Gears of War 3

I have the Gears triple pack and I don't see any indication that you do get into the beta which is unfortunate.

ummm did someone say that it did? I have the triple pack, I merely bought it because I haven't owned the other two games in some time and it was a good price...and it has all the maps and junk

Someone was asking if it did. I bought it just because I always jsut played the games at my friends house and 30 bucks for both games and all the maps. That is a great deal.

I just thought I remembered reading somewhere when the triple pack was first announced that you could get access to the beta when you bought it. I must've been mistaken.

While I haven't heard anything about that, logic tells me that yes you would be able to. But you might be getting Gears of War 3 confused with another game as I think deals like this only come out after the third game has been out for a few months.
Got nothing to do with logic mate :woot: Epic have already said exactly how to get into the beta (buying Bulletstorm Epic Edition or pre-ordering Gears 3) and there is no suggestion that there is any other way at the moment.

How so? There was never any indication that it would be.
Because someone paying for just Gears of War 3 shouldn't get the beta, over somebody paying for Gears 1, 2, and 3. Epic can do whatever they like, but it's really illogical to give a present(beta) to someone that's buying less.

The triple pack doesn't include Gears 3, just Gear 1, 2, the Road to Ruin deleted chapter & all the downloadable maps from both games.. & is cheaper than pre-ordering Gears 3. You know Gears 1 & 2 are very old games & so very cheap to buy brand new anyway, while Gears 3 is going to be a full price retail? I don't mean to spell out the obvious but not sure which bit you're not getting.

Aside from that, access to a beta isn't to do with who spent the most money on a franchise.. just who can follow the clear instructions given on how to access said beta.

:yay:

Thats right. Besides, even if there is a Gears 1,2 and 3 planned, they never release that stuff until a month or so after the solo release, in the hope that collectors and what not will pick it up as well. Everyone does that with collection packs.

Uh........

Clearly implying that I thought he was talking about a trilogy pack(which I was confused about seeing as how they don't come about during the release of the third one.) Which I thought was very clear, but I guess not. We were talking about two different things.

And as far as the beta being given only to those that follow instructions, I am equally confused as to what you're talking about. Because following the instructions isn't free, it also includes paying Epic money for their game. And you're right about beta's not going to the highest bidder, but common sense says if it goes to someone paying for just one of the games, it should go to someone paying for all 3 games. :yay:

I don’t really understand why there’s a problem here. One or two people are confused as to methods for beta access & a couple of people have given the correct info on how to get in. Surely that should be the end of that discussion.

Who said following the instructions to get into the beta was going to be free... it quite often isn’t.

Even if there was a trilogy pack including Gears 3 which defied logic & didn’t grant beta access, that is still the right of the game studio. Beta access always involves jumping through a particular hoop eg buying Crackdown for Halo access. It doesn’t matter if you spent £5k on Halo gear you still don’t get or deserve beta access until you follow that instruction for getting into that beta.

Just saw the edit.

Looks like we just got wires crossed on what the trilogy pack involves. Yeah, I agree (while it is the right of the game studio) of course it wouldn't make sense to not have beta access for buying an identical product plus additional content & luckily that is not the case here.

I probably wasn't paying attention, because as far as I know a trilogy pack has never come out before the third game in the series and I would normally ask him what he was talking about. But it's all good.

I'm so glad they're fixing my biggest problem with the series, that few of the past gametypes had "unlimited" lives. I've always wanted a straight out team deathmatch & they're finally giving it to me! :D

How long have you known this? I haven't been keeping up with this game that much, so is this new or old news?

I really loved the limited lives/round based style of multiplayer in Gears. It's a shame their giving in on that to appease the Call of Duty crowd.

Their team deathmatch is a bit different though, each team gets 20 lives and the team shares those lives so you better work together or else pretty soon it'll be like one guy against a whole team.

That's cool, kinda like Battlefield.

I always thought Halo Reach's invasion mode could have benefited from that as well, instead of having a stupid 3 minute limit for rounds. Live limitations forces people to fight as a team, which no one bloody does in COD or Halo.

But it's all good.

Was announced quite a while back. The new gamemodes are Team Deathmatch, Capture the Leader (to replace & kind of combine Guardian & Submission) & King of the Hill (with new rules to replace Annex & the old version of KOTH). Plus Beast Mode as a 2nd coop mode.

Yeah, the limited lives thing is part of what makes Gears Gears. That will always stay in the core gamemodes Execution & Warzone (also staying for Wingman) so they're not really giving in too much. They've got to cater to the masses in some way to maximise sales though & I can understand that. Also Team Deathmatch runs on limited lives & when these are used up the game reverts to Warzone rules so you can have a 5 Vs 5 (or 1 Vs 5!) with no more respawns.

Question: I preordered this online from Gamestop with the intention of instore pick up on midnight.

Where do I get my beta code? Do they email it to me when the beta date gets closer?

Buy Bulletstorm instead. Totally worth it, gears fans will love it.
