Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

I see many expected more out of the White Walkers in this season than I did. I felt entirely sure this episode would be the end of that storyline because there's so little time left in the show and it's always been more about the human world than the supernatural threat from the North.

I can see it playing a more profound part in the novel, as there's more time to develop things and Martin is a better writer, but I just didn't see it happening here.

It's a wonder Sam could run away that fast, with all that plot armor he was wearing this episode.

They must have been churning that out in that foundry, because there was a lot of it going around.

Jamie and Brienne kept getting swarmed too and then somehow still being alive.

I'll miss his voice...

For any Brooklyn 99 fans out there...

I have to see the whole season before I can properly judge this. At this stage it seems like such a weird and bone-headed narrative choice to eliminate the Night King and the White Walkers now and leave Cersei as the final boss, but it's possible the next three episodes will make it work. I'm holding out some hope that the NK isn't done completely somehow.

Well then we must be looking in different places because if you go into discussions threads on reddit and sort by new.....YIKES.

well there's your problem right there
never go on reddit discussion threads lol
^^^This.

I don't go on Reddit as it's reputation proceeds it. But Twitter is still glowing with praise for Arya (#NotToday still at the 4th highest trend right now)

then apparently Hype has the same "reputation" Reddit has

I only go on Reddit for the memes and the comments following them, which are often more hilarious than whatever they're commenting on.

Me and my boss were reading some GOT theories on Reddit the other day though.

I think it's simply that if Dany and Drogon went down, someone would need to be commanding Rhaegal. At the very least to take out the NK and at worst to make sure Dany and Drogon don't become wights as well.
But was Jon commanding him? It seemed like he was just holding on while Rhaegal did his thing. He rid him once; it seems like a leap to assume that could control him

It doesn't really look any different when Dany is riding Drogon either, apart from the times she says "dracarys". It's not like they have any sort of reins or something to steer the dragon with.

It hasn't always been more about the human world though. It's been drilled into our heads by the show that the Night King was the bigger threat... over and over and over again. We are simply judging the show based on the plot lines it set up for itself.

This was honestly a travesty. That's why I don't believe it. I believe and have faith that the writers aren't going to leave the Night King story like this. There is more to it with Bran... and yes Jon Snow is somehow tied to it. If I'm wrong, then the writers have literally betrayed 8 years of their own work. If it stays this way, this is a straight up show killer, IMO.

On the positive side, I disagree with those who say the battle was poorly shot or edited. For the most part, I was riveted the whole episode, until....

The improbable leap in all that was made long beforehand, when Dany had NO control of Drogon in Se5ep9 "A Dance with Dragons" to full control the very next time she rode him in Se6ep6 "Blood of my Blood.

Just sitting on a dragon apparently gives one telepathic command of it. It's a magical creature so I suppose we can say this is the reason but they really should have taken a minute to explain some of this **** at some point.

Well, they have explained that Dragons are actually very intelligent creatures, and that Targarians have an intimate bond with their dragons. Not a huge leap to think that a Targarean rider can steer a dragon mentally and by pulling on it's scales.

but why when we must see super crucial scenes like Bronn and 3 chicks in a brothel

omg there's still that super assassin mission Bronn is on

Watch him have a change of heart as he aims and the bolt shoots Dany #surprisefactorbyDavidandDan lol

Why would Jon assume that would be the case for him though when he has little knowledge of Targareyon lore. It just seemed like a foolish idea when we all know he is one of the best if no the best swordsman there. He has enough showins from Hardhome to the Battle of the Bastards to suggest that he stay grounded where he is most effective

And no one asked them to only make 5 episodes, I'm sorry. They can't blame it on, 'oh with this much time left, we had to start making hard decisions.' They set themselves up for that. If they didn't have enough time to come to a satisfying conclusion with the Night King... then they should have made more. It was that important.
