Game of Thrones - Book Readers' Thread - Part 18

Was at London Film and Comic-Con yesterday and there was a GoT panel with Finn Jones (Loras), Gethin Anthony (Renly), Daniel Portman (Podrick), Will Tudor (Olivar, the gay prostitute who screws Oberyn and Loras) and Kristain Nairn (Hodor). One of the questions was what they think the White Walkers want and pretty much all of them said they think they're evil zombies or whatever, but Finn mentioned the baby scene at the end of Episode 4 and referred to the figure as the Night's King. Maybe he just reads speculation or maybe he knows something concrete, but it's something nonetheless.

It was on HBO's episode guide too but then they edited it, also the people who did the ice scultures referred the character as a King. I'm kinda bummed how the general audience just seems them as evil Zombies.

I read that an artist met with George to get an idea of what the Others look like. He was illustrating a calendar, I think. The artist left the meeting with a better idea of what the Others didn't look like.

Once the cold winds rise, I'm hoping that the Others are revealed to be as nuanced as the human players in the game.

I'm about halfway through the first book. Not a huge difference from the show but it is a good read.

Walder Frey said that a Stark told him that they might be seeing each other soon.

It was the showrunners who told him that I read?

Maybe she's coming...I can think of two Starks, one more likely than the other two run into him...but she's still got business to tend to elsewhere while the other is more unlikely.

Since he says the person who told him was one of the Starks he killed, the only options are Catelyn and Robb.

Hopefully a hint towards LS happening in Season 5, and the Red Wedding 2.0 theory coming to fruition.

If SH is being kept under wraps in the show but her main purpose in the books is to show why you don't ****ing break guest rights then seeing her get her hands on old man Walder would be epic. And considering how he's arguably the only really memorable Frey in the show right now, maybe SH makes her return in one episode then moves immediately to take the Twins and plunge the Riverlands once more into anarchy, but with her brother freed.

'Game of Thrones' season 5 directors chosen
By James Hibberd on Jul 15, 2014 at 5:00PM

Who will command the Game of Thrones production army next season?

There are five directors, each charged with helming two episodes each in season 5. Back in the mix this year: David Nutter, who directed the incredible “The Rains of Castamere” episode (aka The Red Wedding) in season 3. Nutter returns to helm next year’s ever-crucial ninth episode and the season 5 finale.

Absent from the list this round: Alex Graves, who directed four episodes last season, and Neil Marshall, who scored an Emmy nomination last week for his work on the ninth episode of season 4, “The Watchers on The Wall” (aka The Battle of Castle Black). Also taking a break this season are showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who previously directed an episode each. In fact, aside from Nutter, all the directors next season are new to the show. Below is the list of Thrones directors for season 5, exclusively on EW.com:

Episodes 501 and 502: Michael Slovis (episodes of AMC’s Breaking Bad, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU)
Episodes 503 and 504: Mark Mylod (episodes of Showtime’s Shameless and HBO’s Entourage)
Episodes 505 and 506: Jeremy Podeswa (episodes of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Showtime’s The Tudors)
Episodes 507 and 508: Miguel Sapochnik (episodes of Fox’s House and Fringe)
Episodes 509 and 510: David Nutter (known as “the pilot whisperer” for his track record in getting pilots picked up to series; Nutter directed four epiosdes of Thrones, plus many other shows)
Surprised no Michelle MacLaren, with the HBO deal she just signed.

Much of the fandom (Well, the people over at Westeros.org) seem fixated on the motif of revenge tied to LSH. I'm more interested in the idea of a peasant army, under the leadership of the Brotherhood Without Banners, pulling off Red Wedding 2.0 and taking the Riverlands from the Freys. Having her unveiled when she goes after Lord Frey would be a bigger WTF moment for the viewers than her hanging random Freys.

What's the Red Wedding 2.0 theory?

Not sure how I feel about the blu-ray being 4 discs. They've got 4 episodes crammed on disc 4 for ****s sake.

What's the Red Wedding 2.0 theory?

Basically, Tom O'SevenStreams (or however you write it) has infiltrated Riverrun as per AFFC, where a wedding between Daven Lannister (the Warden of the West) and an unknown Frey is set to take place. There's a theory that the rest of the BWB are going to infiltrate Riverrun at some point in TWOW and slaughter a bunch of Lannisters and Freys as vengeance for the Red Wedding. Hopefully Walder Frey will be in attendance.

I find that theory to be wishful-thinking bull****. Walder Frey is dying peacefully in his sleep.

Eh, it's wishful thinking but if someone presented a theory that Stannis was marching on Winterfell with a Stark in tow and a plan to slaughter a host of Boltons and Freys, with the rest of the Northern Lords planning to back him, I expect most fans would call that wishful thinking as well. It makes sense for the story.

So Sean Bean wants to come back!
He wants to do flashbacks.

I'm looking at you, weirwood vision....

The only "evidence" of a Red Wedding 2.0 is that the BWB is killing Freys, they have a spy in the camp outside Riverrun, and there's an upcoming Lannister/Frey wedding at the Twins.

That's decent evidence. More evidence for it happening than Cleganebowl.

Could Season 5's episode 9 be both the Daznak Pit and the Mutiny at Castle Black? Could Season 6 have the budget for two big fights?

Well, I don't actually believe in Cleganebowl :o I think, no matter whether she won or lost her trial, Kevan had plans to return her to Casterly Rock. She's bat**** crazy and made his job a hell of a lot harder but she's a Lannister nonetheless. So now that Kevan's dead that plan is quickly put in motion and Cersei is smuggled out of King's Landing, accompanied by Robert Strong.

I think it will, and Episode 10 will end with Daenerys flying Drogon and meeting the Khalasar. Even though they don't meet, Tyrion and Dany being that close to each other is a HUGE deal for show watchers. Plus the event of Daznak's Pit itself is big enough. If E09 is called 'The Pink Letter' I might cry. :csad:
