Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Oh, most definitely. That bodycount is bull****. And then add in how the "big battle" was shot. And the writing had them making the most idiotic moves possible (I'm guessing the budget also did not allow for horse battles for the rest of the season).

Not really sure what you mean there.

Enough significant characters died. Edd, Beric Dondarrion, Lyanna Mormont, Theon, Jorah, Rhaegal (I think?), undead Viserion, the Night King and the rest of the White Walkers, Melisandre...for me the shock was that Brienne, Pod, Tormund and Grey Worm all lived.

I wasn't as impressed with this as I was with the Battle of the Bastards or the Drogon Attack, but this was meant to be more suspenseful I guess. I didn't expect them to kill off the Night King this early in the season, and also I felt like it should have been Jon to do it. I'll also say that the lighting was way too dark for the most part.

And what the hell happened to Ghost after he charged into battle?

I normally don't complain about this show, and instead opt to go with the flow and just enjoy things, but this was horribly anticlimactic.

Resolved the biggest threat to all of Westeros in one episode so we can enjoy three more episodes of people pissing over who gets the Irone Throne. Swell.

And it was resolved with Arya! I’m sorry but I’m gonna prepare for the sexist comments or whatever but come on please. This entire time watching and this teenage girl out of nowhere one blow to the Night King and it’s all over! ****ing please. This was so anti-climatic and held zero weight to it.

This was very underwhelming. So much BS.

Normal size Ghost dies off screen. Drogon gets wrecked like a *****. The Night King gets owned like a *****. Dany just sits in the middle of a horde and let's Drogon get swarmed. The Dothraki charge into the pitch black darkness like a bunch of dip****s. The Night King gets owned like a *****. Berics purpose was to save Arya.

That stupid 10 minute slow walk to Bran. Ffs they could have done something cool during the time they wasted on that nonsense. And it just made the Night King's end even more anti-climactic.

Now all we've got to look forward to is Cersei's BS.

At this point I’m in no hurry to watch the rest of the episodes honestly.

I think it's because they gave her Lady Stoneheart's role. In the books the Lord of Light brings Beric back so he can sacrifice himself to resurrect Cat. Then she goes and kills the Freys. But they cut LS and gave Arya her role. Which means...this is probably confirmation that Stoneheart is a major factor in defeating the Others in the books. A mother's love so to speak.

Yeah, it's weird. For various reasons, I kinda don't care how things end. Like it's just going to be the same ****, different day in Westeros.

And to think some people were saying this episodes battle was going to be more epic than any LOTR battle. Give me a damn break. Even Hobbit Battle of the Five Army’s was better.

Thank you. I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t see ****. Horribly lit and shot at points.
Yeah, I have to agree. I kept on thinking, just because HBO wants to claim longest battle caught on camera, what's the bloody difference if you can't see it? This is where LOTR crushes it. Even in the Battle of Helms Deep, it may have been dark, but you still could see what the hell is going on.

So, not happy that the Night King got taken out this early, which leaves Cersei to be the main villain? This doesn't sit well with me, at all. The show more or less starts out with the White Walkers, but then the show is going to end with effing Cersei?????? However, I still cheered like crazy when it was Arya that took him out. I don't care if it's fan service, she's my favorite and they have been showing her training for a long time and it was sweet to see her once again avenge and defend her family. Except for Bran, they have no idea how she was behind the scenes in her own way. Taking out Meryn Trant, the Lannister soldiers who had a help in the Red Wedding and the Freys.

I just felt both Jon and Dany were useless in this episode. Looks like most of Dany's Dothraki are gone. What was the point of Mel lighting up the swords when in the end, they became useless, within a matter of minutes? I really have no idea what the creators are trying to convey with the characterizations of both Dany and Jon. Neither really seemed to make a difference in the end. It was mostly the Brotherhood without Banners, Bran and Arya that turned the tides.

I'm going to have to watch this a couple more times, but I will tell you right now, this is no Battle of the Bastards or Hardhome. Many scenes were a bit anti-climatic, and you could hardly see anything. And, I just can't believe the
Night King is gone, just like that. Something has to be up in the end. Either baby Sam is going to end up being the new Night King, or Bran does something with his powers and messes something up.

The rest of Westeros wont believe what happened so the North and the Night's Watch will never get any recognition. The White Walkers will remain fairytales and scary stories in the South. :cmad:

I mean, the show is called Game of Thrones, so naturally the pissing for the throne is getting more importance.

I think it was a bit too easy, but I don't agree the WW should have been the be all end all.

Well suppose I was right about Ghost lol. If Jon even says anything I’ll be quite surprised lol.

I had a few people texting me it was too dark, fuzzy, hard to see and it kinda was. I think it was an “artistic choice”, coulda been done better.

I expected a bigger death count of known characters.

Drogon is a beast

Arya is queen

Bran is annoying

Very proud of Theon

I was thrilling but also a bit of a let down

I'd love for the
Great Other to resurrect the NK or for the death of the NK to cause some apocalypse. But I fear this is just D&D being their usual selves. The show is called Game of Thrones so they probably wanted the series to end with the mains fighting for the throne rather than fighting the NK.

Well now the question is
what was Bran doing in his warg state that entire time?

He was flying around in the ravens watching the battle. It showed him take control of them.
