I think Miguel just bit off more than he could chew in terms of the plotting and execution. He didnt know how to use all the players effectively.

The Night King disappears for stretches and doesnt do much. Jaime and Brienne are very underused and inconsequential. Dany and Jon are all but useless. The dragons are criminally underused so that they dont become deus ex machinas. When they were trying to light the trench Jon and Rhaegal were right there beside it but didnt light it all so Mel could have her big moment.

I liked the battle a lot. I think the issue was the hype up of who was going to die and the fact that this isn't the big one. That comes in episode 5. Also directed by Miguel.

So, all that set-up, everything with the White Walkers, the Night King, just to be taken care of in one episode, and shifting focus back to Cersei? Martin, please, I need you to write faster.

This is my biggest concern. If the threat of the White Walkers doesn't have a direct impact on the larger landscape of Westeros in some fashion, then it's going to feel like two separate storylines smashed together over the course of 8 seasons. I hope it isn't as simple as: "The Night King is gone, now let's take the throne... the end."

Hype created by the show forshadowing and spending time on the Azhor Ahai red herring, the Three Eyed Raven, the role of the dragons, the Long Night, Winter is coming, Valyrian steel, dragon glass... it was all used and resolved in the most mundane way possible. And the interviews done by the cast and crew just made things worse.

In hindsight I shouldnt be surprised. The runtimes were the first sign that the cast, crew, and HBO had been blowing smoke up our asses. I just didnt expect them to be blowing smoke up our asses about the entire Winter/Walker plotline.

Yeah, I have to admit... the more I think about it, the more it's an unbelievable disappointment. Like LOST, this last season could poison the whole thing. There must be more to this. I guess we'll see how it goes,.

I don't disagree that it sucks. But considering the showrunners love for Cersei, I saw it sadly coming. Only one thing bothered me here and that was who did it. If we are honest, Cersei should have died a long time ago. Assassinated by Arya.

Jon v. NK has been foreshadowed for years, he has been getting ready for this battle for like a decade... and here we are.

Damn, death of NK was underwhelming AF. Not earned at all. While Jon was dodging fireballs Benny Hill style, Arya jumped out of nowhere...

It is funny. They spent 7 seasons basically telling us this was the real battle. Drilling it into our heads the fight over the throne didn't matter. Except that is exactly what they have made it all about.

The amount of scrutiny and nitpicking with this show isnt something that surprises me. It almost always happens when something is popular and goes on for a few years.
Im just shocked most are turning a blind eye when marvel pulls the same out-of-the-blue maneuvers.

All I can say right now is that I hope The Witcher doesn't make the same mistakes. Lauren Hissrich, I hope you are ready to step your game up.

I mean David Benioff wrote Troy. Is he really that good of a writer? I always feel like he sort of lucked into this series. I mean other than this, one of his biggest writing credits is the FIRST Wolverine movie.

I guess you can argue when they went all the way off book and had no involvement at all with George RR Martin is when the show really suffered.

While drop is noticeable after s4, s6 remains my personal favorite. Going off books gave us sansa/ramsay travesty, but also hardhome. Idk, im pretty happy all things considered.
