatsoever, they were completely within their right to switch things up.

And if they didn't show Destro's ancestry, you can bet that there would be people complaining how they messed that up instead. There's no pleasing everyone. As for Cobra commander's sudden turn to evilness, they didn't give an explanation because there wasn't one. He's just a screwed up, mind-messing psychopath; exactly like he's been portrayed in all versions of him.

I'm not understanding people's complaints about this movie not sticking to the source material. G.I.Joe for me was always about a team of highly trained soldiers who take on the terrorist organization of Cobra, isn't that exactly what happened in this film?

the accelerator suits are no worse than GI Joe and Cobra fighting with hang gliders
