Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

I dropped things off at my sister place the other day and she started watching the show for the first time a few weeks back. Funny enough, it was the red wedding episode. I stayed a bit longer just to watch her reaction and it was priceless to see. I also feel sad. How one of my favorite series ever was so tarnished towards the end, I can’t rewatch it again entirely.

I started rewatching the series last week. Only saw them all once.

My brain kind of tuned out halfway through season 8 on my last rewatch but I can still confidently say that the whole show is worth watching even with the ending.

I've felt that the ending, exactly as it is, would have been more palatable if seasons 7 and 8 were 10 episodes each to allow for enough buildup to how Daenerys's storyline ended.

What cracks me up is that there's absolutely no need for him to go public with his grievances. It could have been a private email to the showrunners, writing staff and HBO/WBD execs. At the end of the day I don't think he's as mad about it as he was with D&D for the end of GOT. After all, he was perfectly happy to visit the set to see his face carved in a tree, and I'm sure that at this point he knew exactly what was in the cards for their season 2 plans.

I also don't think this would even have happened if Zaslav and company didn't cheap out and let them have two more episodes to finish out the season on a major action setpiece and a big finale. There still would have been complaints about episodes 5-8 but if the season had a proper ending to stick the landing it would have helped a lot.

And people can say, "It's Zaslav/WBD. They're still gonna cheap out with season 3", which is something to prepare for but in that case then why would they move forward with Aegon's Conquest, a show which would require an even more extravagant budget than House of the Dragon.

To be fair, his character ended up okay in the finale so of course he's okay with it. If you compartmentalize it and break it down according to characters, Tyrion, Sansa, Arya and basically anyone who was sitting on the small council at the end of the series ended up fine.

The finale itself isn't all that bad on its own I guess. It's mostly how they got there through the previous two seasons (and parts of the two before that) which was terrible. Then again, I don't know if you can separate things like Bran being chosen to be king from him previously saying that he can never be lord of anything. It's all one whole.

So HOTD Season 2 got me in the mood to rewatch this and while the last season is still my least favorite of the 8 like it is for most people, I still really love this show for the most part. Seasons 3 and 4 are just top tier television period and I can see myself constantly revisiting those seasons down the line.

The first two seasons are great too, but I just find the first halves of those seasons a little too slow for my taste and honestly, I'd rather rewatch Seasons 5, 6 and even 7 over those as far as enjoyment goes.

I'm actually kind of surprised that Season 6 still gets so much hate even today because it has some of the most epic/memorable moments in the show and Ramsay was a great villain IMO.

Season 8 should have been a lot better, but I don't hate it and there are three episodes out of that season that I actually really like but Daenerys going mad was definitely rushed at not earned.

At this point I've seen much worse endings for shows though.

I would have supported this. The only other sort of television feature I can think of that did something like this is High school musical

Can someone please explain how this would've saved the worst scene of season 8? A movie wouldn't have necessarily made the Battle of Winterfell look better.

Fandomwire is really garbage. Nothing but nonsense clickbait and speculation.

I'd like to believe the story would have been told more properly instead of going for the smallest common denominator, or whatever it is they say.

and unfortunately, that is also true.

Random post.
The funny thing (so to speak ) is that the TV show ending for Daenerys may be the only ending for the author is no way near to finish the books.
