Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Also, I remember reading one of the alleged ''leaks'' while this was being filmed last year, and a lot of those leaks and episodes descriptions are on the money, so far. That leak also has

both jon and dany dying. Tyrion throwing some dragon eggs into the sea. lol

the box that the wight was in was locked though lol

The bloodied face of scared-****less Arya tells everything about the next episode. It's gonna be epic massacre.

Rooting for the good guy Night King. He's about to break the wheel.

Something the last episodes needed was Jaime or someone calling out just how weird and spaced Bran is. He rolls around acting like a valium addicted creep, spouting the most bizarre prescient ****, and none of those people even once ask if Bran is completely full of **** or touched in the head? Most of the people know the kid took a high dive right onto his head. But they just buy into his every word. Someone questioning his sanity or behavior could have been a funny moment. And then Bran just drops the bombshell to the commanders that he's marked by the NK himself and everyone's like, "Well, that doesnt bare further scrutiny at all."

With Bran revealing that he is connected to the NK, I wonder if that will make Dany doubt his credibility more? I wonder if it will make her question if Bran is working with the NK?

Also I wonder what Bran's planning to use the weirwood tree to do once the NK is there? I dont think he's just bait. He could he bait anywhere in the castle, but he chose to lure the NK to the weirwood. The thing that let's him look through time and space.

yeah I agree the tree will play a part in the battle but again with the secretive plans being withheld IMO for no reason yeah I know probably to save it for the audience but it makes no logical sense for him to withhold any info about the battle he potentially knows and maybe he is working with NK who knows but I know I'm consumed by what may happen I can't even get through a day at work without asking "so you think Bran will warg into a dragon next episode" tohave someone tell me you need to concentrate on work lol

then while i'm walking away "they better not kill Tyrion or Arya "

I thought S8E2 was a great episode, with Brienne's Knighting ranking up there as one of the most memorable GoT moments of all time.

A few more observations:
- Daenerys is almost becoming villain-like in her obsession with the Iron Throne. It's as if they're setting up a confrontation between her and the North after the White Walkers are defeated. Or should I say if! And if there is any semblance of civilisation afterwards too.
- The around-the-fire drinks and the montage of scenes with Podrick signing in the background was really good and touching.

I've felt that the writing of the show has gone down a bit in quality when they haven't had any novels to rely on, but this far the final season has not been part of this trend.

Again a great episode that really displays the strength of the characters in this story. I'm sure the next episode will be a great and epic battle, but what will make it possible to be great is all the character work done before so everything has meaning.

I thought the dialogue lacked weight in the first episode, but significantly picked up in E2, especially the second half.

LOL, Tormund has gone on to become just a downright awesome character. Funny and comedic when he needs to be, then vicious the next moment. I can see him doing a heroic sacrifice in the next episode.

I hope not, because there goes the comic relief, and then what will D&D fill time with?

Despite your scorn and dislike, 3ER/Bran is a transcendental being now who has already proved his accuracy to Arya and Sansa, the latter being the commanding Lady of Winterfell. That's a strong endorsement, and the others have obviously been briefed in between the scenes. Most of the lords have heard him speak openly in the hall. When Daenerys arrived in the courtyard, Bran told her that the Wall was breached and that Viserion is a wight now.

He can use his ability anywhere now that he's fully the 3-Eyed Raven. He saw into Littlefinger's past when he was given the dagger inside Winterfell in front of a fireplace ("Chaos is a ladder" quote), and again in the hall when Littlefinger was under trial. He visited the secret wedding of Rhaegar and Lyanna while he was with Sam inside the castle in front of the fireplace again.

And he can't be bait just anywhere. The plan was to lure the NK into an open space so that he could be ambushed by their dragons and projectile weapons. Recall Arya asking Bran if dragonfire would work against the NK. It's not a terribly wise plan IMO, but that is what was decided in their final war council.

The NK walked through dragon fire last season and it just retreated around him. Unless they are planning to have Drogon bite him into tiny pieces or sit on him it wont work. Even if it would work, the dragon fire would roast every living person and thing in the grove. Bran and everyone would be dead. And projectile weapons would work better in a restricted tunnel or hallway because the NK would have less space to move in i.e. shooting fish in a barrel. The grove makes no sense as a trap unless Bran's planning to use the weirwood magic.

Your bald blue dude will get impaled onto that tree. Believe that.

That fire was from the burning corpses of wights. He did not take a shot directly from a dragon, a source of magic in itself, and I think that might make a difference. Perhaps we'll find out whether it does or not in a few days.

And I disagree, tactically-speaking. Look at a map of Winterfell. Multiple archers and spearmen on the walls surrounding the Godswood would have an excellent chance of nailing him from every side -including his exposed rear- as he swoops in.

I wouldn't anticipate the NK entering inside the fortress all alone just to mindlessly get at Bran. If Bran was inside, the NK would use Viserion to force openings in their lines, incinerate the gates, and enter later with his troops in the van. Isn't that basically what happened when the 3ER lair was sacked back in Season 6 "The Door"?

As for the potential blast radius from dragonfire... well, as I said, I think the plan is terrible for this and other reasons. The Dragon breath weapons will have to be employed before he gets too close to Bran and his Ironborn bodyguards --surely that's what Jon is thinking.

I agree that it's not going to work, Winterfell will be lost, and I think that they'll have to make Lightbringer to take out the NK later.

Using Bran as bait with his limited mobility and no big Hodor around to haul him out when the plan goes awry is another issue. Maybe Bran will be slain but will be warged into someone or something else (like one of the dragons) before he dies so that the 3ER can still continue its existence in one form or another.

I don't see the NK going pass episode 4.

The attack on King's Landing is very likely in Episode 5, Miguel Sapochnik's other episode, and the North wont be in any shape to besiege King's Landing after Episode 3. Its gotta be the Army of the Dead and they dont work without White Walkers and the NK.

I've got a minor concern about Episode 4. Episode 2 was entirely at Winterfell and is a prologue of sorts for episode 3. Showing the protagonists preparing, reminiscing, and trying to keep their spirits high as best they can. Well, maybe Episode 4 is the same thing except it's set entirely in King's Landing and shows Cersei and the antagonists preparing and being confident about the coming attack, and smug about the destruction of Winterfell. And shows the Northern refugees arriving and Cersei treating them like dogs. 80 minutes of that sort of ****...
