Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Neither of them are supposed to be heroic, in theory. But Varys has kind of received a heroic upgrade by being paired off with Tyrion so much and his more negative traits given to Qyburn...the problem with that is that it makes his motivations far less coherent and removes a lot of ambiguity. In the books I'll be happy when he dies, whereas in the show I'll probably shrug and move on.

Ive always liked Varys and enjoy his character. Littlefinger on the other hand was a pervy creep. The way he creeped on Cat and Sansa made my skin crawl.

I feel the same way, too. :(

Varys in the show seems to be about the greater good for the kingdom. Varys will lie, scheme and kill but at least it is in the service of what he thinks is best for the people.

Littlefinger just craved power. He did things in the service of securing the iron throne for himself. Baelish may of had feelings for Cat and Sansa but he still used them as pawns in his quest for the iron throne.

I think so too. I don't even think he had a single line in the finale. I wanna see him survive as the Hand or the Hand of the Hand.
Yep.

Hand of the Hand lol.

I love them both. Littlefinger has been a great villain character throughout the show for me and I loved his scenes with Varys early on.

They were also written realistically as a military force in the early seasons and not as unstoppable as presented now.

There aren't any Dothraki characters any more.

^ Which is odd considering Dany still had a couple living Dothraki still with her at the end of season 2.

I rolled my eyes hard when Jamie talked about them like they were a race of ten-foot tall supermen. Like, to say they are unparalleled as cavalry would have been fine, but these guys are more used to fighting among themselves and raiding farmers, no?

Any depth or cultural exploration was too long ago by this point, as the khalasaar has been gone since season 3. Now they just stand there and sneer at people.

The current leaders of the Dothraki should have a personality and at least one of them should be in a Grey Worm style role where we see them interact with Dany IMO. They have recently been written off as just a bunch of savages when we got to see more through her relationship with Drogo in season 1.

As for Jaime's opinions I guess they haven't had real exposure to the Dothraki for a fair while so some of it is almost down to bigging them up on the basisof myth and history.

Yes, she could have been a good bridge between these new Dothraki leaders and Dany.

That one Dothraki I assume is the commander of the Dothraki cavalry. Dany shouldnt need Irri or another Dothraki to be the bridge between Dany and her cavalry commander. At this point they should have a repetoir and understanding of one another. When Dany was at Dragonstone there needed to be a scene prior to her attacking Jaime's caravan with her discussing battleplans with Greyworm and that one Dothraki. Greyworm giving his opinion on infantry plans and that one Dothraki giving his opinion on cavalry plans. That would have established that one Dothraki clearly as the commander of the cavalry and show that Dany values his advice and experience as much as Greyworm's advice and experience.

I dont give a **** about the rest of the dothraki or the unsullied. They are pure canon fodder. But the show does need to give the dothraki cavalry a face. A commander. One with some personality or input in the war plans. If that one glaring mute is in fact intended to be the commander of the cavalry he needs to have a speaking role in season 8.

Yes! And I think the first step towards progress would be if we had something to call him aside from "that one Dothraki". :funny:

In the mean time, we could call him Tod. Short for That One Dothraki.:hehe:

Nice cover. I hope HBO gives this season a UHD 4K release. They are doing that for Westworld.

Are they likely to rerelease the previous seasons in 4K?

oh yeah that is bad. Im hoping for a Best Buy exclusive although Im uncertain of what they could do with most of the houses fallen

Id bet money they will. Might take them a while but they will get around to it eventually. Hopefully they will release season 7 on UHD this year and then release seasons 1-6 on UHD next year before season 8 premieres.

Im dreading the cost tho. I expect GOT on UHD to have an SRP of $60 - $80. With retailers selling each season for $45 -
$60. Which would put the cost for all 8 seasons at about $400 - $500.

Looks fanmade to me. (or it's a placeholder)

Could be a placeholder. I expected this image to be the cover:
