Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Yeah and Sam's proof isnt worth much to a bunch of Northerners. All Sam has is a Maester's diary, right? A Maester's word isnt as sacrosanct in the North.

So whose heart sank when Cersei gave Bronn the crossbow?

We all know how this is gonna go.

But how to prove it?

Sansa and Arya have had many samples of 3ER/Bran's visions and their accuracy now, and so I believe they will heed him, and then perhaps the other lords will fall in from there. The 3ER seems to think this revelation is important to the grand plan because he's really been pressing for it since season 6, so even if Jon is quiet and reluctant I don't see Bran staying silent about it.

Also Meera's father, Howland Reed was Ned's friend and confidante, and he is the only living witness to the Tower of Joy adventure, so he can testify to Jon's true parentage if need be. I suspect we may see him, because if the North is lost they may have to pull back to his stronghold, Greywater Watch, in The Narrows --where the continent forms a more defensible bottleneck.

I would rather see this place (as a fresh location), than our heroes hanging out on the dreery, old Pyke set...even though Yara's line seems to be pointing to that as a potential refuge -ugh! :yuk:

Maybe not. I think despite his mercurial nature Bron likes both Jaimie and Tyrion. A lot. He's also a practical man. He's going to go North which means the stakes of the battle against the Night King's forces might be right there in his face. If he confronts that he may make the decision that whatever he's got promised to him in King's landing isn't worth crap if the Walkers go south. He's not a fool. Hell I kinda think just seeing someone like the Hound allied with the Starks and Danys might make him wonder about the stakes. If a right SOB and purely practical guy like Sandro Clegane is throwing in with this, if Tyrion and Jaimie are willing to go along, if the forces of Danys are taking the time to rally to Jon Dnow over smashing down the Lannisters... He could factor all that in and think it's better to fight for the living or at least realize how important Tyrion and Jaimie are to the success of the conflict and leave them alive to ensure his and everyone else's survival.

On another note, I'm pretty sure I saw in the preview next week that a trebuchet is being fired during the day. It's got me thinking one of two things will happen.

They are only testing the trebuchet.

Or
the Golden Company arrives during the day and begins besieging Winterfell before the Army of the Dead arrives.

But Idk how that fits with what we saw in the trailer of the Northern army lined up outside the walls calmly waiting when the army of the dead arrive. Any recent leaks or info how this plays out? I've read some older leaks but I'm still not clear how this is going to go.

I'm not clear on whether the GC qill arrive and pretend to be friendly until the dead attack and then turn on the North or if the GC will attack right when they get to Winterfell.

Yeah I don't see Bronn honoring his deal with Cersei. It's becoming increasingly more obvious that her reign will be short, regardless of who wins in the North, and he's no fool.

So, I'm watching the "Game revealed" video on YT... I guess I missed that Arya was so in love in Gendry, she thought she'd spend the rest of her life with him or whatever.

Bran giving Tyrion a “look” is a foreshadowing, right? Of him doing some
betraying
?

I think we're going to find out exactly what Tyrion and Cersei discussed in her office. Bran probably went back and listened in on their conversation once he found out a Lannister army was coming to Winterfell.

I blieve i m not ready for the next episode because like the promos and trailer teased many will die in this episode

I would imagine he would try to keep it a secret until the very end.

I suspect there'll be some awkward tension between Jon and Dany next week... but I think they have too many pressing issues to worry about it right away. With that said, I bet it all comes out in episode 4. We know episode 5 is the climax of the series (I think), and episode 6 is more like the denouement, so I feel like this is the type of revelation that will shake all the surviving characters to their cores in the fourth episode. Then again, maybe Dany if not the Northern lords find out next week to create tension between herself and Jon before the big battle?

Well... One way to ensure the Northern lords stay in line and have them rally fully to the cause would be to reveal their proclaimed King in the North is in fact the rightful King of all the Seven Kingdoms.

No, I think that would make things worse. They think Jon Snow is a Stark in all but name, but when they found out they made a TARGARYEN King in the North, they'd have more than buyer's remorse... especially since this King in the North surrendered his crown to... another Targaryen. All the innuendo and whispers about Jon betraying them for "love" would only grow since everyone knows about the Targaryen's need for incest. They'd consider him an imposter who pretended to be a Stark to betray them all.

My guess is that is how it will exactly play out too in the fourth episode or so, and it will be up to Sansa to smooth things over, which will be how Jon and Sansa's friction will finally be resolved. Daenerys, of course, will be the much bigger problem.

You can breathe easy.

The Battle of Winterfell is episode 3 directed by the guy that directed Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards. Epispde 2 is gonna be more preperation and politics. My guess is Episode 2 will end on a cliffhanger when the dead horse legs step into frame (last shot of the trailer). Episode 3 will begin with the start of the battle.

Ooh. Yes this is interesting.

He's also the son of Lyanna Stark though. He still has Northern blood. There could well be pride that a person of Northern descent would sit upon the Iron Throne (if they all live to see that day given the whole zombie army thing of course) and just on a practical level there would be thoughts about how the North and it's elite would have more influence upon the rest of Westeros with a born and bred Northman sitting as king. Some may see the chance to become important councilors and getting a measure of control over the wealth of the continent.

Qyburn: Poor girl. The pox will take her within the year. Bronn: Which one?

... You know, I think you just described how Sansa is going to rally the North to Jon after the doubting starts. Assuming, of course, that any or all of them live to see the dawn, as you say.

Indeed, and at least one respected Northern lord and Stark bannerman (whom the others will heed) can vouch for his true identity and claim.

In the books, he definitely will (assuming George ever makes it this far...), but I think in the show, for expediency's sake they'll just make it Sam and Bran who convinces everyone. Logically, Howland Reed makes more sense, but viewers have no idea who that is, so the show will go for the more dramatically satisfying, if less logical, alternative. (Obviously the show could've set Howland up several seasons ago in the present timeline, but instead they wrote Meera out.)

True. And with the condensed episode count, I doubt they'll bring him in. The harp in the crypt theory may come into play.

Speaking of Meera though, was anyone else annoyed by Bran's sudden emotionless act? The other Three Eyed Raven seemed capable of normal emotion, and Bran also was still acting normal after the "download" and he escaped the Night King under the tree. It was something that just came out of nowhere in season 7.

They did already introduce Howland in that first Tower of Joy flashback, and he has been mentioned a few times so there is little bit of set up for him, and it wouldn't cost (the writers, the audience, the story) very much to have him step forth and say something supportive if necessary. No more than it was to have old Manderly show up and voice his opinion at the gathering of lords in Se06Ep10. No big deal.

But I still like the idea of retreating to Greywater Watch and giving us a little more.
