Keep in mind that D&D first conceived the show as an 80 hour story. Not in terms of season arcs and all that. We are in the final third of that 80 hour story which means we are already moving into what is essentially the climax and resolution section of the story. Think of it like an 80 hour movie. Most stories pick up pace in the final third of the story. So it makes sense things are happening more quickly and the pace is increasing. The pace we are seeing this season is only going to increase during those last 13 episodes. The time to "stop and smell the roses" is passed.

That makes it even odder that we are getting 73 hours. Less than that really.

The pace usually increases significantly but the last 1/3 is still 1/3 of the movie/book/show. And with how complex this thing is we should need 2 full seasons (the equivalent of which we might get anyway in screen time) to cover all the individual resolutions.

We aren't talking about the whole last third. We are in that but what's left isn't a whole third. The past three seasons have averaged 55 minutes per episode. If they stick with that then we have about 16 hours left. Of a 66 hour total story. So what's left is actually closer to around quarter of the story. Think about how much happens and how quickly it happens the last quarter of a movie.

16 hours is enough time to wrap up this story.

And now that I think about it, I doubt there will be 70+ minute episodes in Season 7 and 8. The whole reason they are doing shorter seasons is because the scope and scale of the show has gotten so big that they don't have time and resources to produce 10 episodes of this scale per season. If they do 7 episodes that equal the length and scale of 10 episodes that isn't going to help them and it would defeat the purpose of having less episodes. They'd be stuck in the same boat they are in now.

That's a shame if lack of resources has an impact (like some mentioned about the direwolves not getting much to do due to budget). It feels like this show is 200 times more complex than most other TV shows and has much more to resolve than for eg a Smallville. It's like the RotK of TV shows, except with much more to deal with! Anyway they've done well so far and this season has been great so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Hey. Currently watching this show again. Picking up where I left off with season 4. I was surprised Sansa was kissed by Peter. And that he shoved lysa down the hole. Lol.

I heard Sam was his sister too

Oh no. Don't start saying that. The last thing we need is a theory about ANOTHER girl being Jon's sister.

Heh that Rhaegar Targaryen fellow got around lol. (yes I know he was dead at least ten years before this girl could have been sired)

Hey, we never actually SAW him die. For all we know, he made a deal with Robert at the Trident that Robert could go around saying he killed him while he secretly went around f***ing every girl in the north.

Um sorry but do you guys not know that Rhaegar is the present day Night King? It's a common book fact so not a spoiler, what we saw with the children was just the creation of the first night king... this one is the 13th.

I was pondering Jorah's Quest for a cure to greyscale disease a little more, and while I think the Citadel at Oldetown might have some answers, maybe even the same maesters who worked on little Shireen, the fact is that he's in Essos right now so I think maybe his best shot is to head back to Qarth and look up old Quaithe! Remember this chick from Season 2:

Too bad he didn't have those tattoos before he sailed through Valyria himself! But she is a very mysterious character and I wouldn't mind seeing her again. What's under her mask? Greyscale?

Yeah, it seemed as though she was being built up to be a major character, then just disappeared.

Don't you guys get it? She is Daario! She is the Mother of the Harpies!

What you guys think of this? Pretty mind-****

HBO confirmed that the titles for the last two episodes match the rumored German leak.

So "Battle of the Bastards" and "The Winds of Winter" it is! No official synopses yet.

Titles got me excited. Hopefully Winds of Winter signifies the official start of the Stark's rise back to power!
