" — you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt."

The words of a man who would burn his daughter for ****s and giggles.

I just want him destroyed. He deserves that. He's a sadistic bastard with a messiah complex who burns people alive. He isnt a good guy. He is just a SOB and a hypocrite.

Well for starters, a sadist derives pleasure from inflicting pain on others, and in the books it's made abundantly clear that burning people does not please Stannis at all. Quite the contrary, it troubles him immensely. And a messiah complex? Nothing he says or does implies that he believes what Melisandre is selling. He knows she has magic that can be utilised as a weapon, but it's pretty clear that Stannis is straight up an atheist who hates the concept of Gods. He sees himself as the rightful king, which he is in the Baratheon dynasty, and sees it as his obligation as the legal monarch of that dynasty to fulfil his duties as king, which he is doing by fighting against the corrupt region of the Lannisters/Freys/Boltons and avenging the deaths of Robert and Ned.

Really this whole rant is just weird,Marv. I get that you like the show, but this is bordering on ignorance. A lot of these claims seem as though they came from someone who has only had a cursory glance at the books, and not actually looked at the text. Stannis is by no means a peachy clean character, but the material makes it pretty clear that he's got a lot of worth as a human being and as a ruler.

In A Clash of Kings, the first words out Stannis' mouth in reference to the R'hllorists: "How many swords will your lord of light place in my hand?" That doesn't sound like a fanatic.

Now, I'm coming around to the changes made for show. Strictly because the motif of sacrificing a loved one calls to mind a number of other fictional characters I enjoy, including Roland Deschain, Elric, and to a lesser extent Erekose.

Marvolo, I like you, I really do, but you're way off the mark with this one. In the books, Stannis rallying all the Northern lords to do battle with the Bolton forces feels much more realistic that the way that they did it in the show, where he just charges into the open with just his own personal forces when he's supposed to be a tactical genius. The thing is, I feel like the Northern lords would be much more likely to rally around Stannis than Jon, since he is of higher birth. And making Jon the savior of the North and Stannis a total *****e dilutes the grey morality that GRRM established for his universe.

Yep. Its terrible writing to boot, but I guess it inexplicably wins emmys.

This is why i'm worried this is turning into the Jon and Daenerys show where characters like Littefinger will loose their flair and made into one dimensional villains or goody two shoes.

oh, i thought that was what has been happening for 2 years now :hehe:

Ah the curse of shows becoming popular and creators wanting to please the general audiences. :csad:

GRRM shipped it too.. watch his Cocteau interview with Kit... he is all for Jon Snow and Dany.

I'm worried about the same. I wasn't convinced by the portrayal of Littlefinger last season. I think he'd find a way to work toward his goal of ruling the world and also pursue his infatuation with Sansa, rather than just handing Sansa off to somebody else to wed.

Another well-composed post from the Warden of the North.

has there been any worthy to discuss news lately? I knew they cast Jhoqo (apparently) and some woman who i don't know who she could be.

Sue reports that the actress is playing a red priestess in Meereen. Scenes show Meereenese flocking to her. There's also going to be a famine as part of the Meereen plot. And there was a scene of Varys departing Meereen by ship.

There's some new graffiti in Meereen. Right next to that "KILL THE MASTERS" is "MHYSA IS A MASTER."

Meanwhile, Dany isn't there so thanks Obama!
