Game Awards 2024

Fallout had better win Best Adaptation. It shouldn’t even be a question.

As for GOTY, controversy aside, Shadow of the Erdtree was amazing and it’s the only one of the noms that I played so I have to hope it wins. It’s not perfect but it’s still a fantastic DLC and it’s bigger than a lot of whole games out there. And if it wins, maybe it will prompt Miyazaki to do more Elden Ring stuff, even though he supposedly hates doing sequels.

Well, better hope Fromsoft doesn't get bought by Sony then.

The game already won. So, I guess, why does an expansion to said game get to allow the game to win again? Its why remakes have a hard climb to be nominated.

As to the Sony thing, yeah I hope that doesn’t happen simply because I have an XBox Series X and not a PS5, though by the time the next FromSoft game comes out it will probably be for the next gen consoles anyway (and XBox might get out of the console game altogether).

As for the game winning again, yeah, it’s not fair. But maybe the Game Awards should reassess how they choose nominees and remakes should get more of a fair shake. And other, really expansive DLCs like Phantom Liberty could have been nominated for GOTY. But there has to be a first one, right? I guess if Phantom Liberty had been the one to get a GOTY nomination, people would have been upset then too. Maybe it wouldn’t have been as controversial since the base game didn’t win GOTY, but let’s be real; it didn’t deserve to.

Elden Ring is kind of a phenomenon in that regard. It kind of united the Soulsbourne-beat-every-game-at-level-1-with-a-loincloth-and-a-club diehards and the more casual players who beef their characters up to level 2000 and get the strongest gear they can find (spoiler: I’m in the latter group). And the game was so groundbreaking that FromSoft managed to captivate their entire audience for about 2 years before releasing the DLC, and then when they did, it was more massive than anyone expected. I have my criticisms of it but I also think it really pushes the limits of what a DLC can be and games that attempt to put out big expansions will have to up their game (no pun intended) if they want to be compared to it. That matters, or at least I think so.

I just don't think its a good reflection of current games, when a DLC of an early 2023 game is nominated for GOTY in late 2024. And its even worse if it ends up as the winner.

I'm sure the DLC is probably good, but if thats what the industry or a group of people find as the best game of 2024, then... there were definitely better years for gaming, than this one.

If a DLC is treated like a separate game and being nominated for GOTY, that says something about the decline of the games industry right there. "We don't make enough new games that people think are great enough to be nominated, so we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for anything that is highly regarded, even if its DLC for an existing game"

He's right about Satisfactory... It should have gotten a nom.

To be fair, the DLC is very standalone and I think this is more of a commentary on the quality of the DLC then anything else. I'd vote for FF7 Rebirth myself.

I'm proud to say I've played most of those games.

Looking forward to play Astro Bot, Forbidden West, Spider-Man 2 and Ragnarök next year, when i finally catch up to Ps5 games!

Is anyone actually surprised that The Game Awards are ****ing clown shoes again? They've been a joke since their inception.

I didn't even know they had a pre-show for this ****. That sounds like the most boring thing ever.

Gotta to have a discount tier for games to advertise. And don't have the lesser awards stink up the main event.

The stuff the Dorito Pope doesn't care about.

New 2D Ninja Gaiden from the Streets of Rage 4/Shredder's Revenge crew. That's awesome.
