BvS Gal Gadot IS Wonder Woman! - Part 13

Snyder and Gadot have been collaborating for years. Who could forget their classic film "Doesn't Exist," and its sequel "Never Happened?"
You are a scholar and a gentleman Sir Boom.
Sadly sex does sell to the mass audience though unfortunately. See Fast Furious or Transformers. Or even Twilight or Magic Mike for the other side.

Edit: Also I don't think you can attribute WW's comic sales to objectification. Azarello and Chiang are doing a fine job.
This. I am a proponent of th skirt or pants but the way Hollywood thinks has me a bit worried

The way Hollywood thinks is terrible, but it has been proven wrong more and more lately. Non-sexbot females characters are to starting to become popular. Some of the biggest movies of recent times have featured them. Times are changing and thank goodness for that. I just hope things keep going in that direction and that WW isn't left behind (like she usually is in the comics). If they reduce DC's major female hero to a pair of short-short-wearing dainty ass cheeks...I may join the Black Widow/Marvel train and never get off.

I would hope she is shown more respect than dainty ass cheeks shorts and a plate push up bra. :csad: Personally I would prefer they put her in pants. If they want to make them extremely tight pants, by all means go ahead, but I just cant behind the super tiny shorts. I found ScarJo to be perfectly sexy and she was fully clothed! It can be done.

I think Snyder and Wilkinson are smart enough to not make Wonder Woman wear that ridiculous original comicbook costume because it's going to look stupid, trampy and unserious in live action. The character can be sexy without looking like a damn fool.

See The Hunger Games, Gravity, The Avengers (and its sequels), Man of steel, Cap 2, 300, the Nolan bat trilogy...

My point remains.

There is no need to reduce women to eye-candy to sell things. Yes, it sells to certain people. But, female characters done properly (or ones that are at least not objectified) sell to others and that group is decently sized now. They shouldn't just target WW at the group they think wants scantily clad females. It won't make as much money as it would if they targeted it towards more people.

And if WW's skimpy costume makes no difference to people who buy her comics, why won't they change it? If comics aren't being targeted at a certain group that DC thinks want her to keep wearing a swimsuit, give her some goddamned clothes and call it a day. Azzarello and Chiang are more popular because they are trying to play down the sex factor and I wouldn't doubt they would change her costume if allowed.
Well you kind of answered your own question, didn't you?

We're not all monsters, us men! But I think we ended up agreeing with each other a while ago. I think we share the same want of seeing WW get the same kind of visual redefinement as what Cav-El and Batfleck received. I'll just post my sketch again. I think it's still got to be recognizably WW.

To be fair Blade has strong female protagonist that are never objectified, X-Men too(with the exception of Mystique at least) and Avengers.

I certainly hope so.

My point is that there is a group that DC comics targets with those scantily clad WW images in comics. That audience exists. But it's not big enough to sustain a live-action WW solo movie. The GA (much bigger than the group that reads WW) is starting to come around to female characters that aren't so objectified (as shown in popular films like the Avengers and The Hunger Games). Therefore, they need to think about how they will market her to a wider audience. Such a way could include these:

1) Good writers and actors
2) Let her wear some damn clothes.

Of course we agree on some stuff. My point isn't that "men are monsters." It's what I said above.

Yes, those are good too.

I, for one, have pre-teen daughters, who are huge CBM fans. I have no intention of taking them to see the movie, if she is scantily clad. This will put me in their dog house. But rules is rules.

Totally. I'm not sure about Avengers, but certainly other Disney films like Mulan and Frozen, as well as The Hunger Games and Gravity. I'd like to think the popularity of these films might change the corporate thinking behind female-led genre films.

I worry more about Gal's acting chops than her look though. I've got trust in Snyder to get the visual right. I just hope Gal can lead her own film.

Mystique is never really objectified though. Yeah, she's naked but not just for the boys lol.

It works for her character.
But yeah, X-men is good in that sense, and of course Avengers. Even though theres only one female character. But, she's awesome and one of my faves.

I don't totally trust Snyder with the visual stuff just yet. I feel like I should after MOS (no objectified females in that at all), but I don't totally. I do have hope that he'll pull it off though.

As for Gal, I don't know what to think since she hasn't done much. Hope is all I have for her too, I guess.

I can't think of a superhero movie that has objectified women.

They could show her in a bikini once. If women and gay guys get to see Superman run around without a shirt, the rest of us can get Wonder Woman in a bikini. It's only fair. :cwink:

^ Catwoman?

Superhero movies are better with that than comics though because they target wider audiences, like I said above.

Faora was beautiful, sexy and badass. About the only skin I remember seeing was her face. I'm more confident than most I suppose.

But the mindset behind her design was always meant to be risqué. They could have put her in a white or black leather like everyone else but they chose something that they knew would be sleek and sexy. Your right that she was never objectified but definitely was always meant to be sexy.

Skintight black leather is always sexier than being half-naked. :woot:

^ Sure, but there's line of taste. Halle Berry in a leather bra carrying a whip crossed right into camp/ridiculous territory. It was just...yuck.

Actually it had more to do with achieving her transformation effect. They talk about it in the extras on X1 I believe.

Plus, that's kind of Mystique's thing. She uses sex appeal, and actual sex for that matter, as weapon/tool of manipulation in the comics. If anything, the movies have downplayed it.

I will have to re watch that because I don't remember it. Also I don't buy that logic. She transforms back to her blue form from a clothed person so what would it matter? What would have changed if RR WAS in a bodysuit like JLaw for instance? They chose a very specific take to look more sexy. The first film has an backside shot of RR that was gratuitous.

I'm not saying the films are gratuitous just that the thought process behind the design was meant to be a bit salacious to attract young men. Fan service, if you will. There is a reason they cast one of the hottest women in the world at the time as her.
