Geeky Stuff You Just Can't Get Into

I can't seem to get into modern anime. I can watch a few of the older ones, but not too much.

Star Wars

Star Trek

Magic Cards

Dressing up at conventions in costumes

World of Warcraft

Anything "Sci-Fi"

RolePlaying

Battlestar Galactica

Sorry, my nerdiness only goes so far. One of my friends recently got into the show and was trying to get me to watch it. I kind of wanted to slap him. :oldrazz:

Ok I will bite!

Harry potter
Game of thrones
Lord of the rings
Titantic.
Maybe not geek but I think it is

American Idol
The Voice and other singing or dance off %^#$ show
Zombies
Sparkling vampires
World or warcraft. Angry birds or any other %^&* video game!( haha the only time I played that ^&* was in an arcade and even then it was to pick up chicks! Hahaha so do I have to give back my geek id card now??

Ugh... I hate American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Idiots, Dancing with the Stars and all of those bullsh** shows. I'm not sure if they're a geek thing or not, but they are annoying as hell.

Star Wars expanded universe - everything I know about Star Wars I know from watching Episode I - VI, anything after that I could never really get into.

Doctor Who - the thing about Doctor Who, to me, is that it's been around for decades now and there's so much to know that even if I wanted get into it I wouldn't even know where to start.

To be fair you don't need to of watched 50 years of Doctor Who to get into it. With each new Doctor its like a new series. In the modern Doctor Who which started in 2005 they only reference stuff from the old series every now and again.

These days I only watch the audition stages of American Idol, X-Factor and Britain's got talent(I'll only watch the talent show if Cowell's on it though), obviously watching for all the nutters mainly, the belly laughs you can get out of some of those nutters are like drugs. I also like it when they unearth a genuine talent though, and there is a ripple of surprise in the audience.

I used to watch the competition stage of the X-Factor(the UK equivalent of American Idol), when I used to sit in on a Saturday night having a drink/smoke and discussed the singers on a forum, but sober and without the interactive social element?, naw, haha, I'd rather watch a movie or go on the forums if I'm in on a Saturday night.

I've been saying this over and over in this thread. Trust me, they aren't going to listen.:csad:

Whedon stuff
Harry Potter
Hunger Games

The Classics :( I love books. Mum's a brilliant English teacher. But I just can't seem to do it.

-Star Wars
-Star Trek
-Doctor Who

I enjoy some of the movies, but just can't get into the huge hype/fandom for the first two. Doctor Who mainly because i don't even know where the heck should i start trying to get into that franchise.

Also, forum role playing. I haven't even checked how that works, so can't say i'll never get into that. Just not that interested.

Then there's of course a lot of TV-series (and movies, but those are more rare) i just can't get into, like many sitcoms(for example Big Bang Theory).

Star Trek.
Star Wars
Battle Star Gallactica.
Lord of the Rings

Firefly.
Buffy.
role playing.
anime.
gaming.
dressing up at comic con.
wearing "nerd clothes"
statuette/toy collecting

Just gimmie my comics and movies. :yay:

To quote Norman Osborn in Spider-Man, "Thank God for you!" :woot:
Anime I agree with, but I love Yu-Gi-Oh! (the dubbed series, the one ACTUALLY with Yugi, none of the follow ons), but apart from that, I definitely agree.

Star Trek, could never get into it.
Same goes for Battlestar gallactica
If/when I say Star Wars is crap, some people act like you've said something blasphemous, so I tend not to talk about that lol.
Same goes for Lord of the Rings, I was so BORED watching it. It has nothing to do with the length of the film, it was just bleh.
Then again, I've ALWAYS preferred The Chronicles of Narnia ever since reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe as a kid. Just seems more fascinating to me.

Never seen Firefly myself, but it's meant to be good.
Buffy, I was a HUGE fan of back in the day, but it's been about 10 years since I last saw an episode.

Cosplayers, I respect them, it shows devotion, but I wouldn't do it myself.

I wear superhero shirts, so I guess that's the only one I majorly disagree with LOL!
Oh, and the toy collecting, as I collect Toy Story toys. Apart from that, I don't collect toys related to superheroes lol.

Gaming is another one. The last game I really played that I loved was FIFA 2002, i don't play games anymore lol.
But when people queue up at midnight for games, I think that's crazy! How about you pre-order? lol

Dr. Who. I used to watch the originals as a kid, when I used to come home from gymnastics club.
I watched half of the reboot series with Chris Eccleston, but then never again.
Watched I think a couple of specials with David tennant when nothing was on TV, but I don't see the allure or the appeal of "The Doc"

The Big Bang Theory - seriously, THIS is considered comedy? it's not even funny! And I don't know any "nerds" who act like that!
My closest guy mates do nerdy things, such as gaming, & liking, reading & watching comic related things, plus many more, but NO WAY do they act like that, or tell those types of jokes! Some of them do act like social recluses though lol

Sorry people lol

Speaking of gaming, I have friends who have graduated from Uni, and all they do is play games! They don't even look for jobs. It's embarassing! Even when you tell them in the nice way to do something with their lives, they just don't listen. Stay at home living with their parents, playing games lol.

And there's nothing wrong with living with your parents...unless you're in your 30s to 40s (well, that IS the stigma) LOL

I tried watching a few old episodes when I was a kid. I tried to get into it when Christopher Eccleston was cast. I tried when everyone was raving about David Tennant. I tried to get into Torchwood when I found out James Marsters was in it.

Believe me, I wish I did get it. Over in England it's even more of a big deal if your a geek and you don't like Doctor Who.

But when I watch it, all I see is bad BAD acting, storytelling styles similar to campy kids tv shows like 'my parents are aliens' and ridiculous 'effects'
.

Oh my gosh, we think EXACTLY the same on this! LOL
I agree 100% with everything you've said here, especially the part about being a geek who doesn't like Dr. Who, I've been asked that question a numberof times lol.
The highlighted parts stand out the most though

Maybe one day it'll just click and we'll just suddenly love it! :hehe:

Also, as big of a superhero geek as I am, I've never seen the appeal of Wolverine..

AMEN! I like Wolverine, same with Batman; but the hype them 2 get especially, it's ridiculous. In my opinion, they're the 2 most over-rated characters in comics; especially when people go on about them.

"Wolverine is such a hard-ass, noone can stop him, ever"
My favourite X-Men were Colossus & Cyclops, they hardly got any love in the films.

"Batman vs X in a fight, who would win"

And they're like Batman will always find a way to win...WITH PREP TIME!
We're not talking prep time, we're talking in a straight up fight, when you're not ready. Plus his utility belt, he has every gadget for the right event, in such a tiny belt.

E.g. BTAS, considering how thin the belt is, it SOMEHOW manages to CONTAIN a full sized grappling gun? No. lol
Like I said, I like Batman, I just don't get the hype.

9.27% - geekish tendencies

Too much Sci-Fi & role playing stuff, which I don't like.
Plus I got a degree in Sport Science...so still a science lol.
The rest of that stuff seems like stuff nobody NEEDS to know LOL

All that stuff is stereotypical geek.
I'm a cool geek LOL

. The big one people can't get over is I hate the Nolan Batman movies. I didn't like Begins but people were like "you'll love TDK!!" and guess what? I hated it. It's a horrible mess of a film. And I have no intention on seeing TDKR. Kinda sucks since I am a Batman fan.

I don't drink, but I would buy you a beer LOL
I was bored watching Batman Begins on first viewing, same as The Dark Knight.
Especially after all the hype they got, that was probably the main reason.
They have better re-watch value though, in my opinion.

But yeah, even though I enjoy TDK, it is STILL a mess of a film.
So many plot holes, and stupid moments, but people seem to side-step them because it's Batman.

And the fans that defend it, don't get me started on them.
Ask them what it's about, and they go on about "underlying subtext of anarchy & chaos", and all these long paragraphs. They look for deeper meaning that isn't there lol

Also the whole reality universe. I can understand what Nolan was doing, but I like Batman to have some fantasy! He's a comic book character, he doesn't need to be made uber real!

rant over.

I seem to have posted quite a bit in this thread today lol.
I apologise
