Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

I'm stunned that there are still so many OMG BEST SHOW EVER fans, but this is the episode that might have broke them, I see complaints and usually there aren't many
I've seen a TINY handful of complaints outside of those who didn't like how dark it was. The vast majority of the fanbase clearly enjoyed this episode and even the majority of those who had issues still loved what happened plot-wise. It's really crazy to see the reaction here compared to everywhere else.

Well then we must be looking in different places because if you go into discussions threads on reddit and sort by new.....YIKES.

When did we go from 7 episodes to 8?

I could have sworn numerous of my Pods were saying 3 Winterfell, 4 King’s Landing.

I just can't believe that the greatest existential threat to that world
was popped so quickly and easily! I was sure that the Night King and the AotD would last at least one more episode, and it should have! I feel so deflated.

And honestly folks, after all the emotion spent on Avengers:Endgame... I'm totally fried.
I agree with your spoiler, seems like it went by fast, even with the intensity of the battle.

well there's your problem right there
never go on reddit discussion threads lol

Eh, they are fun. Reddit/movies ones are pretty great and informative and you can gouge people's perception of stuff. Those GoT's discussions on reddit have thousands of comments and the percentage of those who hate it is anything but tiny

Damn, death of NK was underwhelming AF. Not earned at all. While Jon was dodging fireballs Benny Hill style, Arya jumped out of nowhere...

I'm triggered.
I at least expected him to kill the undead dragon.... :(

Mel's death seemed more like self termination to me. Like she knew her mission was done and she just wanted to rest so she took her necklace off and whatever magic she was using to keep her alive she switched off. But I guess it could have been the Lord of Light letting her die. As old as she was it was probably a reward to die. She earned it.

Regardless it probably doesnt warrant too much consideration. D&D are just keeping Jon around because they want him in the fight against Cersei. I doubt theyll bother to give any sort of concrete explanation about Jon's role and the Lord of Light's motives.

I wonder what happens to Bran now?
I was wondering if Mel's magic was tied into the Night Kings, that his death meant hers?

Arya be like

Hee hee, :p

Plot armor was on full display but we been off the books for 3 seasons now and I for one love the "fan service" we have gotten since we been off the books and to those that say "it's that it for NK"

Hardhome plust the battle last year so he didn't just appeared and vanished in this episode

Wish they was more Dragon on Dragon mayhem and I got a 4k tv and and I couldn't see crap half the time I understand the NK brings winter but come on!

Just extremely frustrating. You open the battle with a cool image, sure. But it is a maneuver that makes absolutely no sense. What was emphasized in the Battle of the Bastards about being flanked by cavalry? And when the White Walkers finally took the field, that should have been a "oh ****" moment. But, nope. Nothing. Next we see them, is they are statues. I really liked the Arya scenes inside the castle, and feel that could have been expanded on.

I will hand it to them, they created a great illusion of devastation for the main characters. So many characters should be dead, but apparently they have more plot armor than I thought. Sam is the one that bugs me the most. I will admit, I yelled out when Arya came out of the shadows.

I liked it okay, but I'm pretty easy to please. I thought the battle itself made Battle of the Bastards look like a grade school argument in the cafeteria over a slice of pizza.

One thing that bothered me was Jon flying the dragon...WHY? He had only done that once and is not a skilled rider at all. It was so implausible that he would ride one into battle when he could (and should) have died. He didnt do anything but hold on and the dragon didnt need him on its back. Given his skill as a swordsman, he'd have been put to much better use on the ground

I echo the sentments about the show being too dark. This season in general has been. I hope they clean it up for the bluray release

Technically Jon did better than Dany (she was pretty bad last night).

Yeah. I guess the goal was to have him up there to kill the NK when he arrived, but I don't know why Rhaegal couldn't just do that on his own. Maybe Jon planned to jump from Rhaegal onto Viserion and stab the NK (which could have looked cool if they had like... Endgame's budget, lol), but he would have been better to just wait with Theon and Bran at the tree since they knew that's where the NK was going. I guess they wanted to keep the NK from ever getting there, but it still would have been a smarter plan.

I think him and Dany were supposed to wait for The Night King to show himself, but Dany charged into battle ahead of time when she saw the Dothraki charge fail, and then Jon followed her.

I think it's simply that if Dany and Drogon went down, someone would need to be commanding Rhaegal. At the very least to take out the NK and at worst to make sure Dany and Drogon don't become wights as well.

Was that the first time Dany's ever held a sword or really done any physical fighting at all?
